Hi djbravo, Thanks for the comment. In this article, I tried to describe how encoders work. They can provide a control system with the position of a specific object. Encoders can be of three types: incremental, absolute, and linear. I prefer absolute ones because they can report the position of a machine even after a sudden shutdown or power outage.

I myself am quite interested in mechanical work and when a machine suddenly stops, we have to check everything.

Thanks for stopping by. Encoders can be incremental or absolute. An absolute encoder is a device that can report position even after a power outage. I've used both types of encoders in my past machine projects. !PIMP
