In this post, I talk about wheels and gears, which are very important systems in the field of mechanics. For now, it seems that the oldest mechanical wheel (not for transportation) discovered is the potter's wheel found in Mesopotamia in 3500 BC.
As for gears, it seems that bronze gears dating back to 400 BC have been found. This find is the Antikythera Mechanism, discovered in Greece. Wheels and gears are part of the early history of mechanics.
