People don't want to pay for green politics

Politicians have been proposing ambitious/draconian green policies (take your pick) based on vague opinion polling that shows support for the green agenda. Questions like the following which references 2050 (which is so far in the future, the young can't imagine it and the middle aged and old will be dead by then):

However, when you ask them about paying for it, you get this:

55% against! With the Scots being most hostile.

Most people are having a hard time with inflation and rents/mortgages.

Having elites who generate more CO2 in a year jetting around than most people do in a lifetime, dictating to them, fills them with rage.

In the Netherlands, Farmer-citizen movement (BBB) which was set up in 2019, took 15 Senate seats in 2023 forming a blocking minority. According to the BBC

The BBB aims to fight government plans to slash nitrogen emissions harmful to biodiversity by dramatically reducing livestock numbers and buying out thousands of farms.

That kind of politics is going to sweep the western world, and smart political parties will pivot to address voter wrath before it clobbers them.
