The dock of the bay

The dock of the bay

Do you ever have a song come into your head and it just stays there, and often for no apparent reason

this morning, I did my usual winter routine of getting some steps in in our sunroom, followed up with some riding on my new exercycle, as I was about 4KM into my ride for no apparent reason, the song Sitting on the dock of the bay came into my head, and it stuck there as I came upstairs to prepare this post.

NOw I do believe the title is just onthe dock of the bay but I always think of it as having sitting in front of the title

Otis Redding began writing the song in August 1967 while staying on a rented houseboat in Sausalito, California, following his historic performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. it awas co-written with guitarist Steve Cropper, the song was recorded in November and December 1967 at Stax Studios in Memphis. Redding tragically died in a plane crash on December 10, 1967, just three days after finishing the recording.
The lyrics reflect a sense of aimlessness and loneliness, following a man who left Georgia for the San Francisco Bay only to find that "nothing's gonna change".
The song is famous for its whistling solo at the end and the sound of crashing waves and seagulls, which were added by Cropper during post-production.

it was the first posthumous single to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
in 67 I was only 7, so I wonder if I heard it first in 68 when it realeased and thats where the memory of it came into my head, or its just such a well knon and played song I have heardit probably hundreds of time so the sone coming into my head could come from anywhere i guess

So this led me to the subjects for this post, mostly docks of some sort

THis is one of the piers for commercial fishing boats on Pope's Island

How are you, my dear friend @tattoodjay?

It's great to know you're exercising at home; it's very healthy. Music is an excellent companion for these activities.

Great shots! What a beautiful place to start the day.

That song is a good one to relax to as well. Glad you feeling better and that the weather is improving so you can get back out again. It is improving here as well.

Otis Redding had some amazing songs. If you have never heard his version of Hard to Handle, it's amazing, though the Black Crowes absolutely slayed it. I have random songs pop in my head all the time!
