Hello, music community! Once again, I join the initiative of @ablaze to celebrate another #ThreeTuneTuesday. Today I want to share with you the roots of one of my greatest musical passions. While many know me as a versatile musician, few know that my obsession with the trombone—that instrument that vibrates in the chest—was born thanks to two fundamental pillars: the orchestra of Willie Colón and, of course, La Dimensión Latina.

I have mentioned before how making a dream come true involved my direct relationship with this instrument. La Dimensión Latina was the "School" that showed me that the trombone wasn't just an accompaniment; it was the soul of the party and the punch of the street. This Venezuelan orchestra didn't just play salsa; they created a sound identity that broke barriers. Their arrangements, dominated by the strength of the brass, were the spark that lit my fire for this genre. Today, I bring you three tracks that represent different facets of their legendary trajectory.

¡Hola, comunidad musical! Una vez más me uno a la iniciativa de @ablaze para celebrar otro #ThreeTuneTuesday. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes las raíces de una de mis mayores pasiones musicales. Aunque muchos me conocen como un músico versátil, pocos saben que mi obsesión por el trombón —ese instrumento que vibra en el pecho— nació gracias a dos pilares fundamentales: la orquesta de Willie Colón y, por supuesto, La Dimensión Latina.

Ya he mencionado antes cómo hacer un sueño realidad implicó mi relación directa con este instrumento. La Dimensión Latina fue la "Escuela" que me mostró que el trombón no era solo un acompañamiento; era el alma de la fiesta y el golpe de la calle. Esta orquesta venezolana no solo tocaba salsa; crearon una identidad sonora que rompió barreras. Sus arreglos, dominados por la fuerza de los metales, fueron la chispa que encendió mi fuego por este género. Hoy les traigo tres temas que representan distintas facetas de su legendaria trayectoria.

1. Mata Siguaraya

This is a classic originally by the great Benny Moré, but the version by La Dimensión Latina is simply explosive. Beyond the musical quality and Oscar D'León's interpretation, what stayed engraved in my memory—and that of anyone who saw them live or on television—was the choreography. The energy they displayed on stage was surprising; they weren't just musicians sitting down, they were a spectacle of movement that perfectly complemented the rhythmic force of the song.

The trombones in this track have a unique brightness. It is a song that demands respect for the Afro-Cuban tradition but is played with that "Caracas flavor" that made the orchestra world-famous. Every time I hear those initial notes, I can't help but think about the discipline required to play at that level while performing such energetic dance routines.

Este es un clásico originalmente del gran Benny Moré, pero la versión de La Dimensión Latina es simplemente explosiva. Más allá de la calidad musical y la interpretación de Oscar D'León, lo que quedó grabado en mi memoria —y en la de cualquiera que los viera en vivo o en televisión— era la coreografía. La energía que desplegaban en el escenario era sorprendente; no eran solo músicos sentados, eran un espectáculo de movimiento que complementaba perfectamente la fuerza rítmica del tema.

Los trombones en este tema tienen un brillo único. Es una canción que exige respeto por la tradición afrocubana pero ejecutada con ese "sabor caraqueño" que hizo a la orquesta mundialmente famosa. Cada vez que escucho esas notas iniciales, no puedo evitar pensar en la disciplina necesaria para tocar a ese nivel mientras se realizaban rutinas de baile tan enérgicas.

2. Quisqueya

Not everything in the history of La Dimensión Latina was fast-paced dancing. One of the greatest achievements of this orchestra was its ability to conquer the public through boleros. "Quisqueya" is a fundamental piece to understand the versatility of the group. With this type of song, they showed that they could be as sentimental and elegant as they were festive.

In these boleros, the trombones take on a different role, much more melodic and nostalgic, serving as a soft carpet for the voices. This balance between "salsa brava" and romanticism allowed the orchestra to enter every home in Venezuela and the Caribbean, becoming the soundtrack for both parties and heartbreaks. It's a song that shows the musical maturity they achieved in their prime.

No todo en la historia de La Dimensión Latina era baile frenético. Uno de los mayores aciertos de esta orquesta fue su capacidad para conquistar al público a través de los boleros. "Quisqueya" es una pieza fundamental para entender la versatilidad de la agrupación. Con este tipo de temas, demostraron que podían ser tan sentimentales y elegantes como festivos.

En estos boleros, los trombones adquieren un rol distinto, mucho más melódico y nostálgico, sirviendo como una alfombra suave para las voces. Ese equilibrio entre la "salsa brava" y el romanticismo permitió que la orquesta entrara en todos los hogares de Venezuela y el Caribe, convirtiéndose en la banda sonora tanto de las fiestas como de los despechos. Es un tema que demuestra la madurez musical que alcanzaron en su mejor momento.

3. Llorarás

We couldn't talk about La Dimensión Latina without including their greatest success and, arguably, the most iconic anthem of Venezuelan salsa: "Llorarás." This song is a phenomenon that transcends generations. From the very first second, the trombone intro is a call to the dance floor that no one can resist. It is the perfect example of the "Dimensión sound": simple but powerful, direct to the heart and the feet.

This song represents the peak of the creative union between the orchestra members. Although Oscar D'León wrote it as a filler for an album, it ended up becoming the legend that consolidated them internationally. For me, as a trombone lover, this song is a constant reference. It reminds me that sometimes the most effective thing in music is a good "tumbao" and a horn section that plays with soul.

No podríamos hablar de La Dimensión Latina sin incluir su mayor éxito y, posiblemente, el himno más icónico de la salsa venezolana: "Llorarás". Esta canción es un fenómeno que trasciende generaciones. Desde el primer segundo, el intro de los trombones es un llamado a la pista de baile al que nadie puede resistirse. Es el ejemplo perfecto del "sonido Dimensión": sencillo pero contundente, directo al corazón y a los pies.

Este tema representa la cima de la unión creativa de los integrantes de la orquesta. Aunque Oscar D'León la escribió casi como un relleno para un disco, terminó siendo la leyenda que los consolidó internacionalmente. Para mí, como amante del trombón, este tema es una referencia constante. Me recuerda que a veces lo más efectivo en la música es un buen tumbao y una sección de metales que sople con el alma.
