TTT - Reunification Day - NDW
Hello Hive Music Lovers!,
Welcome to another #threetunetuesday created originally by @ablaze.
I like to share some music that I am listening to each week and today is German Reunification Day and to celebrate this, I have chosen 3 tunes from the great Neue Deutsche Welle era to share today.
But first, for those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday.... to quote @ablaze :
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize.
Most German cities have their own mascots and for Berlin it is the bear. When people think of German reunification, they usually think about Berlin because it was an actual city divided too.
One of the most often visited places in Berlin is the famous Checkpoint Charlie. It is at the end of the very fancy Friedrichstraße shopping street. I am not sure now, but driving to and finding some free parking to go there, used to be relatively easy. Therefore I drove there quite often when running my errands.
Luckily today, the site is just a tourist attraction and not used to separate people.

Probably one of the biggest artists to come out at the height of the Neue Deutsche Welle era was Falco. He had quite a string of hits that were very popular.
I remember liking his songs before evening knowing they were even something called NDW. If I had to squeeze to my favorites, it would be between Out of the Dark and Rock Me Amadeus.
Falco - Rock Me Amadeus
Of course Berlin was reunified, but half of a country was also being reunifed with the other half. One such place is Leipzig here that I visited in 2006. It was not the best weather that weekend, but we still had a good time.
I have been back many times, but mostly just passing through on the train.

Another big song from the 80s and huge NDW hit was by Peter Schilling. I guess it is also popular for all those who like rockets and space. I think the German version is the better version Völlig losgelöst.
Most Nasa productions are pretty lame, so it was cool that Peter stepped in here and made a cool song about astronauts coming home.

Another major city reunited from the east is Dresden. Since it was reunified, there has been lots of money spent to try to restore many of the archtecturial wonders in the city.
It is very popular for cultural events there but you are also close to the nature and there are many daytrips you can make. I have done some great hiking near Dresden.

The final tune for today is from the very famous Kraftwerk and their catchy Das Model tune. When searching through the NDW archives, there are many great tunes to discover and listen to again.
Everyone is waiting for the next new NDW, it would be good to have some new tunes as good as those from Falco and co. again.

I don't think I have ever heard any other song by Falco besides Rock Me Amadeus. I also think that Major Tom song was a one hit wonder over here in the states, but I could be wrong. I didn't realize this was all a specific style of music either. Very interesting!
I think Rock Me Amadeus was probably his biggest hit, but maybe you also know Der Kommissar? There are quite a few good NDW tunes that were also popular abroad. You are probably right about Major Tom.
Oh, you are right. I have heard Der Kommissar, but I thought that was by a group called After the Fire or something like that.

You're welcome! You did a great music selection. 🤗
I was only in Berlin the week before last. Did Checkpoint Charlie in 2017. This time it was for the marathon.
I hope you had a good time and good weather. It is a great place to run I think as it is very flat and lots of great sights too.
I am listening to these three tunes for the first time. And I really liked that third one kraftwerk-the model
That is a good fun song. Glad you liked the tunes.
O.O i assume these songs happened when im not even born yet :P. anyways the one i like dthe most was the first one the rock me one O.O. the video was kinda funny too with his poofy hai
Yes, all before you were born. Sorry. Good choice though!
no need to be sorry :P thats life in 30-50 years time those kids will be like what were we listening to O.O
you will have it all on Hive documented! lol
I didn't know any of these songs. They were all fun!
Rock Me Amadeus was especially interesting because I knew that melody! The Simpsons stole it for their Planet of the Apes # Dr Zaius song.
I remember this episode, nice one! haha 😀
I don't know any of them but listening to them was cool
The songs are lovely
Thanks for checking them out, I am glad that you liked them.
Great songs, but Peter Schilling takes the prize today! Those are some that I haven't heard in years! Thanks!
I do love that Peter Schilling song, it reminds me of the Bowie space one he did some time ago.
Good old Major Tom... Great song!
Do you know Westbam, O.F.F. ?..
I forever grateful to Deutche Welle for hosting the radioprogram 'Muzprosvet' -- it was run by Russian journalist Andrei Gorokhow. In the early 2000-es we became a huge fans of this radio show. (I still consider it to be one of the best shows in this field... and keep all recorded issues of the show I could find on the internet.)
ps. Believe me or not, but I never watched any videos by Kraftwerk. 'Das Model' is amazing,-- it contains original historical footage - valuable stuff, exactly what I like.
!DHEDGE & !BEER
Westbam from the Loveparade song? I don't know OFF but will have a search of them.
Kraftwerk have some great hits, I love this one. I think also Nina was a big artist from the NDW time.
I don't read or check much on Deutsche Wella these days, but they have had some interesting content over the years, I can believe that.
Yes, that one.
OFF means 'organization for fun' - this is their most well known track:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrica_Salsa
(That is the music that is being associated for me with Germany and 80-es...; and 'Can' for 70-es)
Yeah I am familiar with westbam but don't remember OFF so well, but seems part of the 80s synth wave and will give it a listen. Looks quite good so far

by the way thank you for the token!
Congrats for winning. Good choice of song, I do like this one too.
Great tunes! My fav is Peter Schilling - Völlig losgelöst. Although it is the first time I have listened to the German version.
Thanks. It is a great tune, the German one is a nice version I think. :)
Damn I was there with Mrs T and my parents in the summer of 2005!
Falco was huge with Rock Me Amadeus and I think I had in a ttt once a long time ago.
But for me well Kraftwerk are awesome so The Model wins this week.
haha possibly we crossed paths that summer Ed. I moved there in the summer that year. Great choice with the Model. A cult tune for sure. I remember you had Falco a while back, he is a legend I think.
Well always got that old feel in all the music you choose, its amazing how it takes me back through time itself
Thanks for checking them out.
