Oh yes, I do give a turn signal, and most drivers in the country do the same. I get annoyed if someone ahead of me suddenly turns left or right without any warning, or when another car coming from the opposite lane suddenly crosses in front without giving a signal. The blinkers are there for safety reasons :)

Exactly! That's why it's so annoying when some people don't use them!

I try to turn on signals always. Even if road in front of me clear and there isn't any car. As it said it's better to prevent, especially considering that besides car drivers on the roads we have cyclists.

After some time, it turned into a habit and routine... I don't even think about it, and my hand is doing the move automatically... That's why I can't understand people who don't use them...

Heh when I see young girl or let's say better driver who tries Suddenly speak via strictly smartphone without handsfree, and moves emotionally his hands I understand why drover haven't time to turn on lights.
But it's a little bit different topic for discussion because it's about safety for all trafic participants not only drivers and such fings should be prohibited and avoided anyway I think.

Yeah, mobile phones and driving are another story... I always try to pay attention to what's driver is doing when I'm passing it... When I see a mobile phone in a driver's hand, I try to pass ASAP...

Sometimes people don't use it. It's annoying when you are walking, wait the car pass to cross and it enter the road. If he just used the turn signal I wouldn't need to wait :/

The same happens when I wait to enter the roundabout... waiting to realize that the car turns without giving a signal... Unbelievable!

i don't drive, actually i cannot drive

In mumbai, two wheelers hardly wait for the signal to go green, just drive through.
what's car turn signal? :-)
But a very Few do follow, but majority are in hurry to reach somewhere.

In Uk though, everyone follows the rules, don't want to be caught by big brother to get fine and negative points on licence. Few exceptions still exists :-)

Hehehehe... When I see traffic in India, I have no idea how it's even possible to drive there... lol.. I would stress every second on the road... driving, or walking... lol

Not many people use their turn signals here because there aren't many cars, but in the city, I see every car using their turn signals, and it seems like it's mandatory. Otherwise, the car behind you might not slow down and bump you.

Well, yeah... people SHOULD use them, but I have no idea why it's so hard to use them here in Spain... I didn't see anything similar in any other country... 🙄

I always use it, and it's mandatory, so it's for security reasons so you don't get any surprises.

I'm using it too! It's common sense... But many others here don't... which is annoying and dangerous to all traffic participants...

Not using a turn signal is a sickness! I make sure to use my turn signal. Communication keeps other drivers keep keeps them from hitting my vehicle, which keeps my insurance from going up.

Inflation is crazy enough, I don’t need my insurance going up any more. I’m a turn signal power user!

Oh. man.. don't get me with inflation and insurance... lol... Every year, I get a bill that is at least 3-5% bigger than the previous one! Crooks!

I used it a lot when I am on my scooter or when I drive car. at least I can give a heads up for people behind me,, or infront of me in case I might need to cut its passage.
Although I still can see sometime people are just to lazy to use it here in my country. !LOLZ !PIZZA

I don't know if that should console me, as I'm not the only one to see that around... 😃

There are two reaons to use it:

  1. If you are driving you expect that other cars use turn signal so you can decide what to do. Example, In a roundabout (circle way),changing lane or intersection , the turn signal shows the driver intentions there, so you can proceed or not. If someone do not use it you will need to wait because you don't know whatafuck the driver is going to do. So you should do the same, use turn signals to express your intention. It can create an accident in a road, when someone change lanes without using it. Imagine that I am behind a car in the right lane, I use my turn signal to the left to trespass the car, and in that moment the guy go the left lane without any warning...
  2. It is illegal to not use it in here. Failure to use a signal can result in fines and demerit points. If there is a cop nearby, he will surely stop you.

All that is true, in theory... Unfortunately, there are many people who don't use the blinker here in Spain... I suppose that happens because of the lack of the number 2) that you said... I never heard that anyone got fined for not using the car turn signal... Maybe if there were more fines, people would use them more often...

Force of habit. I will automatically use the signals every single time. Not to mention my country is generally pretty strict on rules and regulations.

It's important to signal to others what our intentions are in traffic... It helps everyone!

I use it practically all the time, I think it's super important to use it so as not to cause problems for others and for ourselves. Sometimes I forget, but I do everything I can to wear it.

Yeah, it happens to me to forget sometimes... But that's usually when there is nobody around, and it's a small turn, or such... 99.9% of the time, I use them!

You have to be responsible, because unfortunately if something happens and you haven't signaled it, it's much worse, so that's the best thing. Cheers.

I'm retired from driving because I prefer to let Uber do the work. Now that you have made me think about it, one of my many reasons is to avoid idiots that don't indicate.

But I can't avoid it completely. Because as a pedestrian, I'm even more at risk from these fools. Trying to cross a road near a busy junction is a nightmare when you don't know which way the vehicles will turn. And if you make the wrong assumptions, you soon realise that the creeps who can't find the indicator switch definitely know where the horn is!

On the other hand, most of my grumpiness is reserved for fellow pedestrians. Not that we are fitted with pedestrian indicators. But if we were, the walking equivalent of a bad driver would refuse to use them. Walking on busy streets, people stop or swerve without warning. Never bothered to look if anyone is in the way.

Anyway, this is turning into a real grumpy rant. So I think I need a holiday. Like everyone else here is doing! 😃

Hehehehe... I take responsibility for "activating" the rant-mode in people... hehehehe... I switch to grumpy mode in a second when I see people not using their turn signal! 😂 Which is equally dangerous for all traffic participants, drivers, and pedestrians!

I always use my indicators. They're there to protect us! And I've also noticed that the more expensive the car, the less people use their indicators. 😆

Hehehehe... There was a joke in Spain regarding the turn signal... It was something like an advertisement selling a 10-year-old car, explaining things about it, and in the end, it said:
"Intermitentes a estrenar!" 😂

When I was 17 I started taking driving lessons and also practised in my father's car, but then I decided to go hitchhiking around Europe and stopped paying for driving lessons to save up for that. I never took the test, but I certainly used the indicator every time when I was learning to drive.

Here in Hiroshima, indicator use is a bit erratic. Most people use them most of the time, but quite a large percentage don't bother.

Yes, in general... if there are other cars around. Sometimes no if it's obvious that I'm taking a turn, i.e. in a turning lane with a bunch of other cars that are all turning at a light because that's what the lane is for.

How about other participants? Are others using blinkers regularly, or do some people not bother?

0

I tend to use it all the time, but sometimes I don't use it when I am in the lane that is turning left or right only. I think that if the decision isn't determined, you should use it. However, it doesn't hurt to turn it on even if you are in the lane with that direction.

You said it well! It doesn't hurt to use them even when it's obvious where we want to turn... I can't understand people who don't use blinkers at all!

I always do, in some parts of the US they will pull you over if you don't. Plus it's a common courtesy and safety issue in my opinion.

I would like to see police pulling over people who don't use blinkers! Tbh, I never saw any case of fining people who don't use them... I suppose that's the reason why so many don't bother to use them...😡

When I started the process of getting my driver's license, and consequently learning to drive, I thought that signaling with the turn signal on a car or motorcycle was nonsense. In my mind, it seemed unnecessary. Over time and with practice on the road, I realized how much of a difference this simple gesture makes. Turn signals help other drivers make safer decisions when changing lanes, turning, or performing similar maneuvers.

Today, I get very annoyed when someone suddenly changes lanes without even signaling their intention. This not only shows a lack of road manners, but also puts everyone's safety at risk. Nowadays, using my turn signal has become an automatic habit for me, something I do naturally, out of respect for others and for safety.

You explained very well! At first glance, it looks like using a turn signal is worthless for the person who drives, but it is very important for everyone involved... We are safer when we use it, and others are aware of our future actions! We don't have a crystal ball that we can guess where someone will go... 😂

Now that you have described your learning curve, I can guess that those who don't use blinkers are stuck in the moment of learning to drive, as they didn't progress further than that moment...
