Getting away from Smartphone
Hello and Namaste Everyone
This is my participation forWeekend-Engagement topics: WEEK 183 by @galenkp
Could you live without your mobile phone for one weekend?
This is the question that has been asked as one of the topics for this week, and I will share what I plan to do. I have been using a smartphone for over a decade and now I agree that it has become part of my life so it is not easy to get away with it immediately. Many of you might say that life without a mobile phone is incomplete and I can understand your thoughts behind this statement. Even I used to think like this until a few months back but now I am changing my phone habits.
I use a Oneplus mobile device that is 5 years old and it's almost time for me to upgrade the phone. It works pretty well but there are some issues with OS and even the battery backup is not good. Earlier I had a plan that I will be upgrading my phone in the last quarter of this year when there is a sale going on. Indian ecommerce websites offer some sales and during this, we can get smartphones at discounted prices. I decided to change my phone habit and won't be using a smartphone more instead I have decided to move to a feature phone.
A feature phone is a mobile device through which we can only use certain functions including, calls, SMS, FM Radio, etc. All these basic phone functions are available with feature phones and we do not have the functionality to use the Internet or social media applications like WhatsApp Facebook etc. This is a device that we can use only to talk with someone or communicate through SMS. This is just a medium to stay connected with people through phone calls and that is all we can do with feature phones.
Instead of upgrading to the smartphone, I bought a feature phone from Nokia which is good by design but does not offer many features. It has a camera but it isn't good and even some other features but you won't count them. See this mobile phone boz for feature details -
I'm not going to throw away my smartphone but I only keep this new feature found with me most of the time and even when I go outside I carry it with it and the other phone remains in my bag. Sometimes I don't even take it out because I don't feel the need as most things can be done by calling. There is no need for me to spend hours in front of the phone screen and use social media applications.
This is the new feature that is my new phone friend and its battery backup is too good. It lasts 4-5 days easily and I love it.
Here my both phones (smartphone and feature) and now since I don't use the smartphone much its low battery backup does not affect me much. I mostly use it for WhatsApp since I get some communications in this application and some banking applications that are needed to get things done. Now it has very limited applications so the battery backup is more than one day because screen time is not even thirty minutes in a day.
What is my plan with the phone?
Some people follow social detox for certain days and they just try to maintain a gap from their smartphone. Usually, this can be one or two days in a month or sometimes one day in a week. But still, we spend the remaining days heavily with the smartphone and spend many hours in front of the phone screen. With the change that I have adopted, I will not be using a smartphone unless it is needed and I have made a switch to the feature phone which has only a calling function and some other features that are not making any difference in my life. I have already been following this for the last few months and I can see the improvement in my routine. There is no reason for me to spend hours with a feature phone and this was the thought behind buying this phone. Now I am not going to upgrade my Oneplus smartphone and will continue to use this device unless this is not dead 😂
When I need to work on the hive I use the laptop because it is not just convenient but also helps me have a disciplined routine. This is why I engage with the community when I am online and my responses are not as instant as it was before. I reply to every command and also engage with many authors but for that, I have a proper schedule which is usually at night and I do this using my laptop. I enjoy this new change in my life and the routine I follow i'm very happy I would say. This change is good and I enjoy it so I will be following it for a long and have no plan to change it soon. With this change, I'm getting more time to spend with family and friends, especially my kid and yes there is another world that is much more fun than the virtual world. Both are important and there has to be a balance between both.

Now days the phones are become part of life and their respective many incidents when we badly need the smart phone like making any online payment or for the direction using the maps.
The habit is good as it will for sure spare time for other activities.
What you are saying is right my friend and I agree that phones are important in our life because many things can be done using the phone. I understand the importance of a smartphone but at the same time, I am trying to restrict my usage and reduce my screen time significantly. As far as a phone, I have feature phone for that and the smartphone will be used only when its a necessity.
Yay! 🤗

Frankly though, I'm not sure I can be separated from my phone for any reason. Even when the battery is low, I'll rather charge my power bank and keep my phone close. It's also my means of livelihood. I know it's an unhealthy obsession, but I'm not sure it can be helped. I love your approach to keeping a solid routine. You clearly are a desciplined person. Beautiful piece, I picked a few lessons.
I agree that it's not easy and certainly tough to make a distance from the phone. There was a time when I used to carry a power bank all the time just in case my phone has got low battery so that I can charge it back. I was doing it because I watched so much addicted to the phone that time but now I hardly spend 15 20 minutes in a day and this change I have adopted since last three months approximately. It's a good change for me and I'm very happy with this transition that I have done from this smartphone to the feature phone because I get more time to spend with family and friends when I also have the option to talk to them when required. Appreciate your valuable comment and thank you so much for stopping by.
Wow, bahot accha laga ye sab padhke aur ye sach mein kamaal ka much needed self-control hai aapka. 😇
Waise maine bhi thoda parhez shuru Kiya hai.. dinner ke baad se breakfast ke pahle Tak main apna phone use hee nahi karta unless koi jaruri call ho. I know ye bahot kam hai😅 par maine notice Kiya tha ki dinner ke baad ke 3 hours aur breakfast ke pahle ke almost 3 hour hee sabse jyada phone use ho raha tha. Aur wohi main free time bhi hota hai Ghar mein apne aur apno ke sath toh, thoda hai Parr shuruwat ke liye accha hai.
Dhandwad Aap Ka Jo Aap Ko Mera Post Pasand aai.
Yeh change Assan nai hai but maine try kiya aur iska result acha hai. Sahi bat kahi apne, hum mostly phone breakfast aur dinner ke time use karte hai aur ye family time hona chahiye.
Ab mai free time ko sahi se use kar pati hu aur even hive ke hours bhi ek tarah se schedukld ho gaye ha.. We all need discipline in life to make a change and I did the same.
