In the image section, instead of selecting default distributions like Ubuntu, look for Rocky Linux. Typically, the Azure marketplace provides multiple images, including free options. When presented with pricing options, make sure to only select the free images. In this case, Rocky Linux 9 has available free resources, which should be your choice.
Next, you will see available sizes for your virtual machine. For a standard configuration, selecting 2 CPUs and 8GB RAM should suffice.
Now, it’s time to generate SSH keys. Azure can automate this process for you; simply allow it to create the key and download it. By default, the username for accessing the VM will be aureuser. After downloading your SSH key, ensure you save it in a convenient location on your computer.
If you already have previous SSH keys that need to be purged, do that as well. It's advisable to utilize a utility like PuTTYgen to convert your key from its default format to a PPK format, which is necessary for Windows machines.
After completing the setup and generation of keys, review the settings. Validate the configurations, including which resources and credits will be charged to your account. If everything looks good, proceed to create your virtual machine.
Upon creation, Azure will initiate the deployment. You’ll want to retrieve the public IP address assigned to your new instance for remote access later.
Configuring Remote Access with PuTTY
To connect to your virtual machine, download and install PuTTY if you haven’t already. Open PuTTY and enter the public IP address you copied earlier. Under SSH-Auth, you can provide the private key in PPK format.
Once your session is configured, save it for easy access next time. Finally, click on Open to connect to your VM, and when prompted, confirm the connection fingerprint to establish the SSH session.
Verifying Access and System Details
Upon successful connection, you will be prompted to log in as aureuser. Once logged in, you can verify your system configurations and resources with commands like ls -hw for hardware details and lshw -short for a summary of your machine's specifications, including memory and CPU configurations.
At this point, your Rocky Linux virtual machine is ready for usage and further configurations based on your needs.
When you've completed the tasks on your virtual machine, it's crucial to clean up by deleting the VM to avoid unnecessary charges. Here’s how:
Exit the SSH Session: Simply type exit to disconnect your session.
Stop the Virtual Machine: Use the Azure portal to stop the VM's resources.
Delete the Virtual Machine: Follow the navigation to delete the VM.
Additionally, reassure that you also delete any virtual networks associated with your VM. This step helps in managing costs effectively as lingering resources could incur charges on your account.
The process has effectively guided you from the initial setup of a Rocky Linux virtual machine in Azure to its final usage and subsequent deletion. By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth user experience while making the best use of Azure's virtual machine offerings. Always be mindful of resource management to keep costs under control and optimize your cloud experience.

Actually, the other year, a cars road redevelopment project was done near my area. They asked for millions of dinars for the project, but the higher-ups still used cheap materials and pocketed the money difference.
A few years later, that road is terrible to drive on again.
The worst part? The higher-ups were all in agreement about this, the ones who were against it were probably silenced, so us normies can't do anything about it.
I realized this was common all over the world when I was in Hong Kong. All the roads have steel barriers for no reason, even where there are no people or on quiet roads where there is no danger. Turns out the steel company has family in politics 🙄
In America it’s also road construction projects.
In Japan it seems the margin on corruption is smaller so it hardly looks like corruption. They actually build a new, well functioning building, but they will undoubtedly destroy it again in 20 years, citing earthquake dangers, meaning while there are many much older buildings that never have any problems, and these expensive projects are meant to withstand earthquakes anyway.
The corruption has become institutionalized and they look busy just so few people realize it’s corruption
