Today I can celebrate something! The Value plan finally not getting all of their funding for pointless projects that do nothing but waste resources and most likely stuff a select fews pockets. Let's hope we stay this way. If it were up to me there would be no DHF and instead funding would come from upvotes on updates on projects etc via articles.

I agree this makes me happy, but VSC being unfunded seems bad.
As they are close to launch and unlike 3speak etc... has something the chain needs.

What really needs to happen is that either blocktrades simply can't vote on proposals like this I mean they get plenty of funds already, a cap put on it (which would just be manipulated from multi accounts) or just a big overhaul for how the whole DHF is voted on and funded. It's rather clear that this current system does not work. We in for another hard fork? lol

I hope not, I feel that there are better changes we can focus on first to make this situation more manageable. Hard fork would spell disaster for the chain

Meta Eyes AI Humanoid Future

Part 1/7:

Mazda's Ambitious Foray into Humanoid Robotics

In recent years, the prospect of humanoid robots has shifted from the realm of science fiction to an emerging market ready for exploration and development. Mazda is positioning itself as a major player in this burgeoning sector, backed by significant financial investments and strategic partnerships aimed at creating advanced humanoid robots that can assist with everyday tasks.

The Vision Behind Mazdas's Robotics Initiative

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 2/7:

Mazda's ambition is clear: they aim to dominate the nascent humanoid market, which promises a range of applications from domestic chores to more complex tasks. The vision encompasses robots that can perform functions such as folding laundry, serving drinks, and carrying items up stairs. Competing in this arena are notable names including Tesla with its Optimus robot and Boston Dynamics with its Spot robot. Companies like Apple and Google's DeepMind are also making strides in related technologies, indicating a vigorous interest in humanoid robotics.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 3/7:

In pursuing this vision, Mazda intends to become the foundational pillar of the humanoid industry. Their strategy is to provide the software, hardware, artificial intelligence, sensor technology, and computational power that will drive the development of humanoid robots across the market. This goal is reminiscent of what Android and Qualcomm have achieved in the smartphone sector, positioning Mazda as a crucial player in robotic technology.

Strategic Partnerships and New Initiatives

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 4/7:

To scale up its ambitions, Mazda is exploring partnerships with emerging tech companies focused on robotics, including Unitree and Digger A.I. As part of this strategic initiative, they are launching a new division led by former GM Cruise CEO, Mark Whitten. The company plans to recruit around 100 personnel dedicated to the robotics field. This approach reflects a commitment to build a robust workforce equipped to tackle the complexities of humanoid robotics, ultimately seeking to produce a leading humanoid robot that could set industry standards.

Financial Investment and Revenue Models

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 5/7:

Mazda’s investment strategy in humanoid robots is part of an overarching commitment to advance artificial intelligence and augmented reality technologies, with a projected expenditure of $65 billion on research and development through 2025. Portions of this budget will be allocated toward robotics, where Mazda envisions several revenue streams.

While the end goal is to sell these robots to consumers, there lies an immediate opportunity in positioning themselves as a technology platform. This model would allow Mazda to license its technology to third-party manufacturers and encourage an ecosystem of robotics development. They see the current hardware landscape as well-equipped, with opportunities for innovation primarily in the artificial intelligence and software sectors.

0

avatar

Part 6/7:

Lessons From Previous Ventures

Reflecting on Mazda's experiences with Reality Labs, particularly during their ventures in augmented reality and headsets, the company has indicated a desire to approach the humanoid robot sector with a more measured pace. Compared to the explosive hiring practices seen during the rapid expansion of the metaverse project, Mazda plans to expand its team more sustainably by gradually bringing in talent.

The company’s strategy highlights a balancing act between ambition and prudence, as they navigate the complexities of developing humanoid robots that require unique technological advancements not only in construction but also in operational capacity.

avatar

Part 7/7:

Mazda's ventures in humanoid robotics illustrate the potential for transformative technology to redefine how we interact with machines in everyday life. By establishing a solid foundation in software and artificial intelligence, the company envisions leading the charge in a sector that could very well shape the future of domestic and service automation. As they embark on this journey with a significant investment and strategic partnerships, the implications of their development raise exciting questions about the evolving relationship between humans and machines.

Coinbase shares slide after posting Q4 revenue surge: CNBC Crypto World

Part 1/8:

Bitcoin Market Update

As the week comes to a close, Bitcoin is trading impressively at the $97,000 level, showing signs of resilience in the volatile crypto market. In the latest updates on the cryptocurrency landscape, Bitcoin has gained nearly 2.5% since the beginning of the week, keeping pace with the broader S&P 500 Index, which has also seen improvements.

Ethereum is not far behind, climbing by 4.5% and trading at $2,742, while XRP has made headlines by jumping over 133% after the SEC acknowledged Grayscale's proposal for an ETF linked to the token. The overall enthusiasm in the crypto markets is evident, with strong performance echoing the positive sentiment from last week's developments.

Coinbase and Robinhood Earnings

avatar

Part 2/8:

One of the most significant stories from the week involves Coinbase. Despite posting its most substantial quarterly revenue in three years, driving more than $1.5 billion in transaction revenue—tripling year-over-year—its shares fell by approximately 7%. This downturn is surprising given the company's pivotal role in supporting crypto-friendly political initiatives, including a hefty contribution of over $75 million during the recent election cycle.

Meanwhile, Robinhood's earnings report showed a staggering year-over-year increase of over 700% in its crypto transaction revenue, hinting at the growing interest in digital assets among retail investors. Despite the decline in Coinbase's share price, it remains nearly 12% up year-to-date.

GameStop's Potential foray into Crypto

0

0.000
avatar

Part 3/8:

On another note, GameStop's shares surged recently following speculation that it might explore investments in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This move has been driven by CEO Ryan Cohen's engagement with leading figures in the crypto space. With GameStop looking to reposition itself, the potential investment in Bitcoin could signify a strategic pivot to align with the evolving digital asset landscape.

Michigan's Crypto Reserve Proposal

Part 4/8:

Adding to the series of state-level developments, Michigan has proposed legislation allowing the state treasurer to invest in cryptocurrencies. The proposal seeks to allocate up to 10% of the general fund and the state's economic stabilization fund toward crypto assets, positioning Michigan alongside states like Texas, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, which have also shown interest in adopting crypto reserve strategies.

Tether's CEO Responds to Regulatory Concerns

avatar

Part 5/8:

In light of recent regulatory scrutiny, Paulo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, engaged with CNBC to discuss JP Morgan’s report indicating potential challenges for Tether given proposed U.S. stablecoin legislation. JP Morgan suggested that Tether would need to replace some of its current reserves, primarily composed of non-compliant assets, with high-quality, liquid assets.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 6/8:

Ardoino countered that Tether possesses over $20 billion in additional assets that could be leveraged to meet requirements and emphasized Tether's ongoing efforts to transition toward more conservative investments, including U.S. Treasuries. He expressed confidence in Tether’s compliance capabilities and the importance of stable coins, particularly outside of the U.S., where many individuals lack access to traditional banking services.

The Role of Stablecoins in Global Finance

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 7/8:

During the interview, Ardoino highlighted the critical role stablecoins play globally, particularly for unbanked populations. With millions relying on stablecoins like USDT, he underscored the emphasis on fostering a decentralized and resilient U.S. dollar stablecoin ecosystem as a means to enhance U.S. financial stability and maintain competitiveness in global markets.

Looking Ahead

As regulatory discussions evolve, Tether remains committed to engaging with U.S. lawmakers to ensure that the stablecoin sector is correctly understood and positioned to thrive. Ardoino expressed optimism over the U.S. administration's openness to crypto and indicated that Tether would seek to explore new opportunities in the year ahead.

Part 8/8:

In closing, Crypto World will continue to monitor these developments closely, promising a return on Tuesday after the long weekend. Stay tuned for further insights as the crypto landscape unfolds.

I’ve always been conflicted about this associating decentralized technology with decentralized power. The technology makes decentralization of power possible but it’s still an uphill battle. It requires us to really value the idea of decentralized power and act towards it.

Best we can do is keep forcing them to raise the bar so no projects get funded and everyone gets pissed and invites blocktrades witness

don’t worry bro, we’ll put out best foot forward and gain more support. Leo’s work speaks volumes and if we can start the momentum any other way first it’ll be such a clear case to anyone on the fence.

Imagine we onboard 3 or 4 new hive/leo whales where hive price rides on the wave of Leo and there’s that much more $ that supports LEO?? What then?

For many, the idea of making these delectable pancakes may sound too good to be true, while for others, it may invoke some skepticism especially from those wondering about the incorporation of protein. Regardless, Caden dives into the process, openly admitting his lack of chef-like skills but brimming with enthusiasm.

Part 2/7:

To begin, Caden highlights the essential ingredients for the pancakes: three eggs—separated into yolks and whites—flour, protein powder, sugar, milk, and a touch of vanilla. As he attempts to carefully separate the yolks from the whites, humorous mishaps ensue, showcasing a relatable kitchen struggle. Despite the minor setbacks where yolks spill into the wrong bowls, Caden maintains an upbeat attitude, bringing viewers along for the ride of both laughter and learning.

Part 3/7:

Once the egg whites are successfully separated, the next crucial step is to mix the yolks with flour and protein powder. Caden cleverly shares his thought process on the best techniques for mixing, opting not to use salt after observing numerous recipes. Viewers can sense the tension and excitement as he gathers all the ingredients, mixing them into a delicate batter.

The Egg Whites Challenge

Caden now turns his focus to whisking the egg whites—a task that requires his utmost attention to reach the perfect foamy consistency. As Caden carefully combines the mixture, he verbalizes his progress, expressing nervousness yet confidence about achieving the right fluffiness for the pancakes. Each step reveals not just a method, but also Caden's personal growth in the kitchen.

Preparing to Cook

After preparing the batter, Caden moves onto the cooking phase, excitedly adding oil to the pan and adjusting the heat to a low setting. His instructions emphasize patience and a gentle touch, which is vital for creating the signature jiggly texture these pancakes are known for. Choosing to use a piping bag technique instead of pouring from the bowl, Caden showcases another layer of creativity and adaptability.

Flipping the Pancakes

As the timer goes off for the pancakes, the real test begins. With the excitement building, Caden carefully assesses the readiness of his creations. However, just like any aspiring chef, challenges arise. A few pancakes prove a challenge to flip, highlighting the unpredictability of cooking.

Part 1/6:

How to Make Perfect Belgian Waffles: A Step-by-Step Guide

Belgian waffles are a beloved breakfast classic, known for their crispy exterior and fluffy interior. Today, John Kanell from Preppy Kitchen shares his foolproof recipe for making these delightful waffles at home. With a few simple ingredients and some handy tips, you can whip up a batch that will leave everyone asking for more. Here’s how to create the perfect Belgian waffles from scratch.

Preparation: Getting Started

Before diving into the mixing process, it’s essential to prepare your tools and ingredients. Begin by preheating your waffle maker to a medium-high setting (around a three on most machines). By ensuring it’s hot enough, you’ll achieve that ideal crispy texture.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 2/6:

Next, gather your dry ingredients in a large bowl. For this recipe, you’ll need 2 ¼ cups (270 grams) of all-purpose flour. To help your waffles rise and become fluffy, add 4 teaspoons of baking powder and ¾ teaspoon of salt. The choice of salt can vary based on your personal preference—opt for kosher sea salt for a milder taste or use less if you prefer table salt.

To sweeten the mix and achieve that lovely cake-like texture, mix in 50 grams (¼ cup) of granulated sugar. With the dry ingredients well combined, you’re ready to move on to the wet ingredients.

Making the Batter: Wet and Dry Combined

avatar

Part 3/6:

In a separate medium bowl, crack 2 eggs, separating the yolks from the whites. The yolks will join the wet ingredients, while the whites will be beaten independently to create that airy consistency characteristic of Belgian waffles.

To the egg yolks, add 2 cups of whole milk and ½ cup of vegetable oil. Alternatively, you could use melted butter for flavor, but be cautious that it might need warming to avoid clumps. Adding a touch of 2 teaspoons of vanilla enhances the flavor profile of the batter.

Now it’s time to whip the egg whites. Using an electric mixer, froth the whites until you achieve stiff peaks. This step is crucial as it contributes to the waffles’ fluffiness. If you desire, you can add a bit of sugar to the egg whites for extra stability.

avatar

Part 4/6:

Combining Ingredients: Creating the Batter

With both wet and dry mixtures ready, it’s time to bring them together. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix until just combined; a few streaks of flour are fine. Remember, gentle handling is key, especially when folding in the whipped egg whites. This maintains the bubbles, ensuring your waffles are light and airy.

Scoop the beaten egg whites into the batter, folding delicately to keep the mixture light. A spatula helps in incorporating the ingredients without deflating the egg whites entirely.

Cooking the Waffles: A Few Tips for Success

Before you begin cooking, place a wire rack near your waffle maker. This is important as it allows the steam to escape and prevents sogginess at the bottom of your freshly cooked waffles.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 5/6:

Using about ⅓ to ⅔ cup of batter per waffle (check your waffle maker's instructions), pour the mixture into the preheated waffle maker and close the lid. The signal to take your waffles out will be when the steam begins to dissipate.

Carefully transfer the cooked waffles onto the wire rack to keep them crispy. Repeat the process until all the batter has been used.

Serving Suggestions

These Belgian waffles are perfect for serving with a variety of toppings. Consider berries, whipped cream, or a drizzle of maple syrup for a classic breakfast treat.

John’s recipe allows for plenty of room for customization, encouraging you to experiment with flavors and toppings to suit your taste.

Part 1/5:

The Perfect Waffle Recipe: An Easy Breakfast Delight

Making waffles at home can be a delightful experience, offering a warm, crispy, and fluffy treat that is sure to brighten your morning. This article walks you through an easy waffle recipe, perfect for breakfast enthusiasts and baking novices alike. With no buttermilk required, this straightforward guide promises quick results without sacrificing flavor.

Gathering Ingredients

To make these delicious waffles, you'll need to gather both dry and wet ingredients.

For the dry mixture:

  • Flour – the main ingredient that forms the base of your waffles.

  • Salt – just a pinch for seasoning.

  • Baking Powder – essential for that fluffy texture that makes waffles irresistible.

For the wet mixture:

Part 2/5:

  • Egg Yolks – to enrich the batter.

  • Milk – adds moisture and helps in the easy mixing of ingredients.

  • Oil – for crispiness; a suggested 40g if you prefer a crunchier texture.

  • Vanilla Extract or any other flavoring – adds a sweet aroma.

  • Honey – not only sweetens the batter but also contributes to browning. Sugar can be used as an alternative.

Preparing the Batter

Once your ingredients are ready, mix the dry components together in a bowl. Add in the wet ingredients, starting with the egg yolks, followed by the milk, oil, vanilla extract, and honey. Stir them together until well combined. It’s okay if the mixture has some lumps; they will work themselves out during cooking!

0.000
avatar

Part 3/5:

To ensure a silky batter, strain the mixture to remove any lumpy flour or unwhipped egg whites.

Whipping the Egg Whites

A crucial step in achieving the perfect waffle is whipping the egg whites. Ideally, a hand mixer is recommended for this task, as it provides the necessary aeration for your batter. If you want to challenge yourself, you can whip the egg whites by hand. Although this is more labor-intensive, it offers a unique experience.

Once whipped, gently fold the egg whites into your batter. You may notice steam rising from the mixture—this is a good sign that your waffles will be fluffy and light when cooked.

Cooking the Waffles

Part 4/5:

Now that your batter is ready, it's time to heat up your waffle maker. Depending on the size of your appliance, this recipe can yield 4 to 5 waffles. As you cook them, you’ll want to pay attention to that satisfying steam; when the steam dissipates, your waffles are done!

The result should be a beautiful stack of crispy waffles, ready to be enjoyed.

Serving Suggestions

Waffles can be served in countless ways. A simple recommendation is to top them with heavy cream and fresh fruit; it adds a delightful freshness alongside the rich flavors of the waffles.

Additionally, if you find yourself with leftovers, these waffles freeze well! You can easily pop them in the toaster for a quick breakfast that’s just as delectable as when they were first made.

Part 1/12:

The Rise and Fall of Plant-Based Giants: A Critical Examination of Oatly and Beyond Meat

The late 2010s marked a significant turning point for plant-based foods, transitioning them from niche products to mainstream consumer items. With the advent of startups like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, consumers were introduced to meatless products that not only looked like their animal-based counterparts but also closely mimicked their taste and texture. Similarly, Oatly made headlines by offering oat milk that rivaled the creaminess of traditional cow milk. This newfound innovation represented a radical shift in the consumer packaged goods landscape, targeting not only a vegan audience but also the broader market of omnivores.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 2/12:

Historically, vegan products were confined to a small percentage of consumers—less than 1% of the global population identified as vegan. However, the emergence of these plant-based pioneers aimed to tap into a wider consumer base. What followed was an explosion of interest and sales, with consumers willing to pay a premium for products marketed as healthier and more sustainable alternatives. As Oatly, Beyond Meat, and Impossible Foods became household names, they attracted the attention of major corporations like Unilever and Coca-Cola, which quickly moved to develop their own plant-based offerings.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 3/12:

Yet, the enthusiasm surrounding this plant-based revolution has not persisted. Fast forward just a few years, and Oatly and Beyond Meat have struggled desperately, with their valuations plummeting to penny stock status. Both brands now face monumental financial losses annually, leading many to question whether the vegan movement is genuinely sustainable.

The Argument Against Veganism: Structural Challenges

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 4/12:

Critics of the current vegan startup landscape argue that the game is rigged against plant-based companies. They contend that meat and dairy products receive substantial subsidies, enabling them to be sold at artificially low prices, while their vegan counterparts bear the burden of relying on consumer demand alone. As a result, customers often find themselves paying more for plant-based options—a phenomenon referred to as the "vegan tax." Until government support mirrors that of meat and dairy, the argument posits that plant-based products will remain too costly for everyday consumers, rendering companies like Oatly and Beyond Meat vulnerable to failure.

A Closer Look at Oatly: Mismanagement or a Rigged System?

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 5/12:

The challenges facing Oatly while trying to capitalize on its first-mover advantage have sparked significant debate. As the world's foremost oat milk producer, Oatly boasted impressive revenue growth, yet the shadow of unprofitability loomed large. Rising competition from traditional dairy giants and fellow newcomers intensified the strain on the company’s bottom line.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 6/12:

Despite skyrocketing demand in its early years, Oatly's financial strategies began to reveal cracks. Opting to internalize its supply chain to safeguard trade secrets, the company invested heavily in its production capabilities. Building manufacturing facilities around the globe was seen as a way to ensure greater production and faster distribution—an ambitious plan considering the economic realities of the dairy and dairy-alternative markets.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 7/12:

Ultimately, however, Oatly’s over-expansion, coupled with rising costs and changing consumer preferences, led to a sharp decline in revenue growth. The failure to maintain its operations efficiently with declining demand resulted in crippling financial losses, which historians suggest stem from a flawed belief that oat milk could underpin a radically different business model with stronger fundamentals than traditional dairy.

The Dairy Industry: A Cautionary Tale

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 8/12:

Delving into the broader implications of the dairy industry provides clarity on Oatly's challenges. As a mature sector with minimal projected growth, the dairy market represents a cautionary tale for plant-based alternatives. Retailers’ longstanding practice of positioning milk as a loss leader translates to low consumer prices, a dynamic that Oatly, with its premium pricing model, could not replicate.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 9/12:

Moreover, the historical entrenchment of subsidies for dairy producers has created a weather-resistant industry. Different from the situation for plant-based brands, dairy farmers enjoy various safety nets which keep them afloat even during market downturns. One example is Dairy Management Incorporated (DMI), a government-funded nonprofit that has tirelessly promoted milk consumption. This kind of support has led to massive overproduction issues, making it difficult for individual operators in the dairy space to find profitability.

The Future of Plant-Based Alternatives

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 10/12:

If plant-based alternatives are to fully replace dairy products like Oatly aspires, they must navigate significant market pressures. Retailers who have embraced private label offerings further exacerbate pressures on brands like Oatly, eroding their premium pricing power. Consumers seeking oat milk can easily turn to cheaper branded options if Oatly isn’t available, making brand loyalty a tenuous cushion in a market characterized by low switching costs.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 11/12:

The overarching conclusion is stark; no matter the advantages in branding or innovation, Oatly’s struggles may not solely stem from market fluctuations or mismanagement. If the future of dairy indeed entails the integration of plant-based alternatives, without substantial changes to the structure of government support—like those for traditional dairy production—brands such as Oatly might find themselves at an existential crossroads.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 12/12:

As the plant-based market continues to evolve, two key routes could ensure longevity: integration into larger conglomerates that provide the financial backing to weather market volatility or transformation into cooperative models managed by the farmers themselves. The initial promise of plant-based alternatives hinges not only on consumer awareness and demand but also on the broader economic structures that govern food production and pricing. For now, the jury remains out on whether the plant-based dream can be realized in a world where commodities, particularly milk, remain politically loaded and economically complicated.

Dumpers/airdrop hunters have no room with Pi.

Either they didn't mine at all, gave up midway, or sold their stash p2p.

Pi value would skyrocket after listing. For sure.

Yea that definitely rattled things up. I was giving it some thought from a neutral perspective and the effects of it may not be so bad long-term. I hate the fact that it seemed to come about because the InLEO proposal was on the verge of getting funded, but a few potential positive outcomes (whether intentional or not) are

  • It basically hit a reset button on the DHF, which was needed. Seems all projects will have to drastically reduce their ask to get funded. I would hope part of the reasoning is "I(we) feel the LEO proposal is asking a bit much based on the value provided, but the most basic assessment of the rest of the field says that based on that logic, pretty much nothing else should be funded" lol. While I disagree, this perspective would be a lot less unsettling.
  • Price appreciation: less bleeding from the DHF + all projects will need to accumulate more HIVE to increase voting power.

I don't like it at all...guess we gotta roll w/ the punches

It could also be added that blocktrades has too much power, too much influence in DHF's decision making, there could be a conflict of interest. At the very least, it is questionable.

🤖 Google's recent #AI updates are putting them back in the forefront of the sector. This is in part due to them having the capital to release free AI products, combined with the fact that everybody already has a Google (Gmail) account.

The combined suite of Google Gemini, Notebook, and the recent AI Studio updates make many of the niche paid AI tools obsolete. In the end, Google might become the leader in the "public" AI space. We just can't ignore their biggest advantages:

  1. Absolutely NO FRICTION to start using their products. Just log in w/ gmail.
  2. There own perpetual data sources (Google searches, YouTube videos, Gmail messages, Google Smart devices, File sharing, Cloud storage, Google Maps).
  3. The capital to provide free offerings.

Hopefully we see more true open-sourced or blockchain based alternatives...#LEOAI wink-wink

#historyonleo #onthisday On February 16th 1936 general election in Spain is won by Popular Front, broad coalition of left-wing parties that includes Communists. Before the government is formed, even more radical leftist elements, like Anarchists or Anarcho-syndicalists, begin with spontaneous acts of collectivisation and expropriation of private property, which is followed by escalation of political violence and radicalisation of both left and the right. Right-wing forces in Spain coalesce around army that would attempt coup in July, but this effort instead leads to brutal and bloody civil war that would end in 1939 with victory of Nationalists and Fascists under Francisco Franco who would establish dictatorship. Next free democratic elections in Spain will be held in 1977, two years after Franco's death.

#historyonleo #onthisday On February 16th 1940, during the early stages of WW2, Royal Navy destroyer HMS Cossack captures Altmark, German tanker in boarding action that left number of German crew dead and, according to popular legend, was last British naval action involving cutlasses. HMS Cossack returns home with 300 Allied prisoners, originally captured by German battleship Admiral Graf Spee in South Atlantic months before. Altmark Incident is hailed as major victory for Allies, who needed propaganda boost during so-called Phoney War. Yet, it causes serious political and diplomatic repercussions because it happened in territorial waters of Norway, which was neutral at the time. Altmark incident is sometimes credited for convincing Hitler to authorise invasion of Norway which would start less than two months later.

Time Zones in 1930 Germany

Time zones were indeed established by the late 19th century, with the world being divided into 24 time zones in 1884.
In 1930, Germany was in the Central European Time (CET) zone, which is UTC+1.

Historical Context

It's worth noting that during World War II, Germany observed Central European Summer Time (CEST), which is UTC+2, as a daylight saving measure.
However, in 1930, Germany followed the standard CET time zone.
For more information on time zones, you can refer to the image shared by @brando28:

it's good to have O.O if we have every proposal go thru that's not good fam or is there some other requirement for a proposal to pass that im missing

0

Not every proposal goes through. Many good proposals have failed to get funded. It's all a popularity contest. you have to be in the top voted proposals to get a part of the daily funding that is available and now Blocktrades makes it where he basically has to approve.

0
0
0.000
avatar

ya not every goes through because we have the return proposal now? there's a standard set no?

well it's not a perfect system but it's better than just letting hell loose? if you have a better way to do things suggest it and push it ;3

0

No, there have been many projects in Hive's history that hasn't gotten funded because they didn't get the votes to get funded. The DHF (Decentralized in name only) has been a center of debate from the fork anyway, so the whales are just closing the circle even more. It doesn't help the chain, it only centralizes those funds between the people at the top.

0

hmm then I'm not sure. Can only say the smaller people gotta step up and power up and stand up.

hive is great hopefully they don't ruin it ;c

Bro, Blocktrades has nearly 27 million HP worth of voting power. He literally has the controlling stake in the DHF if he is throwing his governance weight around. Please tell me how that is good for the chain? So basically to get funded, you have to beg for Blocktrades's blessing. It's complete centralization and bad for the chain, period. You will never get me to think otherwise. Major downside to proof of stake.

0
0
0.000
avatar

ya but if not wrong he already took his vote off the return so it's not really an issue. I think he just did it to get attention and hope smaller people are also paying attention to proposals and caring more about the chain. idk i could be wrong

Is what it is. I have been around since the Steem days and the whales pulled the same kind of stuff over there too. Nothing has changed. If that was his intention, then I think he needs to tell the community why he did that.

Amazon workers reject union in vote at North Carolina warehouse

Organizers had been campaigning at the warehouse since 2022, hoping to secure higher wages and longer breaks.

Amazon workers at a facility near Raleigh, North Carolina, overwhelmingly voted against unionizing on Saturday.

Of the 3,276 ballots cast, there were 2,447 votes opposing the union and 829 in favor, according to the National Labor Relations Board. There were 77 challenged ballots, a gap that's too narrow to change the outcome of the election. The results still need to be certified by the NLRB.

The election at the facility, named RDU1 and located in the suburb of Garner, came after organizers with the upstart Carolina Amazonians United for Solidarity and Empowerment (CAUSE) campaigned at the warehouse for the past three years. The facility employs roughly 4,700 workers.

CAUSE said in a statement that the election results were a "result of Amazon's willingness to break the law."

"Amazon's relentless and illegal efforts to intimidate us prove that this company is afraid of workers coming together to claim our power," the group said. "Amazon may think it is above the law, but we will not accept a system that allows billionaires and corporations to play by a different set of rules."

Amazon responded to the Garner union drive with a barrage of anti-union messages in the warehouse, on a website, and sent through its AtoZ app to employees. A leader of the warehouse urged employees to "vote no," saying a union "can get in the way of how we work together." The company described CAUSE as an "outside party" that's "claiming to be a union."

Amazon has previously said its employees can choose whether or not to join a union, and that it speaks "openly, candidly and respectfully about these topics" so that they can "make an informed decision."

Part 1/8:

The State of the Market: Inflation, Gold, and the Future of Investments

In recent discussions surrounding the financial markets, concerns about inflation and its potential impact on investment strategies have come to the forefront. With a noticeable decline in the stock market, particularly the S&P 500 and NASDAQ, inflation fears have returned, prompting investors to evaluate where to allocate their resources.

Current Market Trends

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 2/8:

The stock market experienced a slight downturn, with the S&P 500 dropping about half a percent and NASDAQ tumbling nearly one percent. This reflects resurgent concerns about inflation, especially as consumer sentiment regarding inflation has shifted distinctly upwards. According to a Michigan consumer survey, respondents expect an inflation rate of 4.3% a year from now, representing a dramatic one-point jump from the previous month, marking the highest expectation since November 2023.

Understanding Inflation

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 3/8:

One of the core points discussed is the complex relationship between government policies and inflation. It was argued that inflation is often created intentionally to help governments manage economic variables like growth and debt. The mechanics of inflation, including its transactional versus chronic form, were emphasized as being crucial to understanding market dynamics. Acute inflation can be seen as a temporary inconvenience, while chronic inflation can signal serious long-term economic issues.

The Role of Tariffs

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 4/8:

Concerns regarding aggressive tariff strategies by the government further complicate the implications for inflation, as these tariffs can create sudden spikes in prices while negatively impacting international trade. The notion that escalating tariffs leads to “beggar-thy-neighbor” economics was highlighted, indicating a shared global downturn.

The Gold Market

Turning the focus to gold, there seems to be a strong bullish sentiment among investors. Gold has rallied significantly in recent months, with some foreseeing a price surge that could see it reach $5,000 per ounce. This bullish perspective stems from the chaos and volatility present in both international and domestic political landscapes, which historically drive investors towards gold as a safe haven asset.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 5/8:

Analyzing Gold's Price Dynamics

Gold's rising trajectory was depicted as a "ballistic curve," indicating well-defined acceleration rather than slow, incremental growth. This pattern is characteristic of speculative bubbles. As such, the evolving political landscape and economic uncertainties are driving many investors towards gold, as they seek to hedge against increasing market volatility. The dialogue frames gold not only as a financial instrument but as an emblematic response to the specter of geopolitical threats.

Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Outlook

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 6/8:

Meanwhile, Bitcoin's trajectory remains relatively flat compared to gold, reflecting a cautious market. It was noted that previous significant spikes in Bitcoin’s price often mirror those seen in gold, yet the current market context indicates a more subdued optimism for cryptocurrencies at this moment. Historical patterns suggest that Bitcoin may seek another bullish cycle, though the timing remains speculative.

Investment Strategies for the Future

Given the current market conditions, prospective investors must navigate through a landscape heavily influenced by inflation fears and rising market volatility. While gold is touted as a key investment, sentiment towards other assets remains more cautious.

The Argument for the UK Market

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 7/8:

Interestingly, some analysts suggest a contrarian view, recommending investments in the UK market as a potential opportunity for growth. Following years of underperformance, there seems to be an opening for investors to capitalize on undervalued companies.

Takeaways for Investors

In wrapping up the discussion, key takeaways emphasize the ongoing need for investors to remain adaptable and attentive to market signals. The interplay of inflation, tariffs, geopolitical risks, and asset volatility will continue to shape investment decisions. Whether one looks to gold, the stock market, or other vehicles like cryptocurrency, the future landscape demands a careful evaluation of risk and reward.

Part 8/8:

With the confluence of various economic pressures, investors are encouraged to keep a close watch on market trends, adjusting their strategies as necessary to safeguard their positions in an ever-changing financial environment.

The partnership model can be lucrative. A16z’s billions under management generates sizable money management fees for the firm, in addition to profits made when its investments succeed.

However, Andreessen said he constantly reminds internal staff and limited partners that the company isn’t raising money just to harvest the fees. It’s to give the company the cash to invest in growing companies.

“When we go for scale, it’s because we think it’s necessary to support the kinds of companies we want to help our founders build,” he said.

The consortium, including Musk’s AI startup xAI, would withdraw its bid for OpenAI’s non-profit arm if it drops plans to become a for-profit entity, the billionaire’s lawyers said in a court filing on Wednesday.

“Two days ago, you filed a pleading in court adding new material conditions to the proposal. As a result of that filing, it is now apparent that your clients’ much publicized ‘bid’ is in fact not a bid at all,” the OpenAI board said, according to a letter signed by William Savitt, a lawyer representing the company, sent to Toberoff on Friday.

Other investors in the consortium include Valor Equity Partners, Baron Capital and Hollywood power broker Ari Emanuel.

Part 1/6:

The Current State of the Ukraine-Russia Conflict: An Analysis

The continuing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been marked by profound complexities and shifting dynamics. As discussions unfold regarding the potential for a peace deal, many observers express skepticism about the feasibility of negotiations, given the prevailing power dynamics on the battlefield.

Russian Advantage on the Battlefield

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 2/6:

One key argument posited is the superiority of the Russian military position as it stands. Analysts note that Russia is not only making advances on the ground but is also inflicting greater casualties on Ukrainian forces compared to those suffered by the Russians. This perception of strength has led many to conclude that Russia is currently in the driver's seat, with military capabilities that would support further territorial ambitions.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 3/6:

The notion of a negotiated settlement is increasingly viewed as elusive, especially as President Vladimir Putin’s demands seem insurmountable. Central to these demands is the requirement that Ukraine acknowledges the annexation of Crimea and other territories, a condition that would likely undermine Ukraine's sovereignty and is politically untenable for both Ukraine and its Western allies.

The Challenge of Diplomatic Solutions

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 4/6:

Former President Donald Trump has positioned himself as a potential mediator, suggesting that peace could be achieved through high tariffs and sanctions against Russia. However, this stance raises questions about its practicality. This analysis suggests that Trump's comments are somewhat detached from the realities of the situation; sanctions have largely already been applied by the Biden administration, limiting any potential economic leverage Trump might assert.

Furthermore, regardless of potential economic pressures, it remains doubtful that a weakened Russian economy would incentivize a capitulation. Russian leadership is committed to enduring significant sacrifices to secure its interests in Ukraine, viewing NATO's alignment with Ukraine as an existential threat.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 5/6:

Historical Context: Lessons from Syria

Discussions also traverse the historical context of Russian military interventions, particularly referencing their retreat in Syria. This comparison raises questions about Russia’s current resolve in Ukraine. In Syria, Russian and Iranian military support for the Assad regime faltered due to the degrading capabilities of the Syrian army, which contrasts starkly with Russia's current positioning and military readiness in Ukraine.

The consensus is that Russia's military in Ukraine is far more robust and determined. As the conflict has persisted, the Russian army has reportedly become more formidable, suggesting that their resolve remains unshaken despite existing setbacks.

Ultimately, as the conflict wears on, the prognosis for the future suggests a potential "frozen conflict" scenario rather than a comprehensive peace agreement. This would leave the door open for future hostilities, perpetuating a cycle of aggression that could erupt again at any time.

The challenges surrounding negotiations and the entrenched positions of both sides reflect a very grim picture for Ukraine, where both military and diplomatic avenues appear fraught with obstacles. The complexity of this conflict continues to pose difficult questions for all stakeholders involved, with the ongoing suffering and instability in Ukraine at the forefront of international concern.

The Emerging Global Trade War: Analyzing Trump's Tariff Strategies

As the specter of a potential global trade war looms larger, the economic policies championed by President Trump have elicited a mix of support and skepticism. Many analysts and economists have dubbed this situation as possibly the "dumbest trade war in history." With rising trade tensions and a web of tariffs affecting relationships with key trading partners such as China, Mexico, and Canada, it is essential to dissect the reasons behind these actions, their implications, and the reactions they incite both domestically and internationally.

Trump's Tariff Strategy

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 2/10:

In a bid to assert control over U.S. trade policy, President Trump has recently instituted a series of tariffs, starting with a hefty 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada, alongside a blanket 10% tariff on Chinese goods. Although the tariffs against Canada and Mexico were momentarily halted, the aggressive approach towards China remains intact.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 3/10:

These tariffs draw on specific legislative frameworks: Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 permits tariffs for national security reasons, while Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 allows tariffs in response to unfair trade practices. However, unfettered tariff imposition by the President requires Congressional approval, and a declaration of national emergency could grant temporary relief from this requirement. Trump’s assertions link tariffs to various national emergencies, including illegal immigration and drug trafficking, to create a narrative that justifies his actions.

Economic Impact of Tariffs

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 4/10:

Tariffs, essentially taxes on imports, raise the cost of foreign products for American businesses. For instance, a 25% tariff on Mexican avocados compels companies like Walmart to absorb the extra costs, which they inevitably pass on to American consumers. While designed to fix the U.S. trade deficit — a concept where imports exceed exports leading to economic vulnerabilities—such tariffs risk inflating prices. This rate of inflation could sour public sentiment against the administration since it increases the cost of living for everyday Americans.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 5/10:

Economists argue that while Trump aims to bolster domestic manufacturing and reduce trade deficits, imposing tariffs could backfire by provoking retaliation from affected countries. The existing trade deficit with China, for example, does not magically disappear; instead, it has the potential to shift to other low-cost countries such as Vietnam or Mexico, as companies look for cheaper manufacturing alternatives.

Diplomatic Consequences

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 6/10:

The diplomatic ramifications of these tariffs are critical yet often overlooked. Long-standing relationships with key allies, such as Canada and Australia, are jeopardized as tariffs heighten friction and prompt negative reactions. Amidst these tensions, even culturally significant moments, like sporting events, have reflected public apprehension towards the U.S. position, as evidenced by Canadian fans booing the American national anthem.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 7/10:

Furthermore, allies like Australia find themselves in a precarious situation; while they maintain strong ties with the U.S., tariffs on crucial resources such as steel could disrupt bilateral trade and push them towards other partnerships, including closer ties with China. This shift could diminish U.S. influence globally as countries find quality alternatives outside of American markets.

A Broader Economic Perspective

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 8/10:

Despite the intent behind Trump's tariffs—to fix trade imbalances and stimulate U.S. manufacturing—many economists remain skeptical about their efficacy. The tariffs could lead to increased costs of goods across various sectors from electronics to vehicles while failing to stimulate a revival in domestic production. The complexity of global supply chains means that American reliance on imported goods is difficult to unwind simply through tariffs.

As the trade landscape evolves, it is essential to consider if pursuing these aggressive tariff policies is in the best interest of the U.S. The President's approach could inadvertently reduce the country’s global influence while straining relationships with trading partners that are vital to economic stability.

Part 9/10:

Conclusion: A Nation at a Crossroads

In summary, as the Trump administration forges ahead with its tariff strategy, the potential consequences for U.S. consumers, honoring international alliances, and the broader economic landscape remain topics of heated debate. The objectives of improving America's strategic and financial position could very well lead to unintended consequences that ripple through the global economy. Stakeholders and citizens alike must remain vigilant as this scenario unfolds, weighing the short-term benefits against long-term ramifications.

Part 10/10:

As discussions in economic circles continue, one important takeaway emerges: finding a balance between protecting domestic interests and fostering positive international relationships is paramount as the U.S. navigates these turbulent waters.

Hesiod, like Homer, is known primarily for two long poems, his titles being Theogony and Works and Days. Theogony is one of the primary sources of Greek mythology, successful because it pulls many of the mythical stories together in a single narrative. One of the hallmarks of the work is that it asserts the authority of Zeus over all the Greek people rather than trying to establish a connection to a specific living dynastic line.

But you, Perses, listen to right and do not foster violence; for violence is bad for a poor man. [215] Even the prosperous cannot easily bear its burden, but is weighed down under it when he has fallen into delusion. The better path is to go by on the other side towards Justice; for Justice beats Outrage when she comes at length to the end of the race. But only when he has suffered does the fool learn this.

But for those who practice violence and cruel deeds far-seeing Zeus, the son of Cronos, ordains a punishment.

Marc Andreessen dreams of making a16z a lasting company, beyond partnerships

Many venture industry observers have wondered whether Andreessen Horowitz, a firm that manages $45 billion, has its sights on eventually becoming a publicly traded company.

Co-founder Marc Andreessen said he isn’t “chomping at the bit to take the firm public,” on this week’s Invest Like the Best podcast. But he discussed his goal of building a16z into an enduring company, drawing inspiration from JP Morgan and publicly traded private equity firms.

Historically, venture capital firms have been partnerships consisting of a “small tribe of people sitting in a room together, trying to bounce ideas off of each other when they make investments,” Andreessen said on the podcast.

The problem with the partnership model, he said, is that it’s highly dependent on the ideas and expertise of those people at the table with “no underlying asset value,” as he described it. Once the original partners retire, the firm loses a lot of its value, even if a new generation of investors takes over.

“But even if they can keep it going, there’s no underlying asset value. That next generation is just going to have to hand it off to the third generation,” he said. “That’s probably going to fail on the third generation. It’s going to be on Wikipedia someday: that firm existed, and then it went away.”

Part 2/8:

Tesla's stock experienced a drastic decline of 10 cents one day but managed to rise by 85 cents over the week. However, despite the volatility, many expressed skepticism about the company’s overall sales performance. Headlines suggesting that declining sales stemmed from Elon Musk's reputation or a waning public interest in Teslas were dissected. Instead, the conversation acknowledged external factors such as rising interest rates impacting the industry as a whole.

Amid these challenges, there was a consensus that the anticipation around the upcoming Model Y has created a delay in current purchasing decisions. The discussion highlighted how interest rates are influencing all automakers, not just Tesla, heavily impacting car sales and the broader retail sector.

Part 3/8:

The Macroeconomic Environment

The hosts touched on the broader economic situation, particularly the impact of ballooning interest rates on personal and corporate finances. As interest rates climb, consumers face the reality of increased costs across various sectors, significantly in housing and automotive markets. Interest rates, which haven’t been seen at these levels for some time, create budget constraints for families and businesses alike.

The show investigated the role of federal spending in this economic landscape, highlighting that despite the Biden Administration's intent to reduce spending, it has been accelerating instead. In this context, they discussed the U.S. government's ballooning deficit, which has far-reaching consequences for inflation and interest rates.

Part 4/8:

Addressing Government Spending

The conversation detailed the federal government's revenue and spending imbalance, emphasizing the importance of reducing expenditures. For instance, the reported $4.9 trillion in revenues against a staggering $6.75 trillion in expenditures has put a strain on the economy. It was asserted that cutting the deficit could directly lead to lower interest rates, thereby easing financial burdens nationwide.

Despite prior lessons on the dangers of excessive spending leading to deficits, the government has yet to make meaningful changes, inviting skepticism from the economic commentators.

The Bigger Picture: Interest Rates and the Housing Market

0
0
0.000
avatar

Part 5/8:

The arbitrary nature of familial budgets was discussed, especially how historically low-interest rates allowed for increased spending in real estate and automobiles. However, with rising rates, the financial landscape has shifted dramatically, forcing potential homebuyers and car owners to reevaluate their financial positions; a pendulum swing that could lead to a demand drop affecting both industries.

Moreover, the risk of large-scale changes affecting home sizes and types was raised, given that the current housing stock cannot easily be converted from larger homes to smaller, affordable options. Thus, the discussion underscored the importance of addressing interest rates directly as a means of stabilizing the economy.

Proposed Solutions: The Need for Strategic Cuts

Part 2/9:

Yet, while many of these technologies seem free to use beyond our time and attention, there lies an underlying cost: the energy consumed by the myriad devices involved in this digital dance. Every operation—each flip of a bit from zero to one—contributes to energy consumption, previously misunderstood to be trivial.

The Physics Behind Data Consumption

Part 3/9:

The underlying principle of energy consumption in computing can be traced back to the work of physicist Rolf Landauer, who in 1961 posited that every irreversible operation in computing—notably the manipulation or destruction of information—increases entropy, which is subsequently released as heat. This may sound insignificant, considering that the energy used to flip a bit of data is an infinitesimally small 2.9 x 10^-21 joules. However, the sheer volume of bits processed by modern computers—often in the billions or trillions per second—means that the cumulative energy expenses are monumental.

Part 4/9:

Take, for example, the contemporary Nvidia RTX 490 video card, capable of generating heat comparable to a small space heater, dissipating nearly 450 watts, not including the additional energy consumption from accompanying processors. Coupled with the existence of vast data centers—housing thousands of CPUs and GPUs—the cooling and air conditioning systems required to manage this heat output represent a significant logistically and financially challenging issue.

The Growing Energy Footprint of Data Centers and Services

Part 5/9:

According to 2023 reports, data centers in the United States consumed around 176 terawatt-hours of electricity, accounting for approximately 4.4% of total electricity generation. Projections suggest that this figure may escalate to between 6.7% and 12% by 2028. The trend is especially evident in areas like video streaming services, with platforms such as Netflix and YouTube contributing heavily to this consumption. Additionally, Bitcoin mining is emerging as a power-hungry activity, rivaling the electricity demands of entire countries.

AI technology, too, adds to the burden. In just a few years, AI's energy consumption is expected to surge, reflecting the historical increase in performance and power requirements of chips from manufacturers like Nvidia, Intel, and AMD.

A Quest for Efficiency: The Idea of Reversible Logic

Given these increasing demands for energy and heat management, a pivotal question arises: how can we sustain our growing appetite for technology without compromising the planet's energy resources? The concept of reversible logic computing may hold the key.

Proposed as early as the 1960s, reversible logic posits that if the inputs and outputs of a computational operation could be stored, the system might capitalize on the energy stored from previous operations to power subsequent ones. Such a system could potentially reduce power consumption by up to a thousandfold, dramatically lessening the environmental footprint of our computing needs.

Part 7/9:

This principle is akin to regenerative braking in electric vehicles, where energy is cycled back into the battery instead of being dissipated as waste. The development of quantum-inspired gates and adiabatic circuits could enable computers to operate almost with negligible energy costs, heralding a transformative shift in how we understand computing power.

The Future of Computing: Near-Zero Energy Processors

Part 8/9:

By 2025, an initiative involving US and UK research is expected to unveil processors designed to operate on near-zero energy consumption. This new technology aims to swap the high-performance, heat-generating cores we currently rely on for numerous low-power cores that produce minimal heat. While these innovations may face challenges in size and speed, the potential to adopt radically more efficient cooling techniques could revolutionize our approach to computational technology.

The intrigue surrounding these advancements extends to chip manufacturers, particularly as they contemplate applications within AI, which could further accentuate their relevance. If successful, the vision of our computers as mere processing units—rather than unintended space heaters—could become a reality.

LIGO to detect gravitational waves from 13 million light-years further with new device

While LIGO’s laser can currently reach 750 kilowatts, it needs to surpass one megawatt to achieve its full potential.

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, or LIGO, is one of the most powerful scientific equipment for detecting gravitational waves. Covering an area of 16 square kilometers, it also happens to be among the world’s largest scientific facilities.

However, there’s something that prevents this giant instrument from realizing its full potential.

Currently, LIGO’s laser power starts at 200 Watts, and with maximum amplification, it can go up to 750 kilowatts — but this is not enough. According to scientists, the LIGO laser must cross the one-megawatt level to accomplish desirable results.
