Technology is improving faster than anyone could regulate it... For example, AI is almost unregulatable right now. They did regulate ChatGPT, but there are thousands of alternative options that aren't.
Laws might not be that flexible in moving money in the air for a common man, these creedy politicians has a way of routing everything work for their own good.
$BTC has been the power house and I think every other coin follows its route. If there should be a wrong control of it then it's gonna affect others too.
When it comes to money be it from crypto or not, there is always a way of handling it which makes the promising information that will profit everyone be in a secret form.
The problem with Self-custody is that most people aren't prepared for it, and will never be prepared enough. For someone who doesn't want to think about privacy/safety in either direction:, Bank-like systems can actually be attractive!
Some people like custodial to have someone to blame if something happens and someone to demand fixing. But it works for those that are even under contracts for huge amounts, not for small holders that just the feed would eat their funds
if you have coins on hive you self custody because you own your keys. for example if you hold it on Binance they custody it for you as they can block you from accessing it for what ever reason.

There's many factors, that's why people get confused.
My easy way to explain, is to simply say, HIVE value varies, right? so look at it as you are getting X $HIVE from all the upvotes, but when the 7 days finish, 50% of that hive (in HBD value) is going to be sold for HBD and paid out.
Does this way make you understand why the value varies if constantly showed in HBD+HIVE ?
More Info Example so it makes more sense:
Imagine a post has 10 HBD in upvoted rewards, and its set to pay in 50/50% (HBD/HIVE). An lets say 2 HIVE = 1 HBD to simplify...
Then the calculation is, 10 / 2 (because author only receives half) = 5 HBD´
Then because the post is set to pay 50/50% in HBD/HIVE, and because the 2 HIVE is 1 HBD, the author receives, 2.5 HBD + 2.5 x 2 = 5 HIVE
In conclusion, you get 2.5 HBD + 5 HIVE from author rewards.

Usually, the other way around will not happen very frequently. Unless HIVE drops quite substantially, or there is some sort of peg that goes very low too...

if you have coins on hive you self custody because you own your keys. for example if you hold it on Binance they custody it for you as they can block you from accessing it for what ever reason.

There's many factors, that's why people get confused.
My easy way to explain, is to simply say, HIVE value varies, right? so look at it as you are getting X $HIVE from all the upvotes, but when the 7 days finish, 50% of that hive (in HBD value) is going to be sold for HBD and paid out.
Does this way make you understand why the value varies if constantly showed in HBD+HIVE ?
More Info Example so it makes more sense:
Imagine a post has 10 HBD in upvoted rewards, and its set to pay in 50/50% (HBD/HIVE). An lets say 2 HIVE = 1 HBD to simplify...
Then the calculation is, 10 / 2 (because author only receives half) = 5 HBD´
Then because the post is set to pay 50/50% in HBD/HIVE, and because the 2 HIVE is 1 HBD, the author receives, 2.5 HBD + 2.5 x 2 = 5 HIVE
In conclusion, you get 2.5 HBD + 5 HIVE from author rewards.

Usually, the other way around will not happen very frequently. Unless HIVE drops quite substantially, or there is some sort of peg that goes very low too...
But you can always withdraw it with https://uswap.app and use the moments of instability. Or the other way is to withdraw it via P2P.
It is very rare that it happens. And right now, I don't need to swap back to liquid Hive. Having some swap.hive makes it easier to pool to the atx pool 😁

Worked out at one of our favorite towns Mount Dora, had a vegan lunch there and walked around a bit. We are going to spend a couple of days in December like we have done the last few years but it’s always nice to get the Christmas feels when we pass through.
