48 Hours In America
Disclaimer....I've been in the states for a lot longer than 48 hours, but the point of this post are some things I observed within these first 2 days of being back.
Take a look at social media over the past few years and it's been a toxic waste dump...
Political rants, constant debates, violence, drama and just about every negative aspect of the human experience you could imagine.
Hey we had our own drama up in Canada too, but still in this day and age, especially in North America, we get force fed a lot of American news, gossip and scandal.
So when I was preparing to come back down to America for my job, I wasn't sure what I was going to find.
I really love this country. Being Canadian, we always have a soft spot for our neighbours to the south, but it's been more for me over the past few decades.
I owned businesses that were set up in America. I was down here all the time. When I travelled and vacationed, I usually ended up in the states. There's something about this country that I truly enjoy so over the past few years on social media....I was shocked at what I saw happening.
If you read the news, you'd think the country was on the brink of collapse. There were race wars happening daily. Shootings, violence, rape...You name it, America was a toxic waste dump according to the media...
But then you get here.
And in the first 48 hours here's what I witnessed....In a truck stop of all places.
Lots of hard working Americans. Driving trucks, tending to customers, serving food, taking pride in what they did for a living.
Working hard. But each of them, seemed to have a smile on their face. From ear to ear, you just couldn't help but notice it. Maybe it was the part of the country I was in, maybe not...
But what I think I witnessed was real world America that doesn't pay attention to the drama on social media. They are too busy working hard, serving others and adding value to the economy.
Now obviously, we aren't all living in a utopian society and there are plenty of issues in all countries around the globe....
However I tend to think a lot of this drama we see and read about on the news and media is not showcasing the real world that we all live in. And maybe, that's what we should focus on....Not the negative. Not the drama. But the amazing people that do make these countries operate day in and day out.
I sound like a politician LOL.
48 hours in and all I saw were good things!

I guess that you are actually sound totally opposite than politician ;D anyway. Yes, the way The Matrix shows the world on social media is always different. The good example I can say that media shows "3rd world" countries are full of crimes and mafias elsewhere. Yeah if you don't have common sense and you are going by yourself on hiking to the mountain or you walking at 1am than you basically asking to get robbed :)
Nothing ever happened to me for the last 4 years.
I mean, I know there are issues everywhere...But sometimes I think we attract the negative.
Sure. Agree 100%
Yep do what you love but also you have to voice out against a government that is constantly becoming more and more oppressive it's not a good thing I don't care what side you're on I think it's something we all should agree on before it gets too late.
I fully agree social media there's a large part of it that's a toxic waste dump. There's still good parts to be found though filled with helpful stuff and people helping people. But the ones that just constantly fight and talk trash in all this political stuff I call them sheep to the system. They must live some very unhappy lives. All media cares about is the negative, drama and fighting because it gets views. So why anyone still reads the news and believes in it honestly says something very special about that person and I honestly don't associate myself with such people.
This is where community, family and good friends build real strength and it's something many have lost sadly.
Agreed. And that's the beauty of democracy...At least we hope that's the benefit of it lol The ability to call it out! When we see it.
I do not think that we see the true lay of a land on the news. The news misinformes people. It is also a vehicle that furthers political goals by inflaming and enlarging issues in order to get a consensus.
I think that web3.0 will allow more peer to peer review of that is going on and where.
I live in South Africa. As it says on the news, 5 people died in riots a week back and that strike might happen any moment. I can tell you that our local grocery store ran out of bread and other goods and that factories and shops were low on staff because people could not get to work. It was bad.
But what do people really know about what is going on here based on the news?
And I think that's my point too...We (Canada / America) always think we have it so bad...I sure there are issues...But compared to the rest of the world...
I feel a lot of pandemic was made up using the social media. And it kind of reflected in the results. People can be generally good but social media, news and the politicians damage them. I guess the people who have money have means to manipulate our perceptions of other lands.
100000% agree!
I feared this would be another oh-what-a-troubled-country post, Jon 🫣
Good to hear that America is still there, working hard with a smile on its face. 💯
Good news is sometimes as scarce as Bitcoin these days and I am glad you brought some across! !LUV

I know, Jon. Just feared you might have have had some bad days in the US. 🫣
I am sure that the world is just running like usual but the media likes to make things seem more apparent everywhere. They need to get those clicks so they try to do whatever they can.
Exactly, the world keeps turning...Regardless of what we are supposed to be angry at these days lol
I agree completely. I’ve never lived anywhere but the U.S. And wherever I go, people are kind. Sometimes I think social media is the root of all evil. Just kidding. There’s lots of great stuff on social media too. But the news and social media portray a pretty depressing outlook!
I've really...Never had a bad experience in America and I've been here a ton.
It is no different in the other side of the world my friend. The worst year we have been experiencing so far.
Oh I could only imagine
We only get to see what the big news rooms want us to see, and even if we subscribe to news from social media the algorithms have been twisted to the same. Nothing beats seeing it with our own eyes and speaking to people on the ground
Yup, ain't that the truth!
I believe that we are what we subscribe to
We see so many sad news online and that is why I don't like to check the media for depressing news anymore
Well, it is good to be updated but it won't make sense to always feed myself with bad news all the time
Agreed. If we attract negative stuff and news, that's what we will see all the time.
We need to take social media with a grain of salt. It's about how people want to be seen rather than how they really are. People want to be seen as knowledgeable about the world, so they talk about what's in the news.
As for the news, scandal and crime are their bread and butter. They need to stir the pot to keep things interesting for their consumers. It's a reality show where the characters don't get paid.
It's an extremely distorted view of the world that filters out all the good. As media readership and viewership decline, you'll see more of a bad news frenzy to try to keep subscribers and viewers who eat this stuff up.
I truly believe, it's all a plan to divide and conquer. Make each other enemies and see what disasters mankind can create.
Yup. And as we saw recently with COVID, people in power grant themselves all kinds of power for "emergency use". Therefore, they need more emergencies to carry out their plans.
I suppose one sees what they want to see. !lol
When your in Canada you are in America. The influence from United States of America is overwhelming. Not just to their nearest neighbour but all over the world. Good and bad. Oh look, the platform thinks I mis-spelled neighbour. !fun

Not too mention the influence on date format and rejecting international standards of measures.
That's not true in my world but I suppose it is real to you or you would not say so...unless it is a reflection of your current environment. I follow a lot of world news, so yeah, there are countries that do not offer the freedom of choice we have in Canada.
Actually there are many parts that are collapsing. Or at least moving in the wrong direction for a progressive society.
Quality of anything is only as good as the weakest component. Call it drama, noise or whatever. One should not neglect the noise for in the noise is valuable data or at least how you address and not ignore noise is a sign of quality improvement.
What is obvious today, in USA, is that Trump and co-conspirators have and continue to make a mockery for some fundamental democratic values. You cannot present yourself as the best democracy and demonstrate otherwise.
To survive and succeed in this world you cannot ignore the obvious. We must never stop fighting for a free and equitable society. I live in a bilingual province and we have a Premier that is anti-bilingualism. Our Premier has been programed one way and cannot be re-programmed so that means a lot of unnecessary negative energy until he gets replaced with someone that is more forward thinking. Someone that is more respectful of differences. So USA drama is not unique to USA. What is most important is not to ignore the underlying issues driving the noise levels. I would have expected that Trump would have been replaced as the leader of the Grand Old Party. I know a lot of Republicans that are much more qualified as a leader but there is a lot of fear in the system because of corruption, brain washing, hate, short on respect for someone that has a different belief system.
!Luv and positive energy to all
God Bless America !alive

There’s a considerable difference between the poisonous vitriol on the television and Fakebook posts versus what everyday Americans are doing and experiencing. The cesspools that are Seattle, Portland and others are those hellscapes that the news purports. The vast majority of the rest of the country are normal folks working, putting one foot in front of the other and being generous and gracious to the people around them. That’s what I’ve observed over the recent few years. The enemedia, politicians and elites want people to think the world is falling apart at the seams so they can come in and control it all. The reality is that we are doing our best to hold it all together despite the pressure otherwise.
Keep on trucking man!
Yeah, I spent a lot of time in the mid-west, everyone seemed happy and hard working. Never any grumpy gus;'s lol

Welcome Back to America!!
Yeah, it's really not as bad as social media makees it out to be. Everywhere you go there is the good & the bad. Somtimes when I travel, I am often surprised at the greatness I experience in most places I've been. There are the bad things happening and it's the people that want to be seen that makes it worst. The medis & social media makes it out to be that America is soooo bad. It's not as portrayed, those things in the news & social media are happening, but it's the people who hype it up that makes it seem worst off then it is.
I'm one of the many that try to stay away from those things as much as possible. I don't boldly give my opinions, even if I agree. I hate all the drama. That's why I stay off of FB & the other sites cause I don't have time for all that crap. There are a lot of good people in this country and then there are the bad apples. It's just life!
You're a !PIMP who deserves a !HUG. Here's a little !CTP along with some !PIZZA & !BEER to wash it down!!
