When most people think of Siargao, surfing in Cloud 9, island hopping, and dramatic sunsets usually top the list. But tucked away in the southern part of the island lies a lesser-known escape that deserves a spot on your itinerary: The Maasin River. If you’re craving for calm waters, lush jungle vibes, and a moment to just breathe, this adventure is for you.

For just ₱600 per boat (good for up to 3 people), you get to enjoy a serene boat ride down the iconic Maasin River. Surrounded by towering coconut trees and rich greenery, it’s the kind of experience that makes you want to put your phone down—unless, of course, you’re snapping photos (and trust me, you’ll want to).

There used to be the famous bent coconut tree that hung over the river—a popular photo spot for travelers looking to capture that ultimate Siargao aesthetic. Sadly, the tree gave up to time and weather last year. But don’t worry, the charm of Maasin hasn’t faded. The river itself is still a photo-op haven, and the real treat comes at the end of the ride: the Secret Lagoon.

Tucked away at the end of the river, the Secret Lagoon lives up to its name. Hidden, calm, and with water that turns refreshingly cold—it’s the perfect spot for a relaxing dip. The area is shaded and quiet, surrounded by natural rock formations and jungle greens. You can even hop on a swing by the lagoon, a fun addition for both kids and adults, and another great spot for your OOTD shots.

Another thing I appreciated? The friendly guides who not only made the ride smooth but were also super helpful in taking photos. They knew all the right angles and were more than happy to assist—no awkward “Can you take our picture?” moments here!

And just when you think it can’t get any better, fresh fruit shakes await near the docking area. After a swim in cool water and a mini photo shoot, sipping on an ice-cold mango or watermelon shake under the palm trees just hits different. It’s the kind of simple indulgence that makes you fall even deeper in love with island life.

Whether you’re exploring Siargao with friends, a partner, or in my case, enjoying a peaceful escape with my friends, Maasin River is a must-do. It’s quiet, budget-friendly, and offers a different side of the island, one that’s peaceful, lush, and deeply rejuvenating.

Sassy Tip: Wear a flowy outfit, bring a waterproof pouch for your phone, and don’t forget to take that swing shot at the lagoon. You’ll thank me later.

So next time you plan your Siargao trip, make room in your itinerary for this hidden gem. Sometimes, the best adventures aren’t loud or wild, they’re the ones that let you slow down and simply be.

What a beautiful place, I fell in love with those crystal clear waters with blue reflections, they look like precious stones embedded in the bottom, it was what I liked the most. Greetings.
