Degrees in 2025: Still a Key, But to What Door?

In the past year, we have been told one single statement that makes us want to pursue the highest form of degree in a particular field of study, and that statement is
"Education is the Key, and the best legacy"

But it is sad to say that in my country, the key that education is meant to give you in your field of study might possibly not work for you in that field, but might open doors for you in another different area for you to be able to use it. Sometimes you have to learn and unlearn new things for you to be able to function in the society.

So the question of the worth of a degree in the current year we are living has been put on the table. Is a degree something one has to put so much effort and resources into? These are the questions that people are asking today, and we can't continue until we answer these questions.

Hello readers, and members of the Hivelearners community. Join me as we dissect this topic and shed more light on it.

In the past, having a degree was like having a golden ticket. It was the guarantee that you would be able to get a good job, live a good life, and make a name for yourself in society. But now, things are changing so fast. We live in a world where people without a degree are doing so well in business, in technology, and even in areas we never thought possible. The digital age has made it easy for people to learn skills online and use them to make money, while some with degrees are still searching for opportunities. This is where I say we have to unlearn and learn things we know if we want to make an impact.

But this does not mean that a degree is useless, because education still plays a big role in shaping our thinking, our confidence, and the way we see the world. Even if what you studied is not what you are using directly today, the discipline, exposure, and knowledge you gained will always show in the way you approach life.

An example is me as a person. I studied public administration in school, and when I was done, I worked as a technical and creative writer. Also, I manage projects, and one of the best parts of all this is that for you to excel in this new field, you need some skills of an administrator, and that is the course I studied.

So is getting a degree still worth it? The truth is, it depends on how you use it. If you see it only as a paper to get you a job, then you may be disappointed. But if you see it as a foundation, as a way to build yourself, then it is still worth every effort. Education is the foundation, and the degree you get is more like the first layer of that foundation for you to build something. You can either build on what you have, which is the degree, or build something different on the first layer. You have to be creative about it so the structure doesn't crumble.

Thanks for reading. My name is Fashtioluwa.

Education is the key, normally, but we have to attach extra efforts just to make our pursuits balanced. we have to learn at all times, but to some extent, we do not apply those fields of ours.

Those years when there were still good jobs out there, when there was guarantee of getting good jobs after school, that was when education was really golden like you've said,it's not like that anymore...
Everything has really changed sincerely, people are not looking forward to getting jobs anymore but creating ones for themselves and that's why some say "school na scam",in a way I won't agree less, but to me I still think education is really important no matter the outcome.

I feel you brother.
Yeah, the truth is that education or the degree isn't helping that much in the current word but there are some things you will go to school to learn that you can't learn anywhere so basically, educaution isn't a scam.
