Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Swamp Spitter's Repair is useful in range only matches

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles, with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Swamp Spitter for the repair ability.

Featured cards

Swamp Spitter is a water monster that costs 7 mana. It has the Repair ability at the start, and learns Giant Killer at level 6. Back when I could use this in modern, I used this card often, but I only use this card in brawls now. This card is great because the repair works well when combined with Kelya as a summoner or if there is a protect monster. If my opponent is focused on melee or ranged damage, that repair essentially absorbs one or two attacks a turn.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is Going the Distance, Healed Out, and Up to Eleven. This means that only ranged monsters can be used, healing abilities are not effective, and counter damage is increased. There is also 44 mana available, and I can use fire, water, earth, or life splinter.

Swamp Spitter75thRepair
Sultry Barmaid56thAmbush and Stun
Total Mana:42

I use Kelya Frendul as my summoner for the +1 armor and speed. I have Gargoya Devil as my tank because it has flying and close range. After that are the rest of my ranged monsters, some of them have snipe and other abilities such as double strike. In my 5th spot is Swamp Spitter for its abilities. My last monster is Sultry Barmaid, and this was a monster that I wanted to make sure was in my lineup for the ambush and stun.

My plan is to have Gargoya Devil as my first tank because it can attack from the first spot. The rest of my monsters can't, so I have the higher health monsters up front as backup tanks while the rest of my team focuses on damage. The repair will help my team survive longer, and my last monster is able to get an extra attack in. If the stun lands, then it can also remove one monster from attacking (if it can attack).

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match could go either way because my opponent has the level advantage. He also has a supply runner with swiftness, so it balances out my speed increase from my summoner.

Round 4

round 4.png
My opponent and I were trading blows, but I managed to win out because of that repair. It kept my tank monsters alive longer, and I was able to dodge quite a few attacks in the first few rounds to reduce the damage taken. This lets me take out my opponent's monsters faster than mine.

I ended up winning this match a few rounds later.

Conclusion

The battle this time did play out as I planned, but I wasn't expecting to win this match because of that level disadvantage. I think that Gargoya Devil worked out well to dodge a few attacks, and this let the rest of my monsters deal more damage. At the same time, the repair from Swamp Spitter kept the rest of my monsters alive. Many things worked out for me to win this match, and I am ultimately happy to see that my plan worked out to overcome that level and the damage advantage that my opponent had.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Yea. I think it's great. I don't have it with that ability, but I think it would be good in the higher leagues.
