Want a Vote?
Contrary to popular opinion, I do vote manually, but only if I have the time. Time is a rare commodity, and when you are getting older, you do realise that you don't have much of it left. We all have to die at some point.
Many of you know I run a Python driven voting bot, and currently there are 681 other accounts white-listed. I run it twice a day, as I am not going to keep my computer running 24/7; electricity is far too expensive, and if you know what MTBF is, then that's also a factor for hardware.
Whenever I run the bot, it creates a log file so I can see what's going on. I rarely view these files, but a few days ago I did just that.
593 of the 681 accounts do not have a valid post to vote on. This means that over the last 24 hours, those accounts have not created a post. If they had, then there are strenuous conditions I create for the valid ones to get even a small vote.
Typically it's the usual suspects who get the lion's share, people I trust to create something decent. The bot can't figure out that your 700-word masterpiece is the word 'ASS' 700 times, but HIVE being what it is, someone will notice very quickly and that account will be handed to @hivewatchers to be dealt with.
It's been a while since I created a post such as this, but I am looking for new candidates to add to my whitelist. I don't proclaim I am anything special, but at almost 370,000HP, I have a decent whack of HIVE and don't want to use it on all the same users daily.
I just ran the bot, and this is a view I get only too often. All the accounts have been checked, but I still have voting power left. This is one of the reasons for this post.
I am mostly interested in Gaming, Personal Stories and Urban Exploring. If you write any of this content and it's not AI-created or bullshit, then I might even follow you.
'Does this person just want to take, or will they give something back?' That's a huge criteria point in my mind.
Now I am feeling like a pretentious whale, and I don't want to come over that way. I am a humble person, and simply want to give my vote to the truly worthy.
If you would like to get votes from me, please drop me a comment. I don't use AI for screening new applicants. I look at many things, including KE, quality of work, quality of comments, delegations, power-downs, but most importantly, my spidey-senses take priority.
If I decide to add you, then I will let you know in the form of a comment. I would love my whitelist to breach over 1000 accounts. Here’s hoping…

A vote depends on passing the checks I have put in place, and if your name is randomly picked. There's nothing to lose, you get votes, could be small or large and I get curation rewards.

I'm not telling you how to use your own account, but the first step I take is to run an account through the test bot as it has many fail critera, and although it fails on the one shown (that could easily be fixed), it may also fail some of the later ones. Perhaps I should modify it so it shows all of them, at least for these purposes.
I do vote Actifit content, so long as it's not just a 'shove it out' post. 400 words as I recall, to qualify. I did say I was choosey.

Interesting thing is there doesn't appear to be any onramp 'handbook' handed out for newbies i'm aware of, (especially if onboarded on ones own), that could indicate lots of helpful ground rules like the self voting.. Definitely came across the proper imagery sourcing rules somewhere on my travels which is 100%, AI stuff too.
By all means if you can spare the time go for max visibility on your ruleset to help indicate the higher path of participation on Hive.. be very interesting to obtain the view of one who has been around for so long.. :)
Yes, there isn't a user handbook, and if someone writes one, it can quickly become dated. I did some posts years ago, and some of the info may be relevant but some definately is not.
With the current value of HIVE, everyone is pissed off here, so don't expect a new version soon. We just need to ride it out, the downturn.

Yes, it really help speed things up. The first iteration of it, I did by hand as that was before AI showed up, then I redid it using Chat and it's a LOT better now. Don't expect AI to get it all right, you still need to be able to code to polish the edges.

As a freshman on Hive, I will be marking exactly one year on 27/07/2026. What do you suggest regarding my delegations? Should I remove them entirely or just reduce the HP assigned?
The reason I delegated in the first place was simply to increase my HP, which I then reinvested back into the system.I would really appreciate your advice on this, Sir. 🙏
You delegation is mostly to @ecency and while that's fine, it limits what you can do with your VP, and gives someone else the power over that delegated sum. I favour making my own decisions, but that's up to you. You will get the same back, if you use your own VP.

Delegation doesn't reduce your Voting Power. Since Ecency returns back 100% curation reward back to delegators, you get back your curation reward in liquid HIVE form instead of Hive Power (staked HIVE) if you were to curate maximum effort yourself. There is no lost either case, just convenience and trust. If you would like to vote yourself fully and sure you will be actively curating content, yes keeping HP to your own account makes sense. If you are not sure you can curate everyday actively then delegating will be more effective.
FYI: Ecency returns 100% curation reward back in liquid HIVE there is no cut.

I have found with my @tenkminnows account that it is not finding enough posts to vote on. I just use the peakd auto-vote so I need to find more people to add to that, but my criteria are different to yours. I use some HiveSQL queries to find candidates. Most of my own votes are still manual.

More recently, I have started to post more as compared to previous months. And tbh, I am enjoying it. Though, the curation reward varies from post-to-post, and with bare minimum replies on my posts, I think I have been doing well. Powering down? I guess, I haven't done it once by far. I just don't like to power-down, maybe once I have crossed the 100,000 staking, then I will think about it. Goal is to stay here for a long-term, and support the whole general cause of the community.
I do love to share my reflections on things such as politics, philosophical aspects, random-thoughts, idealistic beliefs and anything that comes to mind.
And yes, there is a dream: I want to post more about games. But, due to lack of time, and this heat waves, my laptop cannot bear it. Maybe, in the winter season, I will focus more on that spectrum than contests.

Ecency is forced to discontinue services due to lack of funds. Except to see issues.
With the current sentiment about the DAO, my vote wont make a difference. When you say discontinue, I hope you don't mean Ecency is closing shop?
Definitely not closing. But if GK is forced to take on work outside of Hive, Ecency will become a weekend hobby project for him. Ecency has discontinued full node, and is now forced to rely on more unstable public nodes. I expect the user experience may be less reliable.

Sadly I don't think that I can qualify for this. A lot of my content is either a post with just one photo of my own art( or paint by numbers set I am coloring at that moment) with maybe a few sentences describing my progress. My gaming posts may qualify. But I just returned to gaming after few months of hiatus. I don't plan to leave gaming again soon. Few days ago I wrote a post mentioning my future gaming plans. I have a few let's plays I still need to finish. And a few more I want to buy in the future. But it is still possible that I will go on a gaming hiatus again.
No recent posts, and some of them won't qualify but others will. Use a few more paragraphs breaks, it makes for easier reading. Added.

That attitude depends on where you live. When I lived in the rural midwest, and now in the rural pacific northwest, there is a sense of trust tempered by some reserve. Whenever I have been in larger towns or cities, that trust seems less evident.

I might as well throw my name in. I post mostly fiction and photography, but lately I've been writing a few personal stories for the Silver Bloggers Chronicles. I'm doing a fiction serial every Wednesday in Scholar and Scribe for about 30 more weeks; beyond that I post as often as I can. It's not public data, and the only way is to search the python variable list they are all members of.

The problem with all automatic voting bots is the same: the people who receive the upvote take advantage of the opportunity to slack off on the quality of their posts. I don't blame you, I would do the exact same thing; I would automate votes for those I consider to have a valuable contribution.
Despite that, it is painful to see how there are whales who don’t make the distinction you are making, so I congratulate you for trying to correct it. Sometimes, you compete with creators who, by virtue of being on an automatic voting list, post a single selfie with a single paragraph of text. That is when you feel this platform has a lot to fix, because those types of cases are no accident.
I have left Hive several times for different reasons—my life has been complicated—but one of them is precisely seeing that automatic votes are wasted on content creators who don't put in the slightest effort. This leaves those of us who do feel like quality isn't taken into account, and that the lottery is simply more effective.
Speaking of what you mentioned, I joined YouTube precisely with an urban exploration channel around Venezuela, thinking I wouldn't run into obstacles. Twice, unfairly, they demonetized the account I work on without any explanation, because it was a bot that randomly selected thousands of creators worldwide to strip them of their AdSense accounts. In other words, the lottery exists over there too.
It was because of the YouTube issue—which I know I will resolve once I figure out what I did wrong—and also because of the recent earthquake in Venezuela, that I returned to this platform. In my brief journeys through this ecosystem looking for content, I unfortunately see those kinds of posts with a woman's selfie and a brief text carrying an automatic vote. I know it's a bot because, in my mind, there is no way those creators could earn a payout for such a brief publication. I hope they correct it, because that drains the value of what Hive.blog is meant to be.
It is good to read that despite your limited time—as I agree it is our most valuable asset as we get older—you are trying to amend these oversights to clean up our platform. Greetings and blessings.
