Too good to be true

It was a cool evening, just after dinner, when I received a call. I wasn't familiar with the voice, but it sounded like someone who knew me well.

"Hello, sister Glory. your job application has been approved. you can start on monday, but before then, there are some papers you need to sign. we'll also need your passport ".

Deep down, I knew I hadn't submitted any job application. though I was jobless at the moment. Could it be a miracle job? "so i thought"

"But sir, who are you, and how did you get my number " i asked.

"Your pastor referred you to us, and your qualifications fits our expectations"he said

The moment i heard it was my pastor who referred me, joy filledmy heart. I tried as much as possible to keep my voice steady, i didn't want to embarrass myself or my pastor.

"What's the job offer, sir" i asked.

"The job isn't hard, you just need to report to any government school near your house and supervise the food been cooked for the children. Your duty is simply to taste the food and ensure it taste nice. You won't be cooking. It only takes 2 hrs of your time daily. You'll be paid 5,000 naira every day (about 3.2hbd)"
He explained

That sounded too good to be true. I've never heard of such an easy job with such high pay. Even hard labours doesn't earn that much for just two hours. I started to **smell a rat ** but still, I told myself:, if it wasn't real, my pastor wouldn't have referred me.
I stayed quiet and continued listening.

"You just need to send us your remaining informations and your passport. The form cost just 20 thousand, we have just two slot left. Other people are calling and begging for that position but we reserved one for you just because of your pastor

Ah ha, I definitely smell a rat here, everything about this offer sounded too sweet and pleasing.
First, am expected to pay 20 thousand upfront for a job that pays more than 100 thousand a month. Second, the man hadn't met me in person, yet he was willing to preserve a slot for me. thirdly, if my pastor had referred me,he would've informed me himself.

At this point, I knew I had to end the call, But not without placing my own clever offer.

"Sir, I'm really interested in the job and I'm ready to pay. but the only problem is, i don't have data to open my app and make the payment. Can you send me 2GB data plan, so I can quickly open my transfer app and transfer the money" i said.

What happened next was strange, he got suddenly ended the call. maybe he was angry. Or maybe he ended the call, expecting me to call back, thinking i was desperate.

I didn't call him back.
As expected, he called back in the morning but i didn't bother picking up. A real hiring manager wouldn't chase after an applicant like that

Later that day, i called my pastor and he assured me that nothing of such transpired between him and anyone

It’s simple to be enticed by appealing deals during tough times. However, occasionally the wisest choice is to reject such offers.
