Three Tunes Tuesday - Farewell
Although I had been wanting to participate in this #TTT organized by @ablaze for some time, I hadn't had the opportunity. Finally, here I am! I would have liked to start with something more cheerful, but since November there have been three very sad pieces of news for the music scene in Venezuela. Three singers who marked a true milestone in my country's music have passed away. One in the field of national rock and the other two in traditional Venezuelan music. I would like to dedicate today's space to them.
Aunque tenía tiempo con ganas de participar en este #TTT convocado por @ablaze, no se me había dado la oportunidad. ¡Finalmente estoy aquí! Y hubiera querido empezar con algo más alegre, pero de noviembre para acá se han producido tres noticias muy tristes para la movida musical en Venezuela. Tres partidas físicas de cantantes que marcaron un verdadero hito en la música en mi país. Uno en el ámbito del rock nacional y los otros dos en la música tradicional venezolana. A ellos quiero dedicar este espacio de hoy.
Jorge Chapellín - Los 007
Although his name is not so well known, his voice could be recognized by any Venezuelan, as he was the lead singer of the group Los 007, which was one of the most important bands of the 1960s.
They recorded a Spanish version of Wayne Cochran's song “Last Kiss”(El Último Beso), which became a classic that is still played today.
The band was founded in 1965 and was active for five years. After many years, the group began performing again, and it was surprising that Jorge Chapellín's voice remained intact.
On November 15, at the age of 79, he said goodbye to us and left a deep mark.
Aunque su nombre no es tan conocido, su voz podía ser reconocida por cualquier venezolano, pues fue el solista principal de la agrupación Los 007, que fue una de las más importantes en los años 60.
Ellos grabaron una versión de la canción de Wayne Cochran, "Last Kiss" (El Último Beso), en español, que se convirtió en un clásico que aún hoy en día sigue sonando.
La banda se fundó en 1965 y estuvo activa cinco años. Luego de muchísimos años el grupo empezó a presentarse de nuevo y sorprendió que Jorge Chapellín seguía manteniendo su timbre de voz intacto.
El 15 de noviembre, a los 79 años, se despidió de nosotros y deja una huella profunda.
Hernán Marín
Joropo originated in Venezuela, in the eastern part of the country, where the first city on the continent was founded after the arrival of the Spanish. Joropo originated in the same region where Hernán Marín, a singer-songwriter from Cumaná, was born. For this reason, he was completely drawn to this music, becoming one of the greatest performers of music from the eastern part of the country, especially eastern joropo.
He had many successes, both as a singer and as a composer. But without a doubt, the song that had the most impact was Canta y Baila Joropo, a joropo he wrote that expresses all the strength and spirit of this musical form.
On November 22 (paradoxically, Musician's Day), Hernán Marín left us, but he also left behind a vast repertoire that will continue to be heard throughout time.
El joropo nació en Venezuela, en el oriente del país, donde surgió la primera ciudad del continente, luego de la llegada de los españoles. El joropo nace en la misma región donde nació Hernán Marín, cantautor cumanés. Por esa misma razón su inclinación hacia esa música fue total, uno de los máximos intérpretes de la música del oriente del país y en especial del joropo oriental.
Fueron muchos sus éxitos, tanto como cantante como compositor. Pero sin duda, la canción con la que más trascendencia tuvo fue Canta y Baila Joropo, un joropo de su autoría que expresa toda la fuerza y el espíritu de esa forma musical.
El 22 de noviembre (paradójicamente, el Día del Músico), Hernán Marín nos dejó y también dejó un vasto repertorio que seguirá sonando a lo largo del tiempo.
Enemecio Sánchez "El Gabán Tacateño"
Joropo originated in the east of the country, but spread throughout the national territory and acquired its own characteristics in each region. In the central part of the country, it developed into what is known by names such as “Golpe Tuyero,” “Joropo Central,” and many others. The most important characteristic of this variety is that it only uses the harp (with metal strings) and a singer who plays the maracas at the same time.
One of the most prominent singers in this variant has been Enemesio Sánchez, better known in the music world as El Gabán Tacateño.
El Gabán has been one of the greatest exponents of this genre, in which he has also composed countless songs. With my group Los Cañoneros, we recorded his song Un Canto para Caracas. But the most successful song of his career was “El Baile del Pesca'o.”
On December 6, at the age of 86, he said goodbye to us, leaving a void in a musical genre that refuses to die.
El joropo nació en el oriente del país, pero se fue esparciendo por todo el territorio nacional y en cada región adquirió características propias. En la zona del centro del país se desarrolló lo que se conoce con nombres como "Golpe Tuyero", "Joropo Central" y muchos más. La característica más importante de esta variedad s que solo se usa el arpa (con cuerdas de metal) y un cantante que toca las maracas al mismo tiempo.
En esa variante uno de los cantantes más destacados ha sido Enemesio Sánchez, mejor conocido en el plano musical como El Gabán Tacateño.
El Gabán ha sido uno de los máximos exponentes de este género, en el cual también ha compuesto infinidad de canciones. Con mi grupo Los Cañoneros llegamos a grabar su canción Un Canto para Caracas. Pero la canción de más éxito en su carrera fue la llamada "El Baile del Pesca'o".
El 6 de diciembre, a sus 86 años, se despidió de nosotros, dejando un vacío en un género musical que se niega a moriri.

This Venezuelan rock band reminds me of my older brothers. I like 007 and their songs “El último beso” and “Detén la noche.” Jorge Chapelli had a beautiful voice that made you fall in love. He has left his mark on the history of music in Venezuela.

As for Hernán Marín, I like all his songs. I didn't have the opportunity to get to know Gabán Tacateño's music.
All three have left a legacy and deserve the tribute you are paying them today.
