Although I had not participated for several weeks, for some time I had the idea of singing the song that I bring today. It is a beautiful song by a Cuban composer, Sindo Garay -a born poet- who left countless musical gems. Among them, this one entitled Perla Marina.

I had the idea of doing it without accompaniment, with pure voice, but I also wanted to write the arrangement for four voices. I had never done such an arrangement before, let alone for a single singer.

However, when I started recording, I decided to include the guides and even though I recorded all the voices, I liked the sound of the guides as background, rather than the voices alone. So, in order not to lose all the vocals I recorded, I left them in the background.

For me it is a very sweet song, but with a lot of strength at the same time. As for the original meter of the song, there are those who say that it is a bolero, so its meter would be 4x4. But there are also those who claim that it is a waltz, that is to say, a 3x4. This last variant was the one I knew, when I was almost a child, and it was the time signature I chose for my participation this week in Vibes Web3 Music Competition, week 33.

Aunque tenía varias semanas sin participar, desde hace tiempo tenía la idea de cantar la canción que traigo hoy. Se trata de una bellísima canción de un compositor cubano, Sindo Garay —un poeta nato— que dejó infinidad de joyas musicales. Entre ellas, esta que lleva por título Perla Marina.

Tenía la idea de hacerlo sin acompañamiento, a pura voz, pero también quería escribir el arreglo para cuatro voces. Nunca había hecho un arreglo así y menos aún para un solo cantante.

Sin embargo, al empezar la grabación, decidí incluir las guías y aunque grabé todas las voces, me gustaba más el sonido de las guías como fondo, que las voces solas. Así que, para no perder todas las voces que grabé, las dejé al fondo.

Para mí se trata de una canción muy dulce, pero con mucha fuerza, al mismo tiempo. En cuanto a la métrica original de la canción, hay quienes afirman que se trata de un bolero, por lo que su compás sería de 4x4. Pero también hay quienes afirman que se trata de un vals, es decir, a 3x4. Esta última variante fue la que conocí yo, cuando era casi un niño, y fue el compás que escogí para mi participación de esta semana en Vibes Web3 Music Competition, semana 33.
