CoinGecko Added $HBD to Stablecoins List and Algorithmic Stablecoins List at My Request
The thing started when I read The Rise of Dark Stablecoins Like HBD by @taskmaster4450 and decided to talk to ChatGPT in order to learn how visible $HBD was for this AI. First, I asked it to give me examples of stablecoins. ChatGPT didn't mention $HBD within 30 examples. Then, I asked it to tell me about "dark stablecoins", and once again, $HBD wasn't mentioned.
I was surprised by that since $HBD's market capitalization isn't actually tiny. So, I decided to check how well $HBD was ranked on Coingecko's list of stablecoins, and found nothing. As it turned out, $HBD wasn’t listed under any categories on CoinGecko:
That was on May 13, 2025 - no $HBD:
And that's May 15, 2025, after Coingecko reacted to my request:
Check it out in Coingecko's stablecoin category. #65 in the list.
😎🥂
It actually took less than 1 day for Coingecko. I sent them a request, having named myself "a community member" and used @dalz's post for reasoning the request:
Next day, it was approved:
I asked them to add $HBD to categories Stablecoins and Algorithmic stablecoins, as you see above.
$HBD stands #3 on Algorithmic stablecoins:
Being at the very top of anything is great for visibility, including visibility for AI.
Coingecko also decided to add $HBD into USD stablecoins category. So, $HBD has appeared in 3 categories:
It would be good if Coingecko had another category - something about censor-resistant stablecoins or "dark stablecoins". And here I am returning to what I started with, a post The Rise of Dark Stablecoins Like HBD by @taskmaster4450:
Young Ju stated that as today’s stablecoins become regulated, they will lose the allure that has led many to use them as a substitute for the U.S. dollar... ...giving rise to dark stablecoins that could satisfy different use cases.
Young Ju explains that dark stablecoins can be programmed in two different ways: using algorithms to maintain the U.S. dollar peg, although most of these stablecoins (including TerraUSD) have failed before; and using stablecoins issued by countries that don’t censor financial transactions.
This is what is meant by "dark stablecoins". HBD resides on the base layer of the blockchain. It is not run by a company, overlaying it on different networks. Instead, the block validators approve any transactions, the same as any other blockchain. There is no group or individual behind the coin.
How it operates is dictated by the code. It is programmed in and can only be changed through consensus of the block validators. There is no KYC or AML. Sanctions cannot be applied.
Inspiring for Hive, right? 😎
What About AI and $HBD?
CoinGecko is one of the top sources for AI to learn about crypto. But Coingecko alone isn't enough. Coinmarketcap is a must, too.
Info on CEX is important either. Upbit.com (here) and Indonesian Upbit (here) are the only CEX trading $HBD. They generated only 7$ 24h trade volume today which is displayed on $HBD pages both on Coingecko and Coinmarketcap:
Very low 24h trading volume makes $HBD look a dead token. This goes to lists of CoinGecko stablecoins too:
😒
Neither CoinGecko nor Coinmarketcap track Hive exchanges, and I have no idea how to change it. @dalz, maybe you know?.. Would be good to have neat $HBD pages both on CoinGecko and Coinmarketcap...
It's great that you managed to get HBD added to coingecko. Didn't know it was possible to get it added.
Well done! 🙌
It was listed on Coingecko but it wasn't added to crypto lists by categories. It means people who never knew about HBD had a low chance to find it. Like, the news said:
So if someone wants to see a list of such stablecoin, they ll find HBD in Algorithmic Stablecoins where HBD is #3. 😎
Excellent! I wouldn't have thought HBD isn't listed on coin aggregators as a stablecoin. Is seems it's not listed on CMC either, but that's JS' site, so who knows if it would work the same way?
I couldn't believe my eyes too 😄 But Hivers pay attention mostly to $HIVE, not $HBD. Like, $HIVE has categories:
Okay, Layer 1, it was me who requested CoinGecko to add this category 😀 in January 2024. But I remember $HIVE already categories SocialFi and Gaming Blockchain at that time. So somebody did this work.
I don't know. I'll try but they write that you need to pay money in some cases for submitting info on CMC - here. Looks it won't be for free but I'll try.
Great work!
Well Done!
The power of a decentralised community where people take the initiative to improve things.
Thank you!
Thanks to CoinGecko for their democratic approach: I sent the request as an anonymous community member; the team researched my suggestions and edited the information for free. That's genuinely friendly to decentralized blockchains.
Thank you, you bring real value to hive with your initiatives. Visibility on platforms like CoinGecko and Coinmarketcap is a must for good blockchains - you are great!

When I asked Grok to sort the algo stable coins by reliability, HBD came as well as Top3!

😎 It means the change has started being implemented after the update.
But I couldn't repeat this. I even asked Grok top 20 - "sort the algo stable coins by reliability, give top 20" - and there was no HBD in top 20.
But Grok is quite open about sources (though ChatGPT either):
Another proof how important Coingecko is. Pro-Hive articles on crypto platforms are a must too.
In first try Grok didn´t find it either, but then I asked it "why HBD is missing" and it corrected it´s answer :)
AIs are like this, people-pleasers 😄
I asked Grok "what algo stablecoin has the third largest market capitalization on coingecko?" and even this didn't help him to name HBD :D They need time, and more food for their weird pseudo minds, lol.
Awesome work yo!
Very good for visibility! Did you try ask chatgpt now see if it catches hbd now?
I think the volume is low because you can't really take hbd out of hive, you can only withdraw hive, so it doesn't have access to internal dex
!PIZZA
ChatGPT probably needs time - it doesn't have up-to-date info. Here, a question leading ChatGPT to HBD without provoking it to please me by mentioning HBD:
What is special about this answer?
Even without HBD, Alchemix isn't the 2nd. Thus, ChatGPT has outdated info and needs time.
No matter when ChatGPT finds this change, we need more mentions of HBD to make it more visible for AI.
That's true, then people will get curious to see what's that hbd

never knew upbit is TRADING HBD I think with this visibility it wil give more exchangers opinion to list HBD
The trading volume isn't large but the fact that $HBD is available outside of Hive is inspiring. People don't like joining blockchains to trade, they want assets available on CEXs. Upbit has 8/10 trust on coingecko, #34 on the list - not bad.
hmmmmm i see absolutely
Coingecko has refused for years to use the internal market for volume and price.
Perhaps you can suggest that to them.
The lack of volume is from using outside sources for data on what is happening in our market that largely takes place internally.
I will try. We are also going to have Altera by @vsc.network. Maybe, this will help.

Great one!
Glad I can help.
About the trading volume on the Hive DEX, as far as I'm awere, there is no official API endpoint that shows this. But I might be wrong. Maybe some of the frontends, PeakD or Ecency have one. I also know @mahdiyari build a frontedn DEX. So I'm pinging him as well.
Eventualy I can build one if in dire need :) and give it that to Coingecko.
When I built https://hivedex.io I also made proper APIs targeted towards both coingecko and cmc according to their documentations. In order to have the HIVE/HBD volume tracked, they first needed an exchange to be listed. So hivedex.io had to be listed for them to track hive/hbd. I did build all the APIs and they didn't list anything. I remember crimsonclad also following up which resulted in nothing.
I did remove the old APIs I built for them in favor of a more decentralized API which is hosted on both of the following:
https://hafsql-api.mahdiyari.info/#tag/market
https://rpc.mahdiyari.info/hafsql/#tag/market
The above API is a complete market API and should satisfy any listing.
Amazing! Thanks.
cc @x-rain
Thank you, @dalz and @mahdiyari, now everything is much clearer to me.
I asked Coingecko's AI about requirements for listing DEXs and that's what it answered:
For DEX (Spot) listings on CoinGecko, public API documentation is not mandatory if integration can be achieved through the factory and router address. However, if these addresses are not available, you must provide public API documentation when submitting a request.(1)
For DEX (Derivatives), public API documentation is mandatory.(1)
Some additional requirements:
To submit a listing request, you'll need to fill out CoinGecko's Request Form.(1)
For trading pairs to be visible:
Probably, this point "The listing must fulfill CoinGecko's internal set of criteria (these criteria are not disclosed)" is the key. I'll research what it might be - time of existence, list of tokens from other blockchains, interface requirements, trading volume, etc.
Fantastic. If I talk to their support, I'll have these APIs to show.
This is a fantastic initiative! Thank you for advocating for $HBD and raising its visibility in the crypto space. It's amazing how individual action—like your request to CoinGecko can lead to meaningful impact for the Hive community. Great job!
Yes, and that's a great pleasure when your humble effort helps the community. Thank you!
Nicely done

You've done a great job. well done!
Great work @x-rain, and well done on taking the initiative on behalf of the community!
Seems like Hive sometimes is in a bit of a dilemma: We're decentralized and deserve greater visibility, but in order to have greater visibility so we can grow, we have to forge more relationships with CEXs... who are skeptical/reluctant of us because we're decentralized.
Reminds me of the old college dilemma: You have to have experience in order to get the job, but you can't GET experence unless you HAVE the job.
=^..^=
Yup. If we were bigger (even remaining decentralized), we would have better visibility on CEX. And to become bigger, we need CEX.
It's serious but not critical, I believe. Hope we'll find a workaround.
Thanks for your initiative! It will have better visibility. Great work!
Aunque no entiendo de esto me parece que es un logro importante, muy bueno su esfuerzo
I'm kind of a numpty when it comes to these sorts of things but since I have always just kept my HBD "in house" so to speak, I've never even investigated anywhere that it could be traded. I think there was an exchange called ionomy but they ended up ripping a bunch of people off if memory serves me right.
Never heard about it...
We'll get a Hive DEX soon - Altera - trading top cryptocurrencies for HBD and back - I wrote them on Discord - they are going to add their DEX to Coingecko DEX list. If they success, the whole problem "Very low 24h trading volume" will be solved.
