Praetoria (Land 1.5) Tutorial for Beginners
This tutorial is made possible due to Maverick's Server which is accessible for those who have purchased at least 1,000 Booster Packs directly from @splinterlands shop. Mavericks are the biggest financial supporters of the development of the game and I happen to be one of them. This provides me access to sneak peaks and features before rest of the community get to try them out. If you would like to learn more about the game and related topics, SplinterGlossary can be a valuable source of knowledge.
I had already tried out Land 1.5 updates in Maverick's Server before. I didn't have the access to my assets. Instead I was forced to be a Whales among Whales with astronomical amount of assets. It was a special experience that also end up being somewhat exhausting.
Real Assets Were Copied 3 Days Ago
The Maverick's Server has a snapshot of what you used to own 3 days ago. I have unclaimed Daily Quest Rewards, but I am unable to claim them. Playing Battles and opening Reward Chests is not the primary aim of being on this test server. I don't see this as a problem at all. There is a very limited amount of resources developers have after being beaten down in during the bear market.
What I can do on The Maverick's Server is what I can do 28th when Land 1.5 is released to the public. In other words, this is an opportunity to practice the first few interactions of the launch of the next phase in Praetoria gameplay. In fact this is the first time we have serous gameplay in Praetoria.
Even SPS governance material were copied to Maverick's Server. I am not going to explore any of these. I am already doing a satisfying job on the main server.
57 Plots Across 12 Regions
I would like to start with Pandon Reach mainly because of @ecoinstant and the community that is being built there. I have a Legendary Plot, 2 Magical Plots and 3 Occupied Plots. But I want to start by supporting my friends. We have to think about the long term. I don't know how things would work out in the other Regions. I know that Pandon Reach has a plan. Teamwork will be a bigger part as we progress with more updates to the game.
The UI/UX is intuitive and gamers should be generally okay with finding their way around. There is a "Getting Started" checklist and it is easy to guess what "Manage" does.
I have made 2 "Building in a Box" purchases allowing me to get started very easily. I do not have to buy a Power Core for 5,000 DEC. I will eventually have to burn 275,000 DEC for 55 Plots as I do not own any Runi at the moment.
The selection process of Cards to be used on the Plot is easy with all the necessary details are presented in an easy to digest format. I feel great about not spending too much time on spreadsheets to figure out the best strategies. The decision making process is made easy by employing good UI design. The creative team did an excellent job.
Click on a slot and click on the Card you want to add to the slot. Do not worry about the upper row of empty slots. It is there because the Plot does not have Power Core, Workers, Title or Artifact at start. When you want to make changes, the UI makes it easy to compare the existing selection against the changes you are planning for.
Claim Your Totems
What you gained after the Land Presale were "claims"; not the real Totems that are part of the game. You must redeem your fungible Tokens similar to how you redeemed your Land Deeds.
It is a very quick process and I recommend you take care of this step before starting to assign Workers to Plot. The UI makes it easy to find and make the claims even if you had forgotten this step.
Produce In Game Resources
Most of the resources produced in Praetoria will likely be Tokens such as DEC that is tradable by users. This is ownership of more in game assets and taking control of your own game economy. There are very few projects even in Web 3 that have done anything close to what Praetoria is doing.
There is one final confirmation as these changes are not to be taken lightly. It is not possible to change course on a whim and switch gears. That would only benefit bots who can constantly monitor and spam @splinterlands servers.
Building Worksites
Grain Farm: Grain Farms produce enchanted grain, which is critical to the Praetorian economy. Feed it to your workers to keep them productive, trade it for other resources.
Shard Mine: Excavate valuable Splintershards (SPS) from Shard Mines. SPS is a governance token with numerous utilities, such as granting bonuses to rewards earned during ranked play.
Research Hut: Investigate, discover, and document findings at Research Huts. Increase your prestige within the League of Verico as you race to uncover the secrets of Praetoria!
Time Crystals is what I was most interested when I was Surveying Plots. They are very versatile and they came very useful at this step of the game. My biggest bottleneck is the utter lack of DEC in my account.
I can construct many Buildings instantly with the Time Crystals I own. The problems is staking enough DEC per each Region. Without the necessary amount of DEC staked, the Plots will not produce resources at the full capacity.
Grain Will Be a Constant Necessity
1 Grain is sold for 1 DEC by the game. Eventually there should be markets where players are selling Grain at a cheaper price. Communities could even decide to help each other. If you have only 1 Plot in a Region, it might be better suited as a Grain Farm until more options become available.
Checking Out Other Plots
Occupied and Magical Plots offer 100% bonus to SPS earnings and Secret of Praetoria Research respectively. There is little reason to even focus on Common and Rare Natural Plots if you can help it. There simply isn't enough resources to optimize Praetoria gameplay!
Another factor to keep in mind is the diminishing returns due to Cards being used up in the game. I plan to continue playing Battles. I will not be able to use many of my best Cards for gaining Production Points.
I don't plan to overthink optimizations either. After trying out Land 1.5 gameplay on Maverick's Server, I have a fairly good idea on what I want to be doing. I know what I lack and I know what the best things to focus are. Balancing Cards for Battles vs Praetoria would be a difficult undertaking. I am only a Dolphin and I will have to be satisfied with utilizing only a small fraction of the full potential of the 57 Plots I own.
Time Crystals Was A Good Investment IMHO
Getting an early start on the game can be very valuable. Time Crystals offer the most flexible way to achieve this. You have control over where and when to spend your Time Crystals. I used up 21,000 DEC worth Time Crystals in Pandon Reach. I got these at a discount.
If you have a different strategy, feel free to share your knowledge. There are many paths to success. I have not spent hundreds of hours into figuring out all the inner workings of Praetoria. If my decisions are 80% as productive as the best decision, I can be happy. If you are completely new to @splinterlands, get started here and see if it is worth your investment. We were once the world's #1 DAPP based on the amount of Daily Active Users. We have not lost the potential to be #1 again.
Happy Gaming! Happy Investing!
