Words never said

David had just be released from prison after being wrongly accused. His wife and children stood beside him through those tough times.
It's been two months since his release and everything at home felt off. It seemed as if His wife was now a little distant from him and he wondered why.
His assets were seized before he went to jail and from something he went down to zero in just a twinkle of an eye. His time in the prison made him see life in a different way and His family observed how much he had changed.
Though His wife fought for him and believed his innocence, her cold attitude towards him was a concern. He wondered if it was because he was now poor and she was the one taking care of the bills.
"My love, did I do anything to hurt you? He asked for the millionth time.
"No, I'm just fine. There's nothing wrong." Her response for the millionth time.
That situation where a woman won't say a word but deep down the both of them knew something was wrong. It was very frustrating but he couldn't even express it the way it worried him.
His wife was the closest person to him. She had held the home while he left. She endued the scrutiny, jest and shame but regardless she stood strong by him.
She had to work time and time again to provide for their two kids, pay the rents, their school fees, clothing's, feeding and even support him while he was in jail.
He felt bad that he wasnt providing but with his wife acting the way she did, he felt worse. Because he felt him not doing anything was pissing her off.
One afternoon as he sat on the couch scrolling through the channels, he stumbled on a tv station although it wasn't his regular pick but he decided to sit there.
The movie was about a young boy who had nothing to support himself after his high school. He couldn't further his education to the tertiary level so he started hawking on the road side to get enough to fee himself and his grandmother.
To make matters worse, he lost his grandmother and was all alone. Having no where to go or run to, he decided to continue doing the only thing he knew how to, which was hawking.
One day while he was on about his business, he found a girl just wondering about as if she was lost so he did the right thing and helped the girl find her mom.
The woman so grateful decided to give him a job in her home as a cleaner.
The woman later found out that he had interest in competing his education and decided to train him through school.
On the day of his graduation, the young boy came back home to the woman on his knees with tears in his eyes and told her a heartfelt thank you. He appreciated her for the kindness. The woman also couldn't control herself as she joined him crying.
David sat quietly watching the movie till it came to an end.
He stood up went to the kitchen and prepared something delicious. As his wife stepped into the house as usual she walked straight to her room. David invited her out to the dinning table.
She stepped out seeing dishes on the table. It was all her favourite food on the table. She was a little bit worried.
"What's going on here?" She asked as she fixed her eyes on the table with a little smile on her face. It was obvious she was fighting the smiles from breaking out.
"Sit down, babe." David said as he pulled the chair out for her to sit.
She sat quietly but the surprise looks was still on her face.
"I just noticed that since I came back from jail, I haven't said this words to you. 'Thank you'. My love thank you. I know it hasn't been easy on you carrying the whole family alone but you have done that all this while. He believed me and never doubted my innocence. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you."
Julian couldn't control herself as she started crying uncontrollably. Finally she felt seen. She felt that her husband was seeing her. All along her silence was never about him not supporting it was about her feeling unseen. Like she wasn't doing enough.
Thank you for being a helper to me. You never gave up on me.

STOPI can relate to the silence. That silence that tells there is obviously a pro lem but you don't know what it is and the two party involve keeps on acting like there is nothing wrong.
I'm glad he had the insight to appreciate her. Being the bread winner of a family can be very tasking.
it's a nice story, thanks for sharing
Communication is the most vital part of a relationship. David's wife didn't really do her best expressing herself but I'm glad David saw this and took charge. Bearing the burnt of his actions for so long isn't an easy task though, so yeah, I wouldn't blame her. I'm glad they both sat down and reasoned out things. A peaceful ending I must say
Yeah communication is key
A moving story of personal triumph over adversity. He found help where he least expected it, These are the surprises that life has in store for us.
Thanks for sharing your story with us.
Good day.
I keep saying this, communication helps a relationship survive the test of time. Let me know what or how you feel. I'm no mind reader
