The unfortune cookie

Mission accomplished guys...
"Meet you guys at the usual spot, bills on me" the captain shouted as the whole team hailed him.

Classy spot had always been their favourite hangout maybe because the owner of the bar was the captains wife.
You know the saying"business is fun, when family patronises and pays."

The whole division always came on Friday nights or whenever they weren't on duty. That has been marked as their spot. Civilians also loved the place because with cops there, no fights and security was assured too. This made business good for Mrs. Donovan who was the captain's wife.

Everyone who knew the cap knew that he hated injustice and loved it when everyone got what they deserved. The governor had twice acknowledged Chase city as the most peaceful city, which meant that the captain and the mayor got the praise.

This particular friday evening, the team had nailed a case they've been working on for months and to commemorate the achievement Cap decided to take the team on a treat.

Every other hangout the cap just joins his wife on the counter and serves drinks to help clear the numerous customers who troop into the bar. This friday wasn't any different, but this time the guys insisted that the cap must play a drinking game with them. After much persuasion and a nudge from his wife, he gave in.

To prove to them that he was a boss he chugged down one full glass of tequilla and was still standing and sober. The guys hailed him and while he was walking back to his duty post for the night to help his beautiful wife.

A young girl walked up to him with a cookie jar in hand and handed it over to him. The fact that a little girl was in a bar was strange, but the fact that it was only two cookies that were left in the jar didn't go unnoticed.

So he decided to just have extra fun, he picked one of the cookies and it read "THE FIRM GRIP OF THE PAST CREEPS EVEN INTO THE SOUL."

He thought it was just a prank, he looked around the guys were still distracted with their drinks and his wife still serving drinks to some cops seated at the counter.

He decided to see the second cookie and it read "WE KNOW WHAT YOU DID 20 YEARS AGO." The look on the caps face suddenly changed and he immediately ran outside the bar to see if he would get a glimpse of the little girl.

His eyes scanned around and he couldn't find the little girl. He immediately walked into the bar and started looking around to see if he would find any suspicious person.

"Hey, Donovan what are you doing there? This drinks ain't going to mix themselves." Brenda his wife voiced.

The Cap's mood suddenly changed that night. Who would have known that the self righteous Captain would have a secret he wanted buried. What could that be? And the fact that the message read "we" meant they were more than one.

After everyone had left the bar and it was just Donovan and Brenda. She observed that his countenance had changed and she asked "hey babe, what was in the cookie jar? I noticed after you saw what was written, your mood changed, you know our one and most important rule."

"No secrets" they voiced together.

After a little pause Donovan told his wife what was in the cookie jar and she was also alarmed because what happened 20 years ago was meant to stay hidden for ever. Donovan had told Brenda about it because she was the only person he could talk to and won't be judged.

You think someone knows about how you framed Ceasar "Morris?" She asked.

"I think so." He replied.

"Babe, you know it had to be done that evil man was a rapist, he raped an 11 year old girl and 14 year old girl and killed them. He deserved to go." She said rubbing her hands through his hair.

"B, the evidence against him was destroyed just a day before his court day, i had to do something if not he would walk free and who knows if he had walked free how many little girls would have been raped and killed now. I had to frame him with another evidence i made up" Cap defended.

I know that babe and i think everyone else will understand this but we are not going to allow this asshole blackmail us, promise? She asked.

Promise" he replied.

The next day cap walked into the precinct and all the guys shouted "Happy anniversary"

One of the officers walked forward and presented him with a flower.

*Twenty years. Do they all know what i did twenty years ago? *

He was really afraid when his deputy voiced.

We sent the cookie jar yesterday. The guys and i wanted to make it more scary and we saw the look on your face. Cap, we know that you don't keep track of all these but its been twenty years since you were transferred to this precinct and you have done hell of a good job that you've fashioned 70 percent of us in your image.

The guys gave him a heavy clap and Donovan didn't even notice the fact that he was crying. What he thought was for his downfall was actually a recognition for an excellent leadership.
