Oops, i didn't mean it
"I hate it when Mr. Reuben make us do this." Kathy said.
Nothing makes kids angry than when you fix your lecture class on a holiday period. This was meant to be a time when the clique would hang out at their usual spot which always happened to be Desmonds house.
I guess they loved it because Mrs. Kelz enjoyed their presence and she always had a million ways to show it. Sometimes she would order chicken pizza and two bottles of coca cola. Most times she would bake, this was their favourite.
She owned a bakery house which had come up with different recipes for meatpie, chicken pie, sharwamah, Doughnuts, king roll, fish roll just to mention but a few. Her bakery house was really popular in the city, if not the biggest.
You know kids and sweets are inseparable, and Mrs. Kelz always indulged their cravings.
The clique of four had protested during an unfair treatment of a student which made them miss an important test in class. As much as this pissed off their parents, they also couldn't help being proud of their kids for standing up to injustice but missing a test was too much though.
Mr. Reuben their home room teacher was lenient enough to grant them another opportunity to resit the test but he gave his conditions.
"Desmond, Ruth, Kathy, and you Joshua, you guys must apologise for disturbing the peace of the teachers and your fellow students" Mr. Reuben said.
"And how are we going to do that sir?" Joshua asked
"Oh, boy, if you had just waited just for another 30 seconds i would have said it without your lame question." Mr. Reuben replied. "I am going to have a class with you guys tomorrow." He said grinning because he knew too well that he just stroke a nerve. Kids love doing nothing and I'm going to take that happiness away.
He was right that really hit a nerve and kathy didn't hide that fact. Her face showed the discomfort. But they knew they caused trouble already and weren't going to add to it. Their parents were happy they voiced their displeasure but they also didn't fail to register their discomfort with the method they used to voice their pain.
Mr. Reuben walked out of the classroom shoulders high. Since he had been transferred and promoted as a homeroom teacher, this particular clique had made him a regular customer to the principals office and other teachers were now doubting his abilities, if the promotion were well suited for him or if the management was too hasty in making that decision.
He knew too well that the holidays tomorrow, almost every kid had a list of things they would do for fun. He was also sure the four kids had theirs and to make them feel just a tiny bit of pain he had been going through he decided to take that fun away even though he would also be inconvenienced. A necessary sacrifice. He hoped he would strike a huge punch to them with this act.
All he had to do now was look for how he would take up the whole of their fun time without obstructing his. He decided that the class will be held online.
"You guys, I'm so sure you know how to use a laptop, they class is going to be on telegram or WhatsApp, if you must write my test, you must attend that class"
** The kids had all arranged to meet at Desmond's, so they would also have fun while they had their annoying lectures.**
Seem they had a plan of theirs too. Now we are going to watch who the fight will favour.
They were having pizza with coca cola this time while the lecture was going on.
Mr. Reuben had been talking for close to an hour and thirty minutes and from the way the class was going he was making a move to give them a classwork or better still house work which they would submit to him in an hour time.
Wow, he was ready for them. And he had series of assignments he had drafted out. "The test will be written next week", he highlighted.
"What about now? Why don't you use one of the assignments spot to give us the test" Desmond pleaded.
"I know too well, you guys are going to copy yourselves and that would be unfair to the other kids." He replied "Now submit this assignment in an hour time." He added before touching the mute button.
"These kids are so dumb, they think I'm going to take their rubbish today" he sighed "oh God, i hate them so much"
Oops, the mute button wasn't touched, just the video record button. He noticed that and was struck in between. The kids had heard what he said and were not happy at all. If they reported him, he could lose his job.
"Uhmm, i thought i was on mute, i didn't mean any of the things i said" he said. They could hear the fear in his voice. I guess his evil plans had just bitten him on his ass.
"I'm sorry did you say something sir?" Kathy said.
"Did you hear what i said 30 seconds ago?" Mr. Reuben asked.
"No, we didn't." Desmond replied.
Mr. Reuben clicked the mute button and made sure this time it was on and he shouted "thank Goodness." He was so relieved.
"I think Mr. Reuben is an asshole." Kathy said
"People like him should be out of jobs, i wonder why that gave a dumb person like him a promotion." Joshua added.
What!!!! What did you guys just say now? Mr. Reuben had heard everything from the other side of the call.
"Oops, we thought we hit the mute button." Ruth voiced.
There was a huge silence from the other end. Mr. Reuben was speechless.
"Hello, Mr Reuben can you hear us, hello, are you still there?" Ruth said
