"My eyes are always on you." This silence was palpable. For the first time in forever Mary Delgado wasn't in control of a conversation. She always dated football captains and dumped them whenever she was bored or when they start becoming clingy. So your guess is as good as mine, she was never in love, had never been in love and always focused on her tiktok followers than on her relationships.

Why? Mary asked, the only word she could form after the long silence. Her eyes glued on him, thoughts swirling through her mind. "Do you mean you have a crush on me?" She added.

"You are really pretty, i know every guy in school probably thinks that but they don't see it because your character stops them from seeing that" Raul said with so much boldness not giving a damn what she would say or do. "Okay with that out there, i think i have to head out, its already quite late and i have a book to summarise" he added getting up and headed staright to the door.

"Wait! Are you not forgetting something?" Mary asked. "You came here to get something from your locker" she added.

Raul paused with his hand already on the door knob "yeah, i just figured out I'm still good for tonight without it."
"Wait!" She said for the second time. "Sorry, but do you have a car?" She asked. "If you do, can i disturb you a little for a ride" she added.

The ride was really a silent one. Raul had to sneak Mary out of the school premises because Julia and Bestlyn were still looking for her and she didn't want to talk to anyone.
"As i live and breathe, i never thought i would spend time with you like this, i always had something better in mind but this wasn't close to it" Raul said trying to break the unusual silence.
"So, what did you imagine our first encounter to be and why the hell did you not meet me to tell me you liked me"? Mary asked. She definitely didn't imagine herself asking a guy this question but just in 30 minutes she had forgotten she was heart broken that her crush on Billy was one-sided.

"Uhmmmm, which should i answer first? Raul asked. "I would have never met you if a chance didn't show up like this because i actually love being in the shadows. If i had told you that i liked you, you would have embarrassed me or maybe upload my sorry ass on your tiktok page and in 20 minutes i would become a laughing stock. So, yeah it seemed wise to keep it to myself."

"No, I'm not that bad." Mary interjected.

"Yeah, tell that to the 7th guy you did it to, I wasn't going to be the 8th" Raul said with a smile. Mary didn't fail to observe how good looking he was as he drove with only one of his hands on the steering wheel and even in the dark car he still looked very good which made her wonder what he would look like in the day time.

"So, why did you tell me now?" Mary asked.

He smiled again "I'm sorry for saying this, but you were vulnerable and you weren't with your phone, so anything i say to you will remain with us and not on tiltok."
Mary couldn't help but laugh out loud. She really did have a good laugh with that.

"I heard you say you were going to summarise your book, so are you a writer?" Mary asked.
Raul gave a surprised look, waved his head in unbelief. "Wow, wow this is really strange".

"What is?" Mary asked.

"I never knew you were actually paying attention to me. And.... Yeah, I'm a writer. I'm into the boring stuffs, I'm a boring guy that's why I've not been in the public radar." Raul said.

"No, i think, you are cool... I..i...i mean you being a writer is cool" Mary stuttered.

"Yeah i know writing is cool, but Mary Delgado will rather date the soccer team captain or my cousin Billy who brought the win home. Right?" Raul asked.

Mary in shock as she heard Billy and Raul were related. "Billy's your cousin?" She asked.

"Yeah, i know you are probably wondering why he is more good looking, athletic and popular while me on the other hand just opposite of him, right?" Raul asked with smiles on his face expecting Mary to concur with his remarks.

"Yeah, you are not wrong, and not totally right either. Billy is more popular, more athletic but i think you are way more handsome." She said with so much seriousness that Wiped out the smile from Raul's face and left him with a puzzled look.

"I think by tomorrow when you must have come to your senses you will hate yourself for giving me this much attention. So to make sure you don't hate me much, i will stop the conversation here and speaking of ending the conversation we are already at your house"

Mary got down from Raul's truck, she couldn't believe the fact that she felt so relieved after talking to a strange guy she just met and what are the chances that he was also Billy's cousin. "He really gets me and doesn't give a damn about who i am, i think that's why I'm just comfortable around him." She thought to herself.

"Hey, can i get your number. You know so we could hangout when you are free. I'm just saying i really wanted to hear more about your book so i think hanging out with you could buy us some time to talk....

"Give me your phone." Raul interrupts. "When ever you want someone to talk to give me a call and i will come running."

"Thank you Raul" she said as she made her way into her house.
"Who the hell is this guy? I can't believe i already feel like spending time with him again." She thought to herself as she saved his number on her device.
When should i call him? Is tomorrow good? I think its too soon. But it's weekend already and no school so it would be a good hangout time and i can get to know him.
Oh my God, i already want to know him... I think I'm in trouble.
