Hello everyone, fellow Hive players. On this special occasion, I want to introduce you to a rather unusual and uncommon video game, but one that excels in story, graphics, and gameplay. I'm talking about Dead Cells. I hope you enjoy it.

The protagonist isn't your typical archetype; you're a mass of cells, or a homolusc, inhabiting the corpse of a decapitated warrior, and your main objective is to escape The Island. However, the price of dying each time is that your host body disintegrates, and you must return to the sewers to acquire a new one. The Island's main story tells of a once peaceful kingdom, but a plague called the Malaise arrived, mutating all the inhabitants into violent, frenzied, and deranged beings. The king, in a desperate attempt to stop the plague, implemented brutal quarantines for the few remaining citizens, which ultimately led to the collapse of society.

El protagonista no es el típico arquetipo de siempre; eres una masa de células o un homolusco que habita el cadáver de un guerrero decapitado, y tu objetivo principal es escapar de La Isla donde te encuentras. Sin embargo, el precio de morir cada vez es que tu cuerpo anfitrión se desintegra y debes regresar a las cloacas para conseguir un nuevo cuerpo. La historia principal de La Isla narra que anteriormente era un reino de paz, pero llegó una plaga llamada el malestar que hizo que todos los habitantes del reino mutaran hasta convertirse en seres violentos, frenéticos y enloquecidos. El rey, en un intento desesperado por frenar la plaga, implementó cuarentenas brutales para los pocos ciudadanos que quedaban, lo que terminó por colapsar la sociedad.

Everything changes as you venture into the kingdom. For example, as you pass through places like the clock tower and the castle, you realize your mission shifts from escaping the island to killing the king. You discover the island is trapped in an endless time loop, set in motion by the Timekeeper under the king's orders to prevent the plague and unrest from spreading further. So your new mission is to kill the king to put an end to this madness.

Todo cambia a medida que te aventuras en el reino. Por ejemplo, al pasar por lugares como la torre del reloj y el castillo, te das cuenta de que tu misión pasa de escapar de la isla a matar al rey. Descubres que la isla se encuentra en un bucle indeterminado de saltos en el tiempo, instaurado por la guardiana del tiempo bajo órdenes del rey, para evitar que la plaga y el malestar continúen esparciéndose por la isla. A minor spoiler: if you almost complete the game on extreme difficulty, you'll discover all the game's glitches and realize you're the king. Your mission is to eliminate your own body and take control of it to stop the madness you started in the first place—quite shocking, but true.

Un pequeño spoiler: si casi completas el juego en dificultad extrema, descubrirás todos los errores del videojuego y te darás cuenta de que eres el rey. Tu misión es eliminar tu propio cuerpo y tomar control de él para detener la locura que tú mismo iniciaste al principio, algo bastante impactante pero cierto.

I highly recommend this game because it challenges numerous stereotypes of adventure and hero video games. The time travel and cinematic storytelling are presented in innovative ways. When I played it, I never imagined that the simple cell inhabiting the body of a dead warrior was, in fact, the king himself, only without memory and in an alternate timeline to his experiences on the island. The full truth and the game's true ending are only unlocked by completing all the missions on the highest difficulty, which adds a whole new dimension to the game's dynamics. Furthermore, all the game's landscapes are simply beautiful.

Recomiendo encarecidamente este juego porque desafía numerosos estereotipos de videojuegos de aventuras y héroes. Los saltos en el tiempo y la narrativa cinematográfica se cuentan de maneras innovadoras. Cuando lo jugué, nunca imaginé que esa simple célula que habitaba en el cuerpo de un guerrero muerto era, en realidad, el mismísimo rey, solo que sin memoria y en una línea de tiempo alterna a lo que había vivido en la isla. Toda la verdad y el final auténtico del juego solo se desbloquean si completas todas las misiones en la dificultad más alta, lo que añade 100 puntos a la dinámica del videojuego en sí. Además, todos los paisajes del juego son simplemente hermosos.
