To be A Man

When growing up, still under the guidance of my parents, I didn't really have much to worry about. Everything I needed was taken care of. I didn't know anything about taking up responsibilities, aside from minor ones like house chores and running errands. I could spend almost a whole day watching movies or playing with my friends. But right now I can't do that.

As much as I am scared and reluctant to admit it, I am now gradually turning into a man, and that comes with real-life responsibilities. I remember when I was still a kid and I was being called little a boy, I hated hearing people calling me that. I was envious of people who were being addressed as men. That's how I wanted people to see me. Oh, how I couldn't wait to be a man.

But right now...I am more than willing to wait. I began to realize that being a man comes with responsibilities, having the ability to make tough choices and face life head-on when it throws punches at you. This reminds me of a song by one of the finest artistes I've ever come across, Dax. To be a man is very inspiring song I relate with all the time.

Being a man is not based on one's gender but based on one's role in the society, which is not an easy one. Those times I used to depend on my parents now comes to a close. Reverse is now the case; I am now the one who has to take up responsibilities over them. I also have to younger siblings who also look up to me in some areas.
