Palestra spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan from Atalanta, and it turned out to be an important season for his development. He featured in 37 matches for side Cagliari, showing consistency and maturity well beyond his age. Along the way, he chipped in with a goal and four assists, proving he can as well contribute going forward.
This is not the first time his name has appeared in transfer rumours. Earlier reports linked him with a move to Inter Milan, but nothing materialized. One of the main reasons was Atalanta's valuation of the player. The club reportedly wanted around €40 million, a figure that was considered too high by potential suitors.
To be fair, Atalanta's stance makes sense. Over the years, they have developed a reputation for identifying talented youngsters and helping them reach the next level. If they believe Palestra has the potential to become a top defender, they are unlikely to let him go for cheap.
The interest from Chelsea and Manchester City is another sign that his performances have not yet gone unnoticed. Both clubs have invested heavily in young talent in recent years, often looking beyond established stars and focusing on players who can grow into important figures over time.
