Back in February 2004, feeling overworked and unhappy, there was a plan to escape to Costa Rica for a month in March to learn Spanish and relax, aiming to recharge.

However, a friend knowledgeable about Central America mentioned that Costa Rica's rainy season was about to start. Seeking sunnier skies, the focus shifted to Spain for four weeks.
With Spain's proximity to other enticing destinations, the idea of an extended journey took shape.
The concept of a "reasonable" vacation was soon abandoned in favor of a three-month adventure to connect with Scandinavian heritage, following the initial time in Spain.
The notion was that any impending issues would surface in the first month, making an extended trip no riskier. Three months sounded perfect.
Ultimately, that trip expanded to 15 months, sparking the idea of spreading out the typical 20–30-year retirement throughout life, rather than saving it all for the end.
