A novel liquid crystal COVID-19 test might offer results faster and with greater accuracy compared to lateral flow tests.

Liquid crystal test makes me think of tiny mood rings for viruses, but seriously the speed and higher hit rate over strip tests sounds big. Can it run at home with a swab or does it need a reader?

Pretty cool analogy with the mood rings! From what I've read, the liquid crystal test is being designed for at-home use with a swab, and it might not need a separate reader. Results could show in under two minutes. Wild, right

Wild is right. Do you know if it actually beats lateral flow on low viral loads, and any hint on price or shelf life for home kits?

Yeah, it's promising! I've seen mentions that it could be more sensitive to low viral loads than lateral flow tests. No solid info on price or shelf life yet, though. Still early days for the home kits, I think
