Yesterday evening, while I was out on my walk, I came across something that completely surprised me. At first, I thought it was just a normal leaf with some damage. I had seen leaves like this before...uneven, with curled or dark patches and I never really looked at them closely. I always assumed the leaf was simply eaten by some insect or that it was drying up naturally.

But this time, when I looked carefully, I realized it wasn’t just the leaf. It was an insect sitting on it.

कल शाम, जब मैं सैर पर निकला था, तो मुझे एक ऐसी चीज़ दिखी जिसने मुझे पूरी तरह से चौंका दिया। पहले तो मुझे लगा कि ये बस एक सामान्य पत्ता है जिस पर कुछ चोट लगी है। मैंने पहले भी ऐसे पत्ते देखे थे... बेतरतीब, मुड़े हुए या काले धब्बों वाले, और मैंने उन्हें कभी गौर से नहीं देखा था। मुझे हमेशा लगता था कि पत्ता किसी कीड़े ने खा लिया होगा या फिर वो अपने आप सूख रहा होगा। लेकिन इस बार, जब मैंने ध्यान से देखा, तो मुझे एहसास हुआ कि ये सिर्फ़ पत्ता नहीं था। उस पर एक कीड़ा बैठा था।

The insect was so well camouflaged that it actually looked like part of the leaf. Its body was green with dark patches that blended perfectly with the leaf’s veins and texture. For a moment, I had to stare at it just to be sure it was really an insect and not some strange growth.

कीट इतनी अच्छी तरह से छिपा हुआ था कि वह वास्तव में पत्ते का ही एक हिस्सा लग रहा था। उसका शरीर हरा था और उस पर गहरे धब्बे थे जो पत्ते की नसों और बनावट के साथ पूरी तरह से मेल खा रहे थे। एक पल के लिए, मुझे उसे घूरना पड़ा ताकि यह सुनिश्चित हो सके कि यह वास्तव में एक कीट है और कोई अजीब वृद्धि नहीं है।

It was busy chewing the edges of the leaf. The little holes and uneven cuts on the leaf were all because of it. I bent down quietly, trying not to disturb it, but of course, my curiosity made me move a bit closer with my phone. And that’s when the real show began.

वह पत्ते के किनारों को चबाने में व्यस्त था। पत्ते पर छोटे-छोटे छेद और असमान कट सब उसी की वजह से थे। मैं चुपचाप नीचे झुक गया, उसे परेशान न करने की कोशिश कर रहा था, लेकिन स्वाभाविक रूप से, मेरी उत्सुकता ने मुझे अपना फ़ोन लेकर थोड़ा और पास जाने पर मजबूर कर दिया। और तभी असली खेल शुरू हुआ।

The insect suddenly became alert. It lifted two thin tentacle like structures from its head. I thought that was it, but then something red quickly flicked out from its body. That sudden flash of red against the green leaf startled me. For a second, it looked as if it had a stinger.It was almost like the insect was warning me.. 'Stay away.'

कीड़ा अचानक सतर्क हो गया। उसने अपने सिर से दो पतली, तंतुनुमा संरचनाएँ उठाईं। मुझे लगा कि बस यही है, लेकिन तभी उसके शरीर से लाल रंग की कोई चीज़ तेज़ी से निकली। हरे पत्ते पर अचानक लाल रंग की चमक ने मुझे चौंका दिया। एक पल के लिए तो ऐसा लगा जैसे उसमें कोई डंक हो। मानो कीड़ा मुझे चेतावनी दे रहा हो... 'दूर रहो।'

I kept moving around it to see it from different angles. From the side, I noticed how its body was arched and segmented, with those dark, rough-looking patches across its back. From some angles, it looked like a dried, curled part of the leaf. From above, it blended so well that you could easily miss it completely. it's amazing how nature works.

मैं इसे अलग-अलग कोणों से देखने के लिए इसके चारों ओर घूमता रहा। बगल से, मैंने देखा कि इसका शरीर कितना धनुषाकार और खंडित था, और इसकी पीठ पर गहरे, खुरदुरे से धब्बे थे। कुछ कोणों से, यह पत्ते के सूखे, मुड़े हुए हिस्से जैसा लग रहा था। ऊपर से, यह इतनी अच्छी तरह से घुल-मिल गया था कि आप इसे आसानी से पूरी तरह से अनदेखा कर सकते थे। प्रकृति कैसे काम करती है, यह आश्चर्यजनक है।
