Basically use good opsec and don't be stupid online. As a former Apple support engineer, I will say they have always been somewhat open to malware, but it's just harder unless the malware or virus is written specifically to target the macos in some way. The other way is really people's stupidity and lack of common sense online. People will believe anything and click on random links because, well, again, lack of common sense. In most cases, malware and viruses on any machine are like vampires, you have to invite them in to your machine in one way or the other.
