The Inseparable Connection between Music and Culture (Afri- Inleo Initiative 1).
I feel so good to participate in this initiative that was created by the Afri-tunes community to talk about music and culture. I decided to share my post on this topic because it's a very crucial and important topic that I would like to share. To start with, music and culture are intertwined, and this is why they are both essential things to share. Music is something that everyone in the world embraces, and culture, on the other side, is very important because our culture is our heritage, and backing it up with music will go a long way.
Talking about music, in a layman term, it's is an arrangement or quality of sound in a way to create something pleasant to hear. Music helps us communicate our ideas and thoughts through the melodies and the lyrics we create using music. Music can be done in a different ways: either you sing it or you play it using an instrument, and when you do these two things, the feelings it gives are so different because it gives a different meaning to the ear. Music can heal, create joy and also create sad feelings depending on what you do with music but generally, it is adopted by all and sundry.
Culture, on the other hand, is a set of beliefs, values, customs, traditions, and practices that a group or people practice. These cultures are associated with languages, religion, art, food and many more. Cultures are very diverse depending on which aspect you fall into, and that is why when people come together in one way, they are able to practice their culture despite the differences they may have. Our culture distinguishes us from one another because you will know where you belong.
Music and culture are very connected in a way that they interact with one another to complete themselves. They are both connected through;
- Music helps us keep knowledge of the future and continuous way of being.
- Music helps to create emotional connections, from sad to good feelings. Music and culture together will make this happen because culture, when done, brings a lot of connection, even with people of different minds. For example, when we sing a song with a good feeling, we will be able to pass messages across to those that want to listen to it, and if it's the other way around, it will convert its message.
- Music brings people together, just as culture does. Our culture, the food we eat, and the way of life of people are helping because we sometimes see that some people will travel down from different states and countries to celebrate cultural values with each other, and these are part of the things that make life a good place.
- Music is like a language. Different cultures have different ways of speaking this language. They learn it in different ways, teach it in different ways, and use it to say different things.
- Music is a big part of every culture because every culture makes use of music for its events during cultural celebrations.
Most cultures see music as a very special thing that's connected to everything else they do in life, and that is why culture and music have a big role to play in the lives of everyone.
Music is life, and culture is life, and no matter where you get to and where you see that these two things are done, you will always find joy and pleasant feelings there, no matter how small the celebrations can be. It will be done in a good way that people will make people have.
