Musk, who poured at least $130 million into a pro-Trump campaign effort, turned Trump support into yet another full-time job in recent months, funding a swing-state operation to register voters and using his social media platform X to constantly tout his preferred candidate, frequently with misinformation.

Musk's investment in Trump is already paying off, even though Trump doesn't take office until Jan. 20.

Tesla shares soared 15% on Wednesday, adding roughly $15 billion in paper value to Musk's net worth. The electric vehicle maker faces headwinds in the global market from China-based competitors, declining European sales and consumers' growing distaste for his political views.

But with Musk cozying up to Trump, and the president-elect promising to slash the types of regulations that Musk abhors, Wall Street is betting Tesla, on balance, will be a beneficiary.

Adyen's sales growth came off the back of a rise in total processed volume (TPV), which climbed 32% year-over-year to 321 billion euros. In the first half, Adyen posted a 45% jump in TPV, after previously reporting 46% year-over-year growth in the first quarter.

Analysts at Citi said in a research note that "weaker" transaction volume was likely to attract most of the focus from investors Thursday, amid concerns over end-market weakness.

"Either way, the take rate on the processed volume is comfortably higher than expected and, if sustainable, should support sales growth acceleration in 2025/26, while the lower run-rate of hiring should support continued margin uplift," they wrote.

Digital processed volumes grew 29% year-over-year, Adyen said, lower than in the previous quarter due to impacts from a single large-volume customer, Block's Cash App.

Coinbase shares soared 31% on Wednesday, their best day on record, as investors celebrated the company's victorious efforts to get pro-crypto candidates into office. Fairshake, the Coinbase-backed PAC, says that of the 58 candidates it supported, 46 won, with the remaining contests 12 still undecided.

Armstrong, who co-founded Coinbase in 2012 and took it public in 2021, remains the crypto exchange's biggest investor, with ownership of well over 10% of the company's outstanding shares. As of the latest proxy filing, he owned 34.8 million Class A and Class B shares, a stake that jumped by about $2.1 billion in value on Wednesday to almost $9 billion.

"Being anti-crypto is simply bad politics," Armstrong wrote in a post on X, after Ohio Republican Bernie Moreno was declared the winner in his state's Senate race over incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown.

Super Micro had its worst week on the market on record last week after the resignation of its auditor, Ernst & Young, the second accounting firm to bow out in under two years. On a call with analysts, the company said it wouldn't discuss any questions related to Ernst & Young's decision to resign and didn't address corporate governance issues. CEO Charles Liang said Super Micro was actively in the process of hiring a new auditor.

Analysts at Mizuho suspended coverage of the stock on Wednesday "due to a lack of full financial detailed and audited statements." Wedbush analysts, who have the equivalent of a hold rating on the stock, said the report left "more questions than answers."

Canada has ordered the closure of ByteDance’s operations in Canada — specifically the offices of TikTok Technology Canada, Inc. — citing national security risks. Those risks do not extend to the app itself: consumers can still download, use and create content for TikTok, and businesses can still advertise on it. “The decision to use a social media application or platform is a personal choice,” said François-Philippe Champagne, the country’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, in a statement.

The statement did not specify more about the security risks. But the company has been under scrutiny for years over how it handles user data on the platform. Critics allege variously that user data is harvested by China and in ways that cannot be fully audited. TikTok has repeatedly denied that this is the case.

The closure impacts “hundreds” of jobs in Canada, TikTok said in a statement to TechCrunch. It plans to appeal the decision.

What is Pornhub?
Pornhub is a site that offers free access to a vast library of explicit adult movies and clips broken down into categories. It was the 13th most-visited website in the world as of March 1 and the second-most visited adult website.

The site allows professional companies, porn stars and amateurs alike to upload their material, create fan clubs, and charge for premium content. Pornhub is owned by Aylo, recently renamed from Mindgeek, along with several other popular adult sites.

Aside from attacks from anti-porn groups, the company is also under fire for allowing anyone to upload anything, which drove many smaller adult movie companies out of business and also brought complaints about a surge of uploads showing revenge porn, child sexual abuse material and copyrighted movies. In December 2020, after a New York Times expose of non-consensual pornography and sex trafficking on the site, Pornhub deleted over 6 million videos and began allowing uploads only from verified users.

Why are states passing age-verification laws for adult websites?
Child safety advocates and state legislators argue that more needs to be done to keep children safe online and away from adult material. Age verification laws force adult sites to require some form of official ID verifying users are 18 or over before they're allowed to access the site's wares.

The laws levy hefty fees for noncompliance and leave the door open for punishing civil charges.

Free speech advocates and adult entertainment lobbyists say the laws are hurting adults who have the right to access such content and warn that the definition of "adult material" can be weaponized.

"Unfortunately, we’ve already seen how this designation has been weaponized to censor and ban LGBTQ+ literature, reproductive rights resources, sex education, art, and healthcare," said a statement from the Free Speech Coalition. "Sexual expression, online and off, has been and continues to be the canary in the coal mine of free speech."

Pornhub owner to pay victims $1.8m in sex trafficking case

Aylo, the porn website's parent company, agreed to pay $1.8m and compensate victims after a court case.

Pornhub's parent company has agreed to make payments of $1.8m (£1.42m) to the US government to resolve allegations of profiting from sex trafficking.

In a post on its website, SpaceX says it will attempt to re-create these same successes on November 18, including catching the booster at the launch site and an accurate Starship splashdown. The company will also continue to test the heat shield and maneuvers for the upper-stage reentry, “to expand the envelope on ship and booster capabilities and get closer to bringing reuse of the entire system online.” Engineers also introduced a number of upgrades to the system, including more redundancy in the booster propulsion system, updated software controls, and other changes.

SpaceX will also attempt to relight one of the Ship’s six Raptor engines on orbit, a key capability to eventually also reuse the Starship upper stage. Engineers will put this stage through its paces in other ways as well: The company will test new secondary thermal protection materials. In addition, as the company put it, “The ship also will intentionally fly at a higher angle of attack in the final phase of descent, purposefully stressing the limits of flap control to gain data on future landing profiles.”

Starship's Sixth Flight Test

The sixth flight test of Starship is targeted to launch as early as Monday, November 18.

As is the case with all developmental testing, the schedule is dynamic and likely to change, so be sure to check in here and stay tuned to our X account for updates.

Starship’s fifth flight test was a seminal moment in iterating towards a fully and rapidly reusable launch system. On the first attempt, the Super Heavy booster successfully returned to the launch site and was caught by the chopstick arms of the launch and catch tower at Starbase. Starship’s upper stage went on to demonstrate several improvements, resulting in a controlled entry and high accuracy splashdown at the targeted area in the Indian Ocean.

The next Starship flight test aims to expand the envelope on ship and booster capabilities and get closer to bringing reuse of the entire system online. Objectives include the booster once again returning to the launch site for catch, reigniting a ship Raptor engine while in space, and testing a suite of heatshield experiments and maneuvering changes for ship reentry and descent over the Indian Ocean.

The success of the first catch attempt demonstrated the design feasibility while providing valuable data to continue improving hardware and software performance. Hardware upgrades for this flight add additional redundancy to booster propulsion systems, increase structural strength at key areas, and shorten the timeline to offload propellants from the booster following a successful catch. Mission designers also updated software controls and commit criteria for the booster’s launch and return.

Analogous to the fifth flight test, distinct vehicle and pad criteria must be met prior to a return and catch of the Super Heavy booster, which will require healthy systems on the booster and tower and a final manual command from the mission’s Flight Director. If this command is not sent prior to the completion of the boostback burn, or if automated health checks show unacceptable conditions with Super Heavy or the tower, the booster will default to a trajectory that takes it to a landing burn and soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico. We accept no compromises when it comes to ensuring the safety of the public and our team, and the return will only take place if conditions are right.

The returning booster will slow down from supersonic speeds, resulting in audible sonic booms in the area around the landing zone. Generally, the only impact to those in the surrounding area of a sonic boom is the brief thunder-like noise with variables like weather and distance from the return site determining the magnitude experienced by observers.

Starship’s upper stage will fly the same suborbital trajectory as the previous flight test, with splashdown targeted in the Indian Ocean. An additional objective for this flight will be attempting an in-space burn using a single Raptor engine, further demonstrating the capabilities required to conduct a ship deorbit burn prior to orbital missions.

Several thermal protection experiments and operational changes will test the limits of Starship’s capabilities and generate flight data to inform plans for ship catch and reuse. The flight test will assess new secondary thermal protection materials and will have entire sections of heat shield tiles removed on either side of the ship in locations being studied for catch-enabling hardware on future vehicles. The ship also will intentionally fly at a higher angle of attack in the final phase of descent, purposefully stressing the limits of flap control to gain data on future landing profiles. Finally, adjusting the flight’s launch window to the late afternoon at Starbase will enable the ship to reenter over the Indian Ocean in daylight, providing better conditions for visual observations.

Future ships, starting with the vehicle planned for seventh flight test, will fly with significant upgrades including redesigned forward flaps, larger propellant tanks, and the latest generation tiles and secondary thermal protection layers as we continue to iterate towards a fully reusable heat shield. Learnings from this and subsequent flight tests will continue to make the entire Starship system more reliable as we close in on full and rapid reusability.

The move comes after iRobot slashed roughly 350 jobs — about 31% of its workforce — earlier this year. Those cuts were made after plans for an Amazon acquisition fell through. Amazon planned to acquire iRobot for $1.7 billion, but the companies mutually terminated the agreement, noting that they didn’t see a path to regulatory approval in the European Union. iRobot received a $94 million termination fee from Amazon as a result.

iRobot CEO Gary Cohen addressed the latest cuts during the company’s Q3 2024 earnings call on Wednesday.

“These moves, while challenging, have fundamentally changed the way we work with our partners to efficiently develop and build our robots,” Cohen said. “Our new operating model is able to deliver a significant increase in new product introductions with less than half the internal resources and approximately one-third the cost.”

Since the start of 2024, the company has reduced its global workforce by approximately 50%.

Though consumers can now get in line to try out the new AI features, there is a caveat to be aware of: some of them will require joining a waitlist for access.

Collectively, the AI features and tools coming to the new iPhone 16 and other supported devices are known as Apple Intelligence, which can be cleverly abbreviated as “AI” for short. The large language model-driven technologies promise users a smarter Siri, writing and proofreading assistance across apps, and image generation capabilities, among other things. Third-party developers will also be able to take advantage of Apple Intelligence features in their own apps — something that could ultimately prove to be Apple Intelligence’s most useful offering, if widely adopted.

Tesla Semi Charging Infrastructure Costs Can Undercut Competition By 50%, Says Senior Company Executive

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) can deploy fast charging for its Semi truck at about $500/kW given its experience in developing and deploying charging infrastructure, company executive Dan Priestly said on Saturday while acknowledging the relevance of charging infrastructure to boost demand for the upcoming vehicle.

What Happened: “By leveraging the in-house built hardware common with Tesla Charging and experience from deploying >60k DC posts, we can often deploy fast charging for Semi at ~$500/kW (fully landed cost to customer). Not uncommon for competing installations be >2x that,” Priestly said in a post on social media platform X.

“Tesla's vertical integration, economies of scale, and developed construction techniques enable this [sic] savings and help make Semi even more compelling,” he added.

Semi Production Timeline: Tesla unveiled the Semi in 2017 and though production was initially slated to start in 2019, the vehicle is still in the pilot production phase.

During Tesla’s third-quarter earnings call last week, the company said it is preparing its Semi factory in Nevada where production is expected to start by the end of 2025.

Tesla executive Lars Moravy then explained that it is on track to start pilot builds in the second half of 2025 with production starting in the first half of 2026. Production will be ramped through the year, he added.

Demand Expectations: “Semi growth will largely depend on our customers’ adoption of the product,” Moravy said, with Tesla CEO Elon Musk adding that he doesn’t expect demand to be limited.

“Fundamentally, if you’ve got a semi where the fully considered cost per mile or per ton of transport, is better than, say, diesel truck, any company that doesn’t adopt an electric semi will lose.
