Spending The Weekend In The Mountain Again
As I mentioned to you last week, I visited my friend's house in the mountains. However, that visit was cut short due to some matters that required my attention back in the city. Despite this, I received another invitation to visit again, and I gladly accepted. This time, I left on Friday and returned on Sunday night. This extended stay provided me with ample time to explore the village and truly appreciate its beauty.
The village, situated at an altitude of 1500 meters in the Pierian mountains, is not inhabitable during the winter months. Remarkably, it stands as the second-highest village in the region. Throughout the summer, it becomes home to both the elderly residents and their descendants. These families had to flee during the Second World War when the Nazi occupation resulted in the complete destruction of the village. The rugged and difficult-to-access terrain, coupled with numerous hiding spots, made the village a refuge for the resistance. Despite its lofty elevation, the village holds a rich history that reflects its significant role during those tumultuous times.
On the first day of my visit, the weather was fantastic. Despite the high altitude, the temperature was surprisingly high, and the sun was scorching. Our first stop was at the village's old school, which stands as one of the oldest buildings, dating back to 1800. Currently, it has been transformed into a museum. Inside, one can find a collection of old photographs showcasing the village and its residents, as well as the tools that were once utilized by the villagers for activities such as tree cutting, cooking, and sewing.
I saw a lot of instruments that i never even heard of but i also saw the progenitors of i lot i know that are different now.
The next day the weather started really good and in the central square three old ladies were live cooking 3 local traditional foods for visitors and youngsters to learn .
Later the weather started getting a bit bad rain was eminent and it happened the good thing is that it did not rain for long so we went out for a walk in the after rain village and it was a really beautiful thing to watch.
And that is a photo somewhere in woods in the way back to reality
I had to google where those mountains were! Looks like a lovely spot. I guess it's been hot there this summer - is it cooler in the mountains? The exhibit looks interesting, especially with the old tools.
In my city we are now at 33 degrees in the mountain 25 degrees
