Received our Solana Seeker today - Check It Out

Hello SPIers, Good news! After preordering the Solana Seeker around 18 months ago, its finally arrived. Let's take a look and see what we got.

Here's what arrived for me this morning. We preordered 18 months ago for the price of $450, and it costs $500 now, so we saved $50. Around 6-7 weeks ago, I received an email asking to pay for import taxes, which came to around $90, and then I added on the Phone case and Screen protector for $25 because it's not like I'll beable to buy one from Amazon, so the total cost was around $570 all in.

I opened everything up and we received

The specs for the phone are

After turning the phone on, I went through its setup, which was a standard Android setup. I created a new Google account for the Android login not wanting to use my own. Feel free to email [email protected]. Because this is a phone belonging to SPI, I have set up everything for the least amount of "data sharing", and I dont think I'll ever add a SIM card to it either. At the end of the setup process, I had to create seed words for my SOL wallet.

After setup was complete, I played with it for a while. Its basically like web 2 meets web 3. You have all the normal Android stuff, tons of Google's owned apps and its works like an Android, but then you have the web 3 wallet and dapp store.

The dapp store is much like the Play Store except all the apps on built on Solana and it has alot of stuff. Obviously lots of exchanges, wallets, NFTs and defi, but also a bunch of games and normal everyday non-crypto related apps. I've not tried any because I dont plan to use the phone, but it's great to see that the dapp store is active and has lots to offer.

The last thing I did with the phone was to set up the seed vault wallet. On opening the wallet, I was prompted to claim the "seeker genesis token", which will give us access to special rewards (no idea what, probally airdrops). After that, I was prompted to create a seeker ID username to attach our wallet and Seeker token to. I think the idea is to create a word username and use it as an address, much like HIVE usernames.

It took a while to be able to get a username that was available, but finally got it all set up, and our SOL username is spinvestonsol.skr

I thought there would be airdrops waiting for us, but sadly not, and I have not had the time to look into that yet. Last time I checked, there were around $300 worth of airdrops for the Seeker phone, but I can see where are how to claim them within the wallet itself.

Why did we buy this phone?

We had a bunch of USDT at the time and felt like taking a gamble. There was the thought of just holding it unopened, but too late now. Maybe after we claim all the airdrops, we can raffle it off are something.

It's not a bad phone and feels really nice in the hand, like it's been made from good materials. It feels solid, and the camera is decent. The only thing I dont like is the thumb scanner on the side of the phone instead of a finger on the screen. Feels kinda old school and retro.

Anyway, I thought I would share that as not much else is happening. I will keep you all updated on any airdrops we receive.
