Do the Stars Define Us? A Critical Look at Zodiac Signs and Horoscopes....

(Edited)

Astrology and zodiac signs have been topics of belief, debate and interest for centuries now. I personally first heard about them twelve years ago when I was in secondary school. Back then, I often heard people say things like, "You are Cancer, Leo, Taurus or Gemini" just to mention but a few.

At first, I was confused especially with the first one, "You're Cancer" because I was taking it literally and associated it with the dreaded illness.
Cancer, as we know, is one of the most feared diseases among human beings due to its severity and the lack of effective treatment when diagnosed at later stages. So I wondered; why would anyone willingly say they are Cancer?

I eventually opened up to a friend who explained that it meant entirely different thing and collectively they were called zodiac signs... That was when I took out time to read about zodiac signs and gain a bit knowledge about what they actually entail.

Belief in Astrology and Zodiac Signs

By way of definition, astrology is the study of the positions and movements of celestial bodies like planets and stars and their supposed influence on human lives.
Some persons not just the astrologists have strong beliefs in this whereas others might just dismiss the topic on grounds of it being superstitions with no basis, hence, the belief is just based on personal perspective .

The three wise men according to the Holy Bible were said to have located the birthplace of Jesus Christ was using the interpretation they got from following the stars which further sediments for a fact that there are people who can actually read these celestial bodies

These zodiac signs are believed to be a reflection of individual's personality traits, their strengths and weaknesses depending on their birth dates. Astrologers therefore serve as guides, explaining reasons why we behave the way we do, our relationships and challenges even in the uncertainty we live in.
This gives us an insight of what our life might hold, hence giving us a way to reflect on ourselves as we journey through life.

On My Personal Opinion About Believing This:

While I respect the perspective of those who believe in astrology, I personally approach this topic with skepticism.
For example, someone born under the sign of Leo might identify with traits like leadership, charisma, and confidence.
Now I ask, what's the empirical evidence supporting this? Does it mean everyone born under the Leo zodiac will automatically have a leadership ability? Or are there some criteria even as a Leo you must possess before fully manifesting those abilities?

I was once going through a horoscope and found this response,
“You may face challenges today but will find strength to overcome them,”
This isn't specific at all and of course this coukd apply to anyone regardless of the zodiac sign you carry because facing challenges and striving to overcome them is part of human experience and no astrology is needed to recognise that perseverance leads to strength.
Constellations no longer tally with their assigned zodiac dates because it's been long with the earth's drift yet many persons continue to use this flawed system.

In the end, it all boils down to personal perspective. While it lacks scientific evidence, for those who believe in it, astrology can provide a sense of comfort, guidance and self-awareness. If reading horoscopes helps them explore their identities, desires and challenges, then it's a good framework for personal growth.
However, I personally do not believe in zodiac signs neither do they intrigue me.

I used to believe in those until I realised that they were nothing but layered excuses for poor character and judgement. Hence, not gonna catch me bothered anymore. You're right to be skeptic too.
