Nowhere, epítome de la supervivencia

Después de ver La Sociedad de la Nieve me di cuenta de que amo las historias de supervivencia. En ellas veo reflejada la poderosa esencia humana de la resiliencia y de cómo la mente puede permitirnos tolerar situaciones paupérrimas, de inseguridad, enfermedad, recursos básicos limitados o aislamiento. La mente puede ser nuestra mejor amiga o peor enemiga, y muchas veces nuestra capacidad de salir airosos de una situación sumamente difícil no dependerá únicamente del contexto, sino también de nuestra estabilidad interna, lo que nos decimos, lo que nos prometemos, todo lo que hacemos para salvarnos o salvar a alguien más. Les comparto, a continuación, una breve reseña de Nowhere.

La película nos muestra, al inicio, a Mía y Nico escapando de un régimen autoritario de forma clandestina, la meta que tienen es la de salir del país en un contenedor marítimo. El régimen persigue principalmente a mujeres y niños, para controlar la sobrepoblación humana pues hay una escasez de recursos generalizada. Esta pareja es una de las más interesadas en salir de allí, pues Mía está embarazada. El régimen les quitó a su primera hija y aunque Mía carga fuertemente con la culpa de esto, no permitirán que les arrebaten otra vida, aunque lamentablemente las cartas están echadas y nos enteramos, muy temprano, que es probablemente que sea lo que vaya a pasar.

El primer nudo de la película se da cuando Mía y Nico son separados de forma forzosa, el segundo, cuando asesinan a todas las personas que estaban junto a Mía en el contenedor, y solo ella queda viva. El tercer momento de tensión es el siguiente: una tormenta hace que varios de los contenedores que iban en el barco caigan al mar, a la deriva. Así, Mía se encuentra sola, atrapada, encerrada, en el medio del mar, y prácticamente allí inicia lo más fuerte de la película. He mencionado tres momentos de Nowhere que generan mucho estrés, pero al final, se suman como 8 o 10, así que si quieres ver esta película tendrás que estar preparado para sufrir cada segundo junto a Mía.

Hambre, miedo, culpa, oscuridad, soledad, sed son solo algunas de las experiencias dolorosas que enfrentará esta mujer. En el contenedor se encontrará con algunos recursos: linternas, un cargamento de audífonos, un sandwich y un enlatado, una botella de agua, unos toppers nuevos, una navaja entre otros pocos objetos que la acompañarán durante más de 20 días.

No quiero dar muchos spoilers porque pienso que vale totalmente la pena verla, pero además, porque es una historia que nos conecta con el sufrimiento humano del exilio, pero también, con todo lo que surge de estar en aprietos: creatividad, aguante, lucha, fuerza interna.

Nowhere me recordó, además, la tragedia del naufragio de la familia venezolana en el año 2021, cuando dos niños pequeños sobrevivieron en el medio del mar, gracias a que su madre los amamantó.

Nowhere es una película española que puedes ver en netflix. Haz de tripas corazón y vela, pues no tiene pérdida.

After watching The Snow Society I realized that I love survival stories. In them I see reflected the powerful human essence of resilience and how the mind can allow us to tolerate impoverished situations, insecurity, illness, limited basic resources or isolation. The mind can be our best friend or worst enemy, and many times our ability to get out of an extremely difficult situation will not only depend on the context, but also on our internal stability, what we tell ourselves, what we promise ourselves, everything we do to save ourselves or someone else. I share with you, below, a brief review of Nowhere.

The film shows us, at the beginning, Mia and Nico escaping from an authoritarian regime in a clandestine way, the goal they have is to leave the country in a sea container. The regime persecutes mainly women and children, in order to control the human overpopulation as there is a generalized scarcity of resources. This couple is one of the most interested in leaving, as Mia is pregnant. The regime took their first daughter from them and although Mia bears the guilt of this heavily, they will not allow another life to be taken from them, although unfortunately the cards are stacked and we learn, very early on, that this is probably what is going to happen.

The first knot of the film occurs when Mia and Nico are forcibly separated, the second, when all the people who were next to Mia in the container are murdered, and only she is left alive. The third moment of tension is the following: a storm causes several of the containers that were on the ship to fall into the sea, adrift. Thus, Mia finds herself alone, trapped, locked, in the middle of the sea, and practically there begins the strongest part of the film. I have mentioned three moments of Nowhere that generate a lot of stress, but in the end, they add up to 8 or 10, so if you want to see this movie you will have to be prepared to suffer every second with Mia.

Hunger, fear, guilt, darkness, loneliness, thirst are just some of the painful experiences this woman will face. In the container she will find some resources: flashlights, a shipment of headphones, a sandwich and a canned food, a bottle of water, some new toppers, a razor among a few other objects that will accompany her for more than 20 days.

I don't want to give too many spoilers because I think it is totally worth watching, but also because it is a story that connects us with the human suffering of exile, but also with everything that comes from being in trouble: creativity, endurance, struggle, inner strength.

Nowhere also reminded me of the tragedy of the shipwreck of the Venezuelan family in 2021, when two small children survived in the middle of the sea, thanks to their mother breastfeeding them.

Nowhere is a Spanish movie that you can watch on netflix. Do your best and watch it, because you can't miss it.
