The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt # 47 Telephone booth memories
The immediate thought that came to mind on looking into this wonderful prompt is the long await and the never ending que. Fortunate enough, that was a realistic world where fond memories were given immense importance.
Greetings dear Hiveans and members of the #Silverbloggers community.
One such beautiful memory is the await for the call from my husband, who was miles away from me. He was working abraod and I was in my hometown waiting for the visa, as such we were apart, for a time period of one year. This was in mid 1990's.
Most of the communication was through letter. The time of the call is usually mentioned in it. And I make sure to arrive the telephone booth 30 minutes earlier. We had a lot of things to exchange eachother. It was my father, who accompanied me to the booth. He used to wait outside patiently for me to finish my call. When the que lengthens, I get reminded of my time,through a gesture, from the booth staff.
The await for the talk means a lot ro me. And the call was made weekly once. Expressing something through phone, to my dear ones, meant a lot to me. I usually prepare a short note of important things to be conveyed so that every matters are conveyed in a short span of time.
Each time I pass through our nearby telephone booth, the post box etc. they remind of those golden days. I remember, the waiting in the que and I was not the only one. Like me there were several peoples to hear from their dear ones.
Infact, I have seen incidents such as crying by keeping the phone close to heart, or the long kiss to the other side of the caller etc. The telephone booth was more or less like a healer, either to heal one's pain or bring an immediate laughter in the face of the caller. Too many good moments in less time.
Our today's youth keep carrying a cell phone in their pockets, but are not prepared to hear or talk to their dear ones even for a minute or two.
The beauty of a long distant talk is lost, just because calls can be made in a second or a minute and is winded up in another 2 minutes. Hope we get to see those golden days once again.
