A perfect evening snack with hot tea - VADA made of Split Bengal Gram, otherwise called as Broken Chana Dal

Greetings 🙏 A healthy day to all Happy Hiveans. When it comes to food, too many choice comes to our mind and if its a healthier version, we enjoy the most.

Here, I come with a recipe called vada made out of split Bengal gram, which is readily available in market. An evening snack enjoyed with tea from kids to older generation. It gets along well with a hot cup of tea.

For me this ia a nostalgic recipe, probaby an evening snack, for me and my siblings, while reaching home from school.

And here is the recipe

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

  • Split Bengal Gram or Chana Dal - 1 cup
  • Medium sized onion - 1
  • Salt - as required
  • Ginger - 1 inch in length
  • Green Chilli - as per spice ( 1 or 2)
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Oil for frying

**PREPARATION METHOD **

STEP - 1

Wash and soak the Chana Dal for 3 hours in water. After 3 hrs. drain the water completely, and by adding the required salt, coarsely grind them in a mixer. The grinded item should be coarse, meaning, few dal will be seen ungrounded.

STEP - 2

Finely chop the onion, green chilli, ginger and mix all this well with the coarsely grinded Chana Dal along with curry leaves and coriander leaves. Though these leaves are optional, they will taste good when fried.

STEP - 3

Now keep a kadai (wok) in stove and pour oil into it for deep frying. Let it heat.

Keep the flame in medium, before you start frying the vada so that it shouldn't burn.

Make a small ball and flatten it at the palm of your hand and deep fry in hot oil until medium golden brown. Keep turning on either side until it gets cooked.

Hot chana dal fry is ready to be served. Never forget to enjoy it wholly, with gradual intake of hot tea. You will definitely enjoy this recipe.

Thankyou for being with me through out this cooking journey. All Photos are mine, which were captured while cooking in my kitchen.

Happy Week Ahead
