Hi Sammy, to better explain grinding, I've included some images in the post that attempt to better explain this particular process.
Ultimately, grinding is used to:

  • obtain very low roughness (Ra < 0.8 μm, down to 0.05 μm);
  • respect micrometric tolerances;
  • improve roundness, flatness, and cylindricity;
  • work hardened or very hard materials.
    In short, it's a finishing process, following turning or milling, to achieve even higher precision.
