The Real Natural Resource — You!
“The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive” -Albert Einstein. What about the value of a woman? (Lol, please google it).
I’ve seen people drool over the wealth and riches of celebrities and other well-established individuals in the industry. Always daydreaming and wishing to be like them, but not taking closer scrutiny at how their wealth is made. Like I always tell everyone around me, the first thing to do after having a dream is to wake up and take steps towards achieving it! The real achievement of these wealthy and celebrated people is not in how much wealth was handed over to them or, as suspected by many, a dubious means well executed and covered up, no! It is a function of how much they could invest in themselves! We’ll take a cue from two successful individuals. One from the past and another contemporary one.
Albert Einstein had several challenges right from childhood but emerged as the father of physics. Why? “By the age of twelve, he had TAUGHT HIMSELF geometry…”, then later, “HE DECIDED to study math and physics so he could become a teacher.” ( his story ). In the same vein, reading through Elon Musk’s story on this site showed that he had been a bookworm right from a tender age. These life examples can only communicate one thing to everyone interested in getting out of a situation or another, you are the key to your success or breakthrough. How? By reading your way out of your current situation!
I’ve once heard this popular quote, almost a cliché, “Wisdom is the application of your understanding about what you know!” (maybe not the exact words, but something like this). How do you 'know' when you don’t read about a thing or how do you understand talk less of applying the knowledge?
In Nigeria, petroleum is one of our most valuable resources, in France, we talk about coal and the like. This differs in other countries, but I can confidently tell you that the most valuable resource anywhere in the world remains human! You and me! For every single problem, there is a solution within, but the light of knowledge has to be shed on your situation. I’m not really coming as a motivational speaker (smiles), just to make you realize there's a way out of your challenges.
As a voiceover artist, I have always known I have a good voice, but I was only getting the accolades and wows! I couldn’t monetize it! I don’t need to improve my voice, I only need the right approach to getting related gigs. After a while, I was privileged to jump on a book titled “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale, where I learned about creating the future you desire in the present, among other life-changing lessons. Today, I have over 70 recordings in my portfolio. Of course, I am not there, but I am not ‘back there.’ I still have several YouTube videos and books on my to-do list, trust me, things are getting better! When you invest in yourself, there is a tendency of that ‘where I was’ versus ‘where I am’ progress.
After realizing what you carry as a special being and how to unlock your potential, I implore you to start working on dealing with your challenges by identifying books and media clips peculiar to your situation. Work out a plan to digest the knowledge and apply it on a daily basis, you’ll come out with a positive result!
Thank you for sharing. Human capital is one huge resource that a nation can effectively use to strengthen itself.
You're right, many people are desirous of the wealthy and show little preparedness to undergo the process that leads to such life
Thank you for your comment. To back your view, people find it easy to suffer the results of doing nothing than taking the time to invest in their dreams.. time will pass anyways. Really appreciate your comment brother.
