How I Moved From Buying Physical Discs to Digital Games

Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing great.
In this post, I will be talking about how and why I moved from buying physical disc games to digital games.
There was a time when buying a game felt like an event you would go to the shop, look at the shelves, check the back of the box, & finally hold that disc in your hands like it was something special. I still remember that feeling.
For years I was a physical disc person and digital games did not feel real to me then. But slowly, without even realizing it, I changed. So now most of my games are digital, and I did not plan this change, it happened. I moved from physical discs to digital games. Here is what changed.
Buying physical games used to feel satisfying, you weren't just buying software, you were buying something you could actually touch.
So physical discs gave a sense of freedom because if you didn't like a game you could sell it or exchange it or lend it to a friend. There was value in that plastic disc.
Digital games once felt risky because the store might shut down. What if my account gets banned? Those thoughts made digital purchases feel unsafe.
The first crack in my “physical only” mindset came from convenience. I remember being tired, wanting to play a game late at night, but the shop was closed. Then I saw the same game on the digital store, just one click away. No travel, no waiting.
Digital games removed friction. And humans love less friction, even if it costs more.
Good Discounts
Another big reason was digital sales. Seasonal sales, flash discounts, bundles, suddenly games were cheaper online than physical copies. I told myself, “Okay, just this one digital purchase.” That “one” slowly became many.
Digital stores made spending easier. Too easy, actually. No cash leaving your hand, no physical reminder. Just a button and boom, game added to library. I didn’t notice at first, but my spending behavior changed.
One thing I really noticed after switching to digital, spending money feels less painful. When you hand over cash or a disc, your brain feels the cost. With digital purchases, it’s just numbers on a screen. This made buying easier.
I had to consciously control myself. Wishlist games instead of buying instantly. Wait for reviews. Set personal rules. Digital gaming requires more self-control than physical gaming ever did.
Physical discs need space. Shelves, drawers, boxes. Over time, this became annoying. Cases break. Covers get damaged. Discs get scratched. And moving houses with a big game collection is not fun at all.
Digital games solved that problem completely. No clutter, no mess, no physical storage. Everything lives quietly in your library.
Conclusion
Despite all the downsides, I mostly buy digital now. Not because it’s better, but because life changed. Less time, more convenience needed, frequent sales, no physical space. Digital fits modern life better.
That said, for special games, collector editions, or games I truly love, I still prefer physical when possible.
Well, I guess this is it for this post. Please do give your reviews in the comments section below. I would really appreciate it :)
I'll be back with another one soon. So do follow me if you want to stay updated. Till then, Stay Happy and Stay Hydrated.

yo @rookie2001 epic journey bro! 🔥
From hunting physical discs to going full digital — that's the modern gamer evolution right there. I feel you on the convenience: no more shelf space wars, instant access, sales every week, and cloud saves so you never lose progress.
But I gotta ask —do you ever miss the feeling of cracking open a fresh case, reading the manual, or having that physical collection to show off?Or is digital 100% win for you now?
Also, what's your go-to platform these days — Steam, Epic, GOG,console store?
