Weekend Engagement - Life Is A Marathon

Do you think self-care is selfish or not?

My first thought was how could self-care be selfish?

For me, self-care is extremely important because if you don't care about yourself, who is going to care for you? Life is meant to be enjoyed - as much as there are challenges or ups and downs in life - we have to find time and pursue our own happiness, chase our own goals, and live a life without regrets.

And if we take good care of ourselves, we can then take care of people around us. With a healthy body and mind, we then have the ability to help those in need, spend valuable time with our loved ones, and spread positivity to others.

For me, being an introvert, self-care is really a lot of me time to engage activities that I enjoy. Recently, in an attempt to live a healthier lifestyle, I have started swimming leisurely and courtesy of my friend's gym membership, I had the opportunity to visit this pool with an awesome view!

Of course, desserts like these are sinful treats for someone like me who has a sweet tooth. Even though it's unhealthy (yes I know), a good slice of cake never fails to lift my mood and I find it quite therapeutic to sit at a cafe, and just listen to the music and people-watch, and idle my weekend away. It's like a brain detox after a tiring week at work.

Summing up, life is a marathon. The average human being has about 70-80 years to live and in order to last the marathon, I feel that self-care is something that can make a difference along the way. It's like having a good pair of running shoes - you might not feel the difference when you run the first few kilometres but when you are hitting the 10km or 20km mark in the marathon, you would feel the difference and be thankful that you invested in that good pair of running shoes. So it's definitely not selfish. :)
