My Japan Trip - Feeding Deer And More At Nara!

Hello there! It's my 12th post in the new World Map Pin community! Trying to do the tag as well! If you haven't read about them, please take a look at this link.

As background, I have done a few overseas trips last year, as some of my friends here would know, and I have been wanting to share some of the interesting places that I have visited. However, life has been busy and I have been procrastinating penning these entries and recently, I revisited this target of mine and finally broke the inertia!

One of my memorable trips in 2023 was to Tokyo, Japan, and during that trip, I did quite a few day trips to nearby cities and towns. This included trips to Karuizawa, Atami, Nikko, Kamakura, of course, Tokyo itself.

In 2024, which was earlier this year, I was back at Japan once more. This time, it was to Osaka, Japan. After a trip to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Kyoto, we next visited Nara, which was a place well known for its wild deer and huge buddha statue!

As always, to everyone who is reading, thanks for all the positive comments of my previous post! It really amazed me how the Hive community and Worldmappin community were so encouraging with my travel sharings. And it meant a lot to me - whether it's in the form of comments, reblogs, or upvotes. Thanks for all the engagement and appreciation!

Nara wasn't too far from Osaka or Kyoto and we were looking forward to seeing and feeding the wild deer! Before we reached the deer park, we were advised by the guide that these are wild animals so we still had to be careful, be it with our belongings or just ourselves. But when we reached, we were so overwhelmed by the cute-ness of these little creatures! Little did we realise they can be quite naughty! Lol!

Here's some photos of the deer roaming the Nara park! Aren't they adorable?

As much as there were many deer, there were huge crowds as well, including students probably on study trips.

As it was relatively warm, most of the deer were resting in the shade and only a few were roaming about. Since we were there, we got the deer food so that we can experience feeding the deer.

And this was what happened when they smell food! They got pretty aggressive and it was hard to feed when so many of them were trying to bite the biscuits off our hands.

I even witnessed an incident where the kids freaked out and screamed because the deer (probably sensing smaller humans) were chasing them. My friend got a soft bite on his thigh as they got impatient while waiting for their turn to be fed. Fortunately, his pants were thick enough and there was nothing serious. As for me, they only nibbled on the T-shirt and it was all soaked with their saliva. Eeks! So a word of caution, do be careful while having fun! But overall it's still an interesting experience.

Just beside Nara Park, there's an Buddhist temple called Todaiji which is worth visiting as well. The grounds leading up to the temple were pretty majestic.

This is the big Buddha statue which visitors are looking out for. Within the temple, there were other statues and sculptures as well. As I am not very religious, it was more of a sightseeing experience for me.

And that's it for the short visit to Nara! Leaving the temple grounds, I managed to capture the wonderful landscape while standing from the temple entrance. Overall, it was more of a fun trip because we got see the deer at Nara Park and it's something that I don't usually get to experience back in my city, so it's an eye opener.
