Coronavirus News, Analysis, and Opinion:
Covid Death Toll Was 16% Higher Than Official Tally
The Covid death toll in the US is likely at least 16% higher than the official tally, according to a new study, and researchers believe the cause of the undercounting goes beyond overloaded health systems to a lack of awareness of Covid and low levels of testing.

Trump’s Campaign Is Bankruptcy Protection
The obvious cure for Trump’s business woes is to recapture the White House. Unlike any federal convictions that Trump might suffer between now and election day, it is clear he would have no power as president to pardon himself for his spate of civil losses. But another term would give him great scope to replenish the family coffers in other ways. The world is mostly focused on whether Trump would pull America out of NATO, abandon Ukraine and start new trade wars. Trump’s domestic opponents, meanwhile, are preoccupied with the threat he would pose to America’s constitutional order.
All of these spectres are real; most are highly probable. What is guaranteed, however, is that Trump would go for the money.

Arizona Refuses to Send Murder Suspect to New York
Prosecutors in Arizona refused to extradite a 26-year-old man accused of killing a woman at a New York City hotel this month because of what they said was the Manhattan district attorney’s lenient treatment of violent criminals.
Rachel Mitchell, the Maricopa County attorney in Arizona, said at a news conference on Wednesday that her team would not work with Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney who is expected to charge the man, Raad Almansoori, in the killing of 38-year-old Denisse Oleas-Arancibia.

Freedom Caucus Raises Risk of Government Shutdown
The House Freedom Caucus is officially pushing a one-year spending stopgap that could trigger a government shutdown if embraced by Speaker Mike Johnson.
Johnson can risk a shutdown by siding with the Freedom Caucus on the lengthy spending stopgap. Or he can risk a challenge to his speakership by working with Democrats to pass a new budget that avoids the across-the-board cuts.

I'm enjoying @edith-4angelseu's work. She reblogs mostly only the contests she will enter. Joined a few months ago.
Thank you so much @owasco for the recommendation, I am really glad you did my dear friend.
