Hunting Diary: A great day through Hirshfelden Forest | theHunter: Call of the Wild

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

Hirshfelden is one of the best-looking reserves in the game. It features many animal species to hunt ranging from small Red foxes and Roe Deer to big European Bison.

It was a beautiful morning and I set out to explore the southwestern part of the reserve. This is still an unexplored area for me. I took a bow, rifle and my shotgun with me. I was well equipped to hunt mid-large sized animals.

Strolling through a large grassy patch, I heard a warning call from Red Fox. It was travelling towards me so I laid down in the grass and waited for it to come closer. I used my 7 mm Empress Magnum and took the shot.

Red Fox is only a class 2 animal and my weapon had a bullet with class 4 and above. So, I didn't get all the harvest checks and this made me lose the Silver badge.

After some time when I was walking through the forest, I found a pair of Wild Boar roaming around. I followed them until I got a clear shot. As always I try to aim at the lungs. I got liver, left lung and stomach on that shot and the Boar dropped dead instantly. This gave me a silver trophy medal.

I had an active mission from Dr Bhandari, who was looking after the local Bison population. But an unknown disease is spreading among them and we have to eliminate 2 sick male Bison so they cannot spread the disease anymore.

I saw a Bison and it got spooked and fled the scene. I followed and we reached a big Lake. The Bison was now calm and stayed there so I snuck closer and took my shot. This was a relatively small female and it only gave me a silver badge.

The XP I received from this harvest levelled me up. I got an extra skill point this time. You get 1 skill or perk point when you level up. And there are multiple skills which give you buffs and make your life as a hunter much easier.

There are two major skill sets, Stalker and Ambusher. I went into the Stalker tab and spent my skill point on the "Soft Feet" Skill upgrade. This has two levels and the first level reduces the noise generated when moving through grass and leaves. This is going to be a big upgrade as most of the animals are very sensitive to hearing and you can't run else they will hear you from far and get spooked and flee even before you can see them.

I saw the effectiveness of this skill upgrade when I got much closer to a Roe Deer, which was quenching its thirds on the shore of a lake. Roe Deer is one of the smallest deer species in this reserve and my Rifle would be a bit overkill and I can't get all the harvest check with that. All appropriate weapons have to be used to get the weapons harvest check else you will lose on a bit of reward and skill gained.

I wanted to improve my Bow score as well. So, I took out my Bow and carefully made the shot. It was a perfect lung shot and it dropped dead instantly. This bow has a lot of power, the only drawback is you have to get super close to the animal. Anyways, this was a small female weighing about 22 Kg only and didn't give me any trophy which was unfortunate.

Suddenly the weather changed and it became foggy and the visibility dropped drastically. It started raining as well which is not bad for stalking the prey as my noise is reduced when I walk through the damp forest. I found two Male Bisons standing calmly. One of them started to behave weirdly and then it struck me. This must be a sick Bison and I have to hunt it to complete Bhandari's mission.

I aimed at the lung and this time I was going for a heart shot so I don't have to track the wounded animal. Luckily, I got a rare heart shot and no animal can take a heart shot, they drop dead instantly. The other Bison got spooked and tried to run away but I got a lung shot on him as well. And I harvest both of them.

This completed my side mission given by Bhandari. I enjoyed this session as I took down a Red Fox then a Wild Boar and a Roe deer and finally two massive European Bisons. A bright and sunny morning ended up in a foggy and cloudy evening.

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...
