When I Thought I Knew Better

Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome ๐Ÿค—

In my thirty-plus years on earth, I have learned a lot of lessons, and I would say that all of them are very important. I do not have any that are more important than the other, but for the sake of this prompt, I am going to say a thought I was brooding about last week.

Growing up as a teenager, I used to think most grown-ups, my parents included, were most times not nice, unnecessarily strict, and annoying. I used to feel like they were not understanding, and that's because they were old.

Funny enough I used see those aunties and uncles that were in their late twenties upward as old folks. I had a lot of times I wanted to do something not necessarily bad, but my parents wouldn't agree, and there was no need to try to persuade them to understand because it was going to be a wasted effort. And I would tell myself I can't wait to be an adult so that I would have freedom and live my life the way I want to.

There was this time after my secondary, my set organized our graduation party in a big hotel and my dad didn't permit me to attend, and I was like it's just a graduation party and other parents are allowing their kids to attend why would my case be different. Thinking back now am glad I didn't attend because I remember eavesdropping on a conversation of some of my mates that were the organizers on why they choose that hotel and how they plan on meeting big guys and what so not.

That's by the way; I am in my early thirties and a parent; I have come to appreciate some of the things my parents and other authority figures did to me that I thought were wicked, strict, or annoying. I realized that they did what they did out of love, concern, and a desire to make sure I am safe.

Many times we judge people without fully understanding the bigger picture or reasons behind what they do.

Motherhood has taught me a lot and has made me appreciate the sacrifices people make for me. I have also learned to listen to the wisdom of elders and those that are ahead of me.

I have learned to be understanding and empathetic, even when things don't seem to make sense to me. I have learned to see things from other people's perspectives rather than judging and complaining about them from my own limited understanding.

THANK YOU FOR READING TO THE END ๐Ÿค—

I guess we were young and dumb ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
That's how stages of life are.

Our minds and brains are soft and young unable to calculate some things well.
So, let's not blame ourselves much.

Nice write dear

This is so true ma. I also used to feel that adults were wicked but now with a child of my own, I am more wickeder in her mind because I want her to be safe.
