My First Phone - Joy Unspeakable

This prompt just brought back some beautiful memories I had forgotten about 😁

What was your first Phone?

How can I forget my first phone? It was on a Thursday evening. I had just returned from boarding school. I was in my room watching a movie when my dad called and handed me a brand new Samsung D600 with an MTN SIM card that he had already recharged. This was in 2006. I will never forget how excited and surprised I was because I was just in my first year of senior secondary school (SS1).

Unlike now, when most kids use expensive phones and gadgets, as of then, most Nigerian parents believed that you could only have access to a phone after secondary school, while some waited until you gained admission to the university. So you can imagine how surprised I was.

Operating the phone wasn't difficult for me because, before then, whenever my dad got any new electronics or gadgets, I was usually the first person he would teach how to operate them. So it was very easy for me to navigate around the phone.

I remember being the envy of my friends and some of my cousins, who were my seniors. Most of them didn't have a phone, while those that had phones were using a small phone then. I can vividly remember one of those days when one of my uncles visited us and saw the phone I was using; it was bigger than his, and he told my dad to cease the phone from me and keep it until I gained admission to the university because I was too small to be using a phone at that age.

My phone became my new best friend, as I was always listening to music on it. I was always on Waptrick, downloading new and latest songs.

Oh, what a beautiful memory!
