So you have to visit the squares on the map? Gamification is cool I think, I now use MyWhoosh for indoor cycling, participating in events and being able to buy ingame items with the earnings is a cool addition.

Yes, that's the idea. And you can get either a square of squares (über) or squares that connect to four others (yard). Quite fun.
